I'll vouch for Maurice, for what it's worth.I have covered him for The Free Press the last two years. I've watched him break multiple tackles and then run away from secondaries on more than one occasion. Good speed, great awareness on the field, and he's not afraid to hit or get hit. He also plays basketball for North Lenoir, and he has a pretty impressive vertical. Not to mention he's a genuinely good kid.I'm excited that he signed for us.

Name: Maurice MorganHometown: LaGrange, North CarolinaSchool: North Lenior High SchoolPosition: AthleteVitals: 6'2/215 LaGrange (NC) North Lenoir athlete Maurice Morgan committed to NC State on Tuesday after securing an offer from the Wolfpack over the weekend. He chose NC State over an offer from East Carolina and was receiving interest from North Carolina. Morgan had a solid junior season playing tailback, wide receiver, safety and special teams for North Lenior. He rushed for nearly 700 yards in limited reps, but athletically he projects as a wide receiver or safety on the next level. NC State is recruiting Morgan as an athlete."He's an outstanding athlete," said North Lenoir Head Coach Calvin Sutton. "I've been told he could be the sleeper in the state. We're talking about a young man who is 6-foot-2, 213 pounds and consistently runs a 4.4. "He has all the physical tools you're looking for, and he is also a great kid."PackPride has a highlight video available also:http://northcarolinastate.scout.com/2/991451.html

I think we have a good shot at LB Jeffrey Lark. He hopes to make a decision by the end of August since he wants to enroll early. Reports say he was impressed with his visit. He would either be a big safety or an outside linebacker on the college level.

PackPride mod said that unless something changes, he's going to GT.

Seems like he's a good fit for Tech's offense, but I just don't understand how any QB who has aspirations to play in the NFL would choose Tech. They might pass it a little more once they have an actually QB who can throw the ball, but it's still going to be a run oriented offense and you won't be featured or get familiar with an NFL type offense. Add that to the fact that you are going to take an absolute beating running that triple option during you career there. If I were recruiting against Tech, I would slam that into the recruits' heads. I would pitch the same shit to top WR's going there as well. You want to hone your downfield blocking skills?? Go to Georgia Tech.

making his decision @ 4.i thought i'd heard it was down to wake, gt, and us. this article says gt, unc and us:http://www.highschoolot.com/content/blogpost/8160341/

must be a typo. I didn't think UNC was ever a factor. Wake has always been there. Also, I liked this:

This isn't really a big deal at all.
8/19/2010 2:52:20 PM
eh, it's a big deal if we get him, especially with the way recruiting has been going so far this year.but if we don't get him, i agree, not a big deal.
8/19/2010 2:55:24 PM
^ Which is why its not a big deal
8/19/2010 2:56:26 PM
I feel it's sort of a big deal considering the way our recruiting has gone so far this summer. It wouldn't be that big of a deal if we were like our ACC rivals and already had 10-15 recruits in the bag. At this point, the barrel is drying up and I'm desperate to snag any decent local prospects we can get.
8/19/2010 3:22:44 PM
Honestly I feel like whoever the new coach is next year will be starting completely from scratch, so this year's class (which will be very small) isn't really catching my attention like usual.

We recently offered QB Brian Taylor. He grew up an NC State fan and will probably commit pretty soon.http://www.highschoolot.com/content/blogpost/8164459/
8/19/2010 11:51:43 PM
Since that story was posted last night, it sounds like the coaching staff heard about Vad and immediately jumped on Brian. Anyone local know the competition level of the Greater Neuse River Conference?
8/20/2010 9:10:04 AM
since we supposedly weren't recruiting lee as a qb, why are we just offering taylor?
8/20/2010 9:28:47 AM
^^I think it was more like we already liked this kid, but with the small chance that we still get Vad Lee, we didn't want to scare off Vad by jumping the gun and offering another QB too early.^I think we were giving Lee the opportunity to play QB here. If we weren't, then he wouldn't have seriously considering us.

except Knight is now being classified as a FB - ranked 5th in the class by Rivals.A target lost to another school is still a loss. We offered a scholly, so we probably needed him. The question is: how strong is the need at the RB position?
8/20/2010 6:58:07 PM
Underwood RJrBarnes RSoWashington SoCreecy FrGreene FrTony Knight -incomingLogan Winkles -FrTaylor Gentry -JrFive Rb's, three FB's, and nobody is graduating.

I feel like FB and RB are nearly synonymous these days. I guess traditionally FBs are bigger and expected to block more often?
8/20/2010 10:40:44 PM
that was fast. brian taylor commits.
8/20/2010 11:13:57 PM
I'm sorry, tl. I didn't realize you were ON the coaching staff. Since you know that we shut down RB recruiting, please, inform us on the staff's direction at the other positions for the remainder of the season.I was simply trying to point out to everyone that we've lost several recruiting battles lately and that it was starting to get ridiculous. I understand that it's not as bad that Crockett didn't pick us since we already have a ballrunner in Knight. Shit, I've never even heard of Crockett. He just happened to be on the list of recent commits.
8/21/2010 12:40:13 AM
^ he's at least on the premium Pack Pride site, which would give him a lot info on recruiting. I assume that you are as well? Also, I've never heard of the following guys:*** S Pat Martin - Tennessee*** RB Malcolm Crockett - Cincinnati*** DE Max Issaka - PittAre you sure we were actually recruiting them?

Burris caught two TD passes and ran a punt back for a TD against Garner last night, and Brian Taylor went 13-14 for 279 yards and 5 TDs against Triton.

Rivals.com does not even list NC State as in interest for Jadeavon Clowney. Pretty safe to assume he's not a likely prospect.
9/1/2010 10:13:10 AM
i feel like im living in some kind of parallel space time... UNC-CH is getting sodomized by the NCAA and the Press and ESPN is writing unsolicited puff pieces about our coach who hasn't lived up to billing yet, but, but who is touted as "just wait, it will come".

I saw that too. I was wondering why high schools played last night (Thursday). I guess they bumped up local games one day in anticipation of Earl?
