I like this woman's illustrated effort to explain period pain to her boyfriend
8/20/2009 10:05:00 PM
holy fuck this thread is still running?
8/20/2009 10:06:54 PM
^^ IT'S SO TRUEcramps are ftl AND SPEAKING OFI'm on the pill and I take it religiously, but my period is on a weird cycle. Sometimes I only go 19 days between periods and on others 35 between. My doc says that it should even out, but I've been on the same pill forever, and it was weird before that. Ugh. ]
8/20/2009 10:18:16 PM
im kind of surprised so many girls still take the pillit became so annoying to me to have to take some shit every day. the ring is the shit ya'll!!
8/20/2009 10:22:54 PM
I loved the ring so much and was on it for a year and a half or something but then my cramps came back and I started having breakthrough bleeding so it had to go. I miss it.
8/20/2009 10:24:13 PM
ive converted lots of my friends to it! anyone who is interested in switching, its totally worth it and no, you cant feel it and neither can he
8/20/2009 10:25:14 PM
I've been thinking about an IUD but it, like the ring, kind of weirds me out I think it's nice having something that I can see and take everyday.
8/20/2009 10:25:54 PM
you can stick your finger up your vag and feel the ring everyday seriously im kind of obsessive about my birth control. when i was on the pill i took it at the EXACT same time every day and even had a daily alarm on my cell phone. it just became too muchim still obsessive with the ring, i take it out and put it in at the exact same time (but 7 days apart)
8/20/2009 10:27:44 PM
You're the kind of girl I want to have unprotected sex with.
8/20/2009 10:29:59 PM

8/20/2009 10:39:47 PM
hobbits, wat?
8/20/2009 10:40:56 PM
Should I take a B-12 supplement ladies?
8/20/2009 10:43:44 PM

8/20/2009 11:10:08 PM
seriously!!!!! does it fold up???
8/20/2009 11:13:06 PM
damn, i must be the only person who has had an absolutely perfect experience with the pill and doesn't find it inconvenient in the slightest O_oi am increasingly tempted by IUDs, but am so totally weirded out by the thought of them
8/20/2009 11:14:23 PM
^^ yes, then it springs into action when you let it go
8/20/2009 11:15:43 PM
^^My best friend just got hers taken out because it was causing her a lot of pain.
8/20/2009 11:17:26 PM
I've had mine for 3 years now! It is pretty cool. But I will admit...it hurt like a mother fucker going in. They said my cervix was a "runner." Every time they went to insert it the cervix would be all like "No way!" and pull back, so they had to clamp it. That is the part that hurt. They sprayed some cold shit up there to numb it but it didn't work. It was just cold added to the pain.
8/20/2009 11:17:42 PM
^^^^ pills are inconvenient but I like that I can set a timer on my phone and that they're there. Plus I can see what day I started and show the boyfriend if he ever asked about it I don't like the pain aspect of the IUD so much, but I like the idea of it being a permanent solution for a few years.V AHAHA I had a dog eat one when I was younger. I FREAKED OUT and called the vet, who I think told me that it would be ok since it was a ~50lb dog. ]
8/20/2009 11:19:34 PM
YOU COULD JUST BE GIVING THEM TO BRINDYHERE DOGGY DOGGY A TASTY ESTROGEN TREAT
8/20/2009 11:20:49 PM
sorry to keep butting in on the chick thread, but from a dude perspective, I'm more comfortable with the IUD. It's a whole lot harder for you to forget, or to "forget", and I can feel the string and know that the odds are very much in my favor.
8/20/2009 11:21:10 PM
I have a little card that goes in my wallet that says something like, Do Not Open Until Christmas...I mean Aug 2011
8/20/2009 11:21:17 PM
I'm really bad at forgetting to take the pill, even when I set an alarm to remind me. I really need to get back on the pill though, I've been off since Novemberish and I haven't had a period since Feb. I need to get my period regulated and shit again.
8/20/2009 11:21:18 PM
i thought you had an iud
8/20/2009 11:22:17 PM
The ring is the best thing ever! I have been on it for two years and LOVE it.The mirena is tempting, but the ring is just so easy. I can't remember to take a pill.
8/20/2009 11:22:26 PM
No periods off the pill? Have you been checked for PCOS?
8/20/2009 11:23:02 PM
^^^No, that's the only form I haven't tried. I've done the patch, the ring, and the pill. But apparently with my pcos the best for me to take is the pill. I just need to get back on it.^Yeah I have it.[Edited on August 20, 2009 at 11:24 PM. Reason : ]
8/20/2009 11:23:38 PM
how was the patch?
8/20/2009 11:24:11 PM
^^No! I have SEVERE PCOS! I use the IUD and metformin! I was off for a while, and now that I've been back on since may I've lost 30 pounds!! [Edited on August 20, 2009 at 11:25 PM. Reason : ..,.]
8/20/2009 11:24:36 PM
You know what it's like to have a bandaid on for a long time and it gets that dirty ring around it? Well that's what the patch does. And it moves around on your butt after a while. I didn't like it.I liked the ring a lot.^Well damn...maybe when I go back to the gyno I'll ask about that. [Edited on August 20, 2009 at 11:26 PM. Reason : ]
8/20/2009 11:25:12 PM
damn, elise, you must be a stick nowor did all the weight drop out of your ass? [Edited on August 20, 2009 at 11:26 PM. Reason : ^ew ew ew, that does not sound pleasant at all]
8/20/2009 11:25:36 PM
Well, mirena is non-hormonal, which is why I considered it. But I don't have emotional episodes anymore like I did the first few months I took it.Do you need a dose of hormones from the pill to help with pcos?
8/20/2009 11:25:40 PM
^^^^^ The patch was horrible, I don't know why I used it as long as I didA It looks gross like an old band-aid, but my boyfriend could see it and know that it was there.B It took me awhile to figure it out, but it made me nauseated/cramp more than normal. I thought it was just stress but after I went off the patch I was fine. C Even though I rotated areas where I wore it I developed an allergy to it and it left burns on me for a few months This thread is blowing up ]
8/20/2009 11:26:20 PM
fluffy - I gained close to 30 pounds being off the metformin.Warning - Metformin has tummy side effects, ask your doctor about that stuff, too. I'm willing to deal with it because diabetes runs in the family and if you don't deal with PCOS correctly you may develop it later in life. There have been a lot of new discoveries about it recently. Do some research! My sis and I both have it, I take the metformin, she doesn't cuz she can't deal with the tummy problems. I would bet she weighs 100 pounds more than me, has more hair growth, all the bad side effects. Seriously, do some research. My first gyno put me on the pill to mask the symptoms. My sis was lucky enough to have a gyno that was a bit engrossed with the whole PCOS issue.[Edited on August 20, 2009 at 11:31 PM. Reason : ..]
8/20/2009 11:26:35 PM
^^^mirena is hormonal O_o[Edited on August 20, 2009 at 11:27 PM. Reason : ^i guess that shouldn't surprise me lol]
8/20/2009 11:26:48 PM
Yeah, it's the hormones that keep me regulated...basically I don't produce enough estrogen to promote ovulating without the BC. I'll probably have to take a boost of hormones to get me started back on my period. Damn the first period I have is going to suck.
8/20/2009 11:27:21 PM
8/20/2009 11:30:19 PM
Oops, I confused mirena with the copper iud, which is non-hormonal.The patch was Horrible. My periods lasted an entire month and I just wanted to cry all day, every day. It made me so depressed.
8/20/2009 11:30:55 PM
Not to mention it just looks horrible.
8/20/2009 11:31:34 PM
sawahash - that stupid progesterone they give you to force a period SUCKS ASS. It makes me sick taking it for a week, then another week of cramps, and THEN a week of severe bleeding.
8/20/2009 11:32:46 PM
Yeah I had to take it once before....pretty much sucked.
8/20/2009 11:37:45 PM
the only thing that really sucks about metformin is trying to limit the carbs, and the week or two getting used to it periodlots of carbs + metformin = rumbly tummy (if you know what I mean)but, taking metformin means it takes less to get you drunk!basically, with the pcos your body is storing sugar instead of burning it. metformin helps you burn it. but, if i eat the wrong thing before bed my stomach burns with hunger at about 3 am, and then i don't feel like eating. peanut butter was my friend. you'll need to eat lots of protein!
8/20/2009 11:42:48 PM
I also heard the patch was the most dangerous...
8/20/2009 11:43:41 PM
The ring didn't work for me. My vag had some weird reaction and rejected that shit. [Edited on August 20, 2009 at 11:47 PM. Reason : the pain was horrible]
8/20/2009 11:47:10 PM
I never had a problem with the pill. I think I'll stick to it.
8/20/2009 11:49:14 PM
i joined hautelook or whatever and just ordered some 7 cords off of it tonight for 79. i know that is still expensive but they look really cute and it was like 57% off.whoops
