I guess we're stuck with him now?
11/25/2016 3:45:50 PM
I said at the beginning of the season that I'd be happy with 6-6, considering our schedule. So I guess I'm happy? Idk..
11/25/2016 3:46:38 PM
now do you guys see what i meant when i was trolling begging you to wait and let the season play out?
11/25/2016 3:47:08 PM
Agreed. Let's see how the QuickCreditRatings.Net Bowl plays out before we decide.
11/25/2016 3:52:06 PM
Lol
11/25/2016 3:53:53 PM
^^^^ we should be 9-3, fuck Dave
11/25/2016 3:59:15 PM
3? I only remember 2 that we should have lost
11/25/2016 4:06:50 PM
dave is the reason we should be 9-3 though.

Yay for 6-6
11/25/2016 5:16:19 PM
No shit, you dumb fuck

This is one of those what could have been seasons, but we beat UNC so plus credibility to DD. We were clearly the better team today.

just silly decision making and poor clock management again for old DaveO. Pleased he had the guys ready to play, that's a great thing. Came out with good intensity...but, that clock management at the end of the first half, o brother. If you have a snake bit kicker, why are you playing to settle for a FG clown boy? Also, in the 4th qtr with around 7:50 left, we get the ball. Go 3 and out by throwing multiple incomplete passes to stop the clock? Melt the clock with our stud running backs. Dudes an ass that may never learn how to manage the clock or have situational awareness...but by god he hates chapel hill.
11/25/2016 8:06:48 PM
^There are actually a lot of coaches who have poor clock management skills and out coach themselves.
11/25/2016 8:09:30 PM
^agree 100%. I'd be irritated with them too.
11/25/2016 8:12:29 PM
actually haskins had been alright from super short distance.and if the best call was to run at the end, then throwing a pass could have caught carolina's loaded box off guard and sealed the game instead of playing to not lose.
11/25/2016 8:14:16 PM
And I can understand where DD was thinking at the end of the half. Up by 14. Would be up 21 if not for the fumble that gave them the short field. They are a quick strike type of team, so don't even give them a chance to get the ball with 40 seconds left in the half and march down the field and give them any type of confidence whatsoever. Kick a field goal, get the ball back at the beginning of the 2nd half, keep up the 1st half momentum and this game is over.I will say that I wish we at least made one attempt to get into the end zone in the last twenty seconds. Or if we weren't concerned with trying to get a first down, McClendon should be trying to just dive and get to the center of the field to give the kicker the best trajectory.
11/25/2016 8:52:52 PM
I mean, at some point you just need your kicker to make the fucking field goal.5 yards out shouldn't be too much of an ask.
11/25/2016 8:53:30 PM
So now that it's official he is back next year...what record would it take for you to consider keeping him after next season? Next year's schedule:OOC games: South Carolina (neutral), Marshall (H), Notre Dame (A), Furman (H)ACC home games: Clemson, Louisville, Syracuse, UNCACC away games: Florida State, BC, Wake Forest, PittsburghMy guess is 3-1 OOC (probably ND?), go 3-0 vs. BC, WF, Syracuse, and a likely split UNC/Pitt. That gives us a 7-2 overall, 4-1 ACC. So it comes down to how content you would be with their performance vs. the division heavyweights. I'm not sure a 1-2 record in those games would help quiet the anti-Doeren crowd. That would leave us at 8-4 overall, with a 5-3 ACC record. Go 2-1, and that's 9-3 (6-2 ACC). I think it's safe to say if he doesn't have a winning ACC record next season, we can move on.
11/26/2016 11:19:18 AM
Yep, it's official. The Dave in hand is worth Strong in the bush
11/26/2016 11:23:27 AM
8-4 or GTFO
11/26/2016 11:27:31 AM
11/26/2016 11:34:14 AM
nd is a definite loss if we can't get another hurricane
11/26/2016 12:45:15 PM
I'm fairly surprised we even sent out a release. Never thought he was in any danger this year
11/26/2016 1:25:21 PM
I think if we went 6-6 and beat the bad teams and lost to the good he'd have been safe ... but 5-7 losing to ECU and BC and then UNC to top it off would have gotten him canned.
11/26/2016 1:26:34 PM
fucking gross
11/26/2016 1:32:14 PM
I want an apology from everyone on this board who ever doubted me
11/26/2016 1:34:52 PM
Not getting fired doesn't make him a good coach. It just means he isn't getting fired. He's still only won 3 ACC games at Carter Finley. His ACC win list after 4 years remains the same:Syracuse (3x)Wake Forest (3x)Boston CollegeNorth Carolina (2x)Basically, the guy knows how to beat Wake Forest, Syracuse, and road games at Chapel Hill. His conference record is horrendous, and if he can't go .500 in conference next season then it's time to move on.[Edited on November 26, 2016 at 1:48 PM. 11/26/2016 1:47:32 PM
3 automatic losses each year and 2 likely losses each year. When you adjust for those 4-5 games, you are left with the teams on that win list and his conference record isn't too shabby.
11/26/2016 2:37:25 PM
"automatic losses" are for losers
11/26/2016 3:33:55 PM
9 - 23 ACC record... Not too shabby? LOL. TOB was 22-26 in the ACC. I'll gladly eat crow if he goes 13-3 in the next 2 years.Think we'll go 2-2 OOC, 2-1 against the bottom 3 ACC teams and win 2 more against Clemson/UL/FSU/Pitt/UNC.I'm happy we won but this kinda feels like Bunting's won against Miami back in 04.
11/27/2016 9:57:24 AM
That press release from DY sounds like she let DD write it. Happy we squeezed out a bowl game this year, but the losses to ECU and BC are still pretty inexcusable. There are a lot of coaches who have turned around shit programs quickly so DD needing 5 years to try and get a .500 conference record is just disappointing.
11/27/2016 10:33:54 AM
list the coaches who "turned around shit programs quickly"TOB did not coach in the same ACC
11/27/2016 11:18:44 AM
Gottfried turned around a shit program quickly
11/27/2016 12:17:11 PM
yeah its amazing how quickly he was able to bring in brown, wood, leslie, and howell.
11/27/2016 10:17:12 PM
TOB should get most of the credit for the 0-8 season. Doeren isn't a miracle worker
11/27/2016 10:43:55 PM
And yet in year four his best player on the team was a TOB recruit. We are going to beat Temple in the Military Bowl and DD will be extending through 2022 for winning 7 games when his predecessor was fired for winning 7 regular season games.
11/27/2016 10:54:56 PM
who is the best player on the team?
11/27/2016 11:17:18 PM
clearly, Shad #RIPGIRLFRIEND]
11/27/2016 11:37:01 PM
this was year 4. shad was kicked off the team before year 3
11/27/2016 11:51:45 PM
Matt All Day Dayes baby of course!
11/28/2016 12:39:59 AM
DD has won less ACC games in his first 4 years than any NC State coach since Tom Reed, who was fired after 3 years. That being said, if your going to discredit comparing DD to any previous coach because we "play in a different conference" I really see no point in arguing with you.
11/28/2016 7:40:13 AM
We will go 6-6 again next year
11/28/2016 8:12:46 AM
then he'll be gone
11/28/2016 8:30:51 AM
Doubtful. If they didnt fire him this year the closer he gets to the Yow retirement date the less likely he will be gone or at least the less likely we get any coach who will be better than him. Maybe they can him and promote within just to say they did something but I doubt anyone comes in knowing the AD is definitely changing soon after.
11/28/2016 8:36:52 AM
11/28/2016 9:01:02 AM
Why would 6-6 NOT be OK next year if 6-6 is acceptable this year? He's obviously shown enough to convince Yow that he will be our coach long term.
11/28/2016 10:06:29 AM
imo assigning hard and fast "you better win X games or you're fired" is never really a great idea. too many variables there. and really, is 1 game gonna convince you this coach is either bad or good? solely the difference between 8-4 or 9-3 shouldn't be enough to say "this coach is fine moving forward" or "can his sorry ass". how you achieve that record and how the product is on the field and recruiting and other factors all play into it. i get the sentiment that we wanna see big steps, not just small steps, toward improvement. but it's just too variable to say "he's only safe if he wins X games" imo
