we wouldnt see them unless we both got to the finals.

Germany will beat EnglandThey haven't faced a team yet with that amount of talent.
6/23/2010 4:42:23 PM
welp, the games are all over, so the vultures should be coming in to shit on soccer. later
6/23/2010 4:44:24 PM
^Honestly I don't see what the big deal about soccer isI mean it's so boring and lame, and who cares about the USI guess I'm just like "meh" also, FOOTBALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.
6/23/2010 4:45:26 PM
Germany hasn't faced a team with England's amount of talent either.
6/23/2010 4:46:42 PM
hopefully it will be a good game.
6/23/2010 4:48:02 PM
^^ I agree, all of the teams in Group D were better than England.
6/23/2010 4:50:15 PM
Sure thing, hoss.

I'm not a huge soccer fan, but I don't know how anyone can shit on what we saw today. The US game was entertaining as hell ... gut-wrenching at times. If nothing else, it's giving casual fans a nice bridge to football season.
6/23/2010 5:16:50 PM
I'll say this, I saw twice as many people in the sports bar today than I saw for the Super Bowl. And I heard it was like that all over town. For a 9:30am game.
6/23/2010 5:20:27 PM
In all fairness, the Super Bowl is pretty much a stay at home game for almost everyone. But I was at a bar this morning and it was awesome. And I'm calling it right now, Chile eliminates Spain on Saturday.[Edited on June 23, 2010 at 5:23 PM. Reason : f]

Not that any path through the World Cup is easy, but the US's bracket looks somewhat favorable:USA/Ghana --- Uruguay/South Koreaon the other side there's: Germany/England --- Argentina/Mexico
6/23/2010 5:27:59 PM
man im still pumped from this morning
6/23/2010 5:42:44 PM
6/23/2010 5:46:42 PM
yea, the place I went this morning had a ton more energy than when I went to the same bar for the NBA game 7 last week. Was so much fun. The place erupted when we scored that goal; you would have thought we had 200 people there instead of 50 with how loud it was.

By calling me a gd moron, you're saying Chile has absolutely no chance to beat Spain? Because if they do and the Swiss tie/beat Honduras, that is exactly what will happen. Actually Chile just has to draw for Spain to likely be fucked. But, yeah I'm a goddamn moron.[Edited on June 23, 2010 at 6:31 PM. Reason : f]

^^ you got to be kiddingSpain wins by 2 goals
6/23/2010 7:08:18 PM
Could very well happen. But to think Spain will waltz over a very good Chile team (better than Swiss, imo) is a bit naive.
6/23/2010 7:10:18 PM
6/23/2010 7:11:46 PM
LOL fair enough. Even though I think you're in the minority thinking Spain is a lock to advance.[Edited on June 23, 2010 at 7:17 PM. Reason : f]

So Tuesday at 6:30, mexico was playing and every bar in san diego was packed with loud fans. Today at 6:30, usa was playing, and it was a typical wednesday morning. No bar in sight was open.It couldn't have been THAT exciting considering nobody even scored in regulation. So you watched guys run back and forth for 91 minutes before one scored? exciting. It did look really cool the way they showed highlights mixed in with england highlights with the time on the screen at the end of sportscenter. Apparently, england thought they had advanced at one point and then us scored at the end to out-advance them? Does anyone have a video like this or can explain how it all went down?

Someone send up the NyMod light, mambagirl has found the world cup thread
6/23/2010 7:55:12 PM
My nerves are shot after watching Germany. I hope its more relaxed against the Poms. 2-0 up after 25 minutes would do just fine.

unbelievable couple of days of soccer, this has gone from one of the worst world cups ever to a potentially very good cupevery great world cup has at least one memorable game and USA's game just might be that one for this cup[Edited on June 23, 2010 at 8:58 PM. Reason : .]

Are you seriously using San Diego as a measure of the public? San Diego is one of the worst sports towns on the planet. Try making your rounds on any college football Saturday and it will be the same.

I'm not a big soccer fan. But damn it's been nice to have something to fill one of the dead months between Hockey and Football.I wonder if this'll help the MLS get a few more fans. Probably not, but anything's possible.
6/23/2010 9:15:49 PM
There is a HUGE difference between the MLS and International play. For instance, International play is fun to watch while MLS play is sloppy and rather disheartening

^^^regardless of any discussion of the quality of play in the MLS vs. european leagues the MLS simply does not have the money to suppot any kind of mass exodus of european players into the MLS. its just not there. the money in the MLS isn't even close to even smaller european clubs and leagues. you might peel off a couple players here and there, but what you are predicting simply can't happen.[Edited on June 23, 2010 at 9:48 PM. Since the MLS seal was broken. I'll ask this. I was thinking about this today. How many MLS players played in this years WC? Or are on rosters? Just curious.
