For those of us with the Epic Seidio just released their extended battery. I thought I would have had 2.2 before they got the extended battery released. shame. BTW its expensive.

12/14/2010 1:46:17 PM
Shoot, some phones will have 2.3 before the Fascinate ever gets Froyo.
12/14/2010 1:47:55 PM
haha. probably. I don't really care though. I don't use Flash and the performance gain won't be that big of a deal since it's already fast. I'd be pissed if I bought one of those docking stations that have the audio outputs which can't be used until Froyo.
12/14/2010 1:55:09 PM
so i was trying to update from 2.3.15 to 2.3.340 using these files after i was linked to them by someone on some other forumshttp://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-x-discussion/5789-tbh-patches-2-3-340-system-baseband-2-3-340-kernel-bootloader.htmli've flashed a couple roms on my phone, so i'm not completely unaware of how everything works. i followed all the instructions, and when i tried rebooting my phone i get a black screen that saysBootloader30.04Err:A5, 70, 39, 00, 27Battery OKOK to ProgramConnect USBData Cableif i connect my phone to my laptop with my USB cable it changes toBattery OKOK to ProgramTransfer Mode:USBi also can't seem to reboot into recovery mode. did i brick my phone?
12/14/2010 6:15:55 PM
^^^ i would've preferred that, but the unlimited data plan is probably gone within a couple months, so that kind of forced my hand
12/14/2010 6:17:17 PM
yeah, being in the bootloader is no good. Hopefully there are .sbf files that you can use with RSDlite floating around for the Droid x.
12/14/2010 6:19:08 PM
so does the 2.3.340 update not work with rooted phones? it failed the first time, so i tried unrooting and it still won't take
12/14/2010 6:40:55 PM
^^There should be. Even if you can't flash the latest update whatever that is, you can flash some version of stock and manually update from there, and reroot.

there's really no point in getting an anti-virus as long as you aren't an idiot, but lookout has other useful features.
12/14/2010 10:00:14 PM
welp, just sdf'd back to 2.2 OTA and have to add all my contacts and start over again in angry birds. fucking shit.

12/15/2010 7:28:20 AM
If you guys aren't installing AppBrain to back up your app list, I have no pity on you if you have to re-install stuff.
12/15/2010 7:38:29 AM
I will get it now.

Has anyone played with the Motorola Droid 2 Global? I'm thinking of picking one up so I can finally put my ancient Omnia down. Spec-wise, it seems like a beast, but the rumors I keep hearing about the battery life bug me. My friend who has a Droid 2 said that when he upgraded his OS, his Droid 2's battery life improved dramatically, but I don't know if the same will hold true for the Global. Also thinking of the Fascinate, but if you have other recommendations for a Verizon Wireless guy, I'd appreciate it.
12/15/2010 11:44:28 AM
Recommendation is to wait a month or so.
12/15/2010 11:51:11 AM
The only real difference between the Droid 2 and Droid 2 global are a few minor software changes, a little battery life difference and a lot of extra signal modes for INTL travel.[link]http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/compare.php?id[]=3008&id[]=2921&id[]=&id[]=&id[]=[/link][Edited on December 15, 2010 at 12:04 PM. 12/15/2010 12:03:04 PM
Are you suggesting waiting a month because of CES 2011? I guess my only thought with that was while CES would show off a lot of great stuff for the upcoming year, it may mean that I still need to wait yet another three or four months to actually get a hand on some of the things they show off. While I am willing to wait a month or so, I can't go much beyond that since my current phone is reaching the end of its days. Also, three or four months goes beyond what I'm willing to wait for a product that will probably have a life cycle of 20 months for me.
12/15/2010 12:17:14 PM
yeah, LTE handsets won't be available til like mid-2011
12/15/2010 1:31:27 PM
The newest Gmail update lets me set Priority Inbox as my default inbox. Holy shit.

Anyone know how to sync driod x with outlook!
12/15/2010 4:16:42 PM
12/15/2010 7:10:14 PM
^^ what exactly are you trying to sync? Regardless of what it is, you're probably going to need to sync outlook to google and then let the dx pull it from there.
12/15/2010 7:42:54 PM
I would like to sync my outlook calender and tasks to my Droid X.
12/15/2010 8:12:08 PM
Just went back to the X.
12/16/2010 8:55:34 AM
looks like dj05 for the Fascinate has finally been leaked to the general public. It isn't Froyo but should fix the laggy gps and backlight on the soft touch keys. Probably see if I can break my phone tonight.
12/16/2010 10:47:58 AM
The Nexus S comes out today at Best Buy. How good is T-Mobile's network (coverage & speed?) currently on ATT.http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Samsung+-+Google+Nexus+S+Mobile+Phone+-+Black+%28T-Mobile%29/1484107.p?skuId=1484107&id=1218262482328&ref=141&loc=01
12/16/2010 11:52:56 AM
Just wait for the att version. Im sure they'll make one. That or wait a month for a tegra 2 gingerbread phone
12/16/2010 12:41:51 PM
^^tmobile is "okay" at best. I'm planning on leaving them for Verizon in the next week or two
12/16/2010 1:28:35 PM
^chances are if you wait until January, you'll have the iPhone, Windows 7, and (maybe) some Android 4G phones available to you on VZW
12/16/2010 1:34:23 PM
And the Nexus S doesn't even support Tmobile's HSPA+.^ unlikely on the 4G LTE phones. You probably won't see those until middle of the next year based on reports. That said, I'd wait until summer if you can. ]
12/16/2010 1:37:44 PM
well there was a very small contingency that thought the Galaxy S might come to 4G VZW in February (obviously it's GSM only right now), i HIGHLY doubt Verizon will wait til the summer to add 4G phones to their lineup, not with T-mobile & Sprint having phones already.[Edited on December 16, 2010 at 2:07 PM. Reason : .]
12/16/2010 2:00:48 PM
we'll see. Wouldn't hold my breath though. There is rumor of something that's "supposed" to be better than the Nexus S in February but who knows.and fyi- looks like google maps in the market has been updated to the new 3d version
12/16/2010 3:37:52 PM
just installed dj05 and the gps lag is non-existent now. Highly recommend it for rooted fascinate owners. It's also nice that the soft touch backlights stay on until the screen times out. The boot animation has been removed so you'll hear the verizon boot sound but you'll see nothing but a black screen. Give it 5 min or so and everything should be good. No need to wipe either so everything returns where you left it.
12/16/2010 7:03:34 PM
so gotta root it to take screenshots? What other awesome games in addition to Angry Birds?
12/16/2010 9:07:30 PM
yup the android sdk is the only other way but I could never manage to get that to work. looks like LG is ramping up their Android handset production. Looks like they're ripping off touchwiz.http://androidandme.com/2010/12/phones/lg-announces-worlds-first-and-fastest-dual-core-smartphone-optimus-2x/

^ Saw that beast on the tech blogs. I haven't heard anything of a US release yet, only a Korean and then a hinted at European & East Asia release. Has there been any news on a domestic role out?
