^^how?
6/18/2009 5:49:40 PM
I went by the local AT&T store to make sure everything was set for tomorrow and to ask an unrelated question, and they had just got the shipment of phones in. The guy let me see my box.
6/18/2009 5:56:00 PM
I just called to make sure that I didn't actually have to be there at 7am tomorrow morning, but had to leave a message about it. If you saw boxes that specifically had people's name's on them though, that'd pretty much answer my question fully.
6/18/2009 6:03:18 PM
^yeah thats what Rami did too...he said they told him he doesn't have to wait in line for his phone he just has to walk in and pick it up. He pre-ordered the same way you did but in DC obviously lol.
6/18/2009 6:05:12 PM
The box didn't have my name on it. But he had a list of people, and more phones than on the list. Although he didn't give me actual numbers on either. But he said that only people that had pre-ordered would be allowed to enter the store from 7-9 and then at 9 the general public could shop on the extras. He did say that I had 7 days to pick it up though, and that I didn't have to show up at 7, just that if I showed up after 9 I'd have to deal with the genpop.]

i called 611 and that bastards are saying i cant upgrade until 12-22-09 this despite the fact i've been a customer since the bellsouth days and my monthly bill has been over $100 for some time.crap. anyone found a way around this? some chickee took my number and said she would look into it and get back in touch....but i doubt i'll be hearing anything from her.
6/18/2009 6:42:15 PM
mine said i'm eligible to upgrade next june. i'm like sweet, thx guis
6/18/2009 6:48:14 PM
Just got this e-mail
6/18/2009 8:13:21 PM
I wonder why they keep saying you have 7 days to pick it up. It's already been paid for in full, I wonder what happens after 7 days.
6/18/2009 8:15:50 PM
^Considering the rate at which this sold, I assume that they would refund your method of payment and try to sell it at that store.Although, it is AT&T...[Edited on June 18, 2009 at 9:25 PM. Reason : ]

So our cell phone bill is about $200 a monthOnly one phone qualifies for the 3GS despite both being purchased at same time. One is discounted as a family line so it doesnt quite equal $99 a month, but the other one has a ton of packages to drive the total up to $200.Think if I go to a store theyll let us upgrade both? Either way we are spending almost $200 combined a month, just distributed differently.
6/18/2009 9:33:19 PM
Yeah I was finally able to get home and see my AT&T status as "shipped". Ironically, the AT&T captcha for order tracking is apparently flash, because I couldn't see it on my iPhone, only the background lines.

Just use the following scenario. It's sure to work.My name is so-so from NBC/CBS/ABC/FOXetc and I'm a news reporter who received a call from a woman who had this experience with the company. Then I'm going to say 'Look....times are tough right now and we know that and don't want to get anyone fired or in trouble because let's be honest here....jobs aren't easy to find especially with a 'mark' on your references so we decided to let you and your company solve the issue with the customer and we won't go forward with the story...which in these economic times could be a disaster for your company'.

Sweet ... so .. I bought my 3g on a 3rd line on our family plan last year, and then switched it to be my main number, and gave my mother in law my old phone.SOOO ... I am up for an upgrade now ... figure I might as well buy the new iphone ... and sell my old iphone on ebay or one of those phone trade in places (quoting $215 for the iphone 3g 8GB)Just need to confirm that they will honor the "swap" and allow me to only have 1 iphone data plan.

So if I am just upgrading, why are they sending me a new SIM? or is this standard?
6/18/2009 11:07:46 PM
^Its standard. All iPhones come with a sim already in the phone.
6/18/2009 11:09:10 PM
standard
6/18/2009 11:10:20 PM
ok this is the first time I've upgraded in a long time. So when I activate my new phone, the old sim is dead?
6/18/2009 11:12:14 PM
^yes. once you plug the phone to the computer and go through the activation process in iTunes...the old sim will be useless.
6/18/2009 11:13:23 PM
and in case anyone doesn't know.. the SIM card doesn't hold any contacts or anything so there's no real value to keeping the old one
6/18/2009 11:26:01 PM
^it can...'copy to sim' then you can import from sim on the iphone if you have a non-iphone phone.[Edited on June 18, 2009 at 11:56 PM. Reason : .]

So does every 3G owner qualify for the $399/$499 price point or what
6/19/2009 12:34:29 AM
no
6/19/2009 12:40:54 AM
Yeah they do, right?Unless you mean no, some of them qualify for the lower price instead. But all 3G owners get at least the $200 "early upgrade" off right?]
6/19/2009 12:48:57 AM
^That was my understanding. It was the people who bought it within the first month that get the $199 price. You can sell the 8gb 3g's on CL if you unlock and jailbreak for about $250. Not too shabby at all.[Edited on June 19, 2009 at 1:15 AM. Reason : ' for clarity]
6/19/2009 1:15:03 AM

fuck i'm so pissed at at&t nowmy biggest bitch about the iphone has been the slowness in the interface (well that and lack of flash) and now they've friggin fixed it...but i can't buy it for anything less than $600 from what they told me on the phone.fuckers.]
6/19/2009 8:59:02 AM
What's worse is that all the rumors about next year's iPhone (which I think will be a major overhaul) will be swirling around the internets right about the time you're eligible for your reasonable upgrade. So then, do you wait 6 months or bite the bullet and find yourself in a worse situation when the new one is introduced 6 months later?
6/19/2009 9:24:46 AM
Man, if my local AT&T store is any indication at all (which, it's a small town, so it very well might not be) it shouldn't be hard at all to get your hands on a 3GS. They were doing preorder pickup from 7-9 and selling the excess stock at 9. I showed up about 8:15 and there was no line at all. There were 10 employees in the store and only 4 other people picking up phones. The guy I was next to said he was first in line and had been there since 4:00. For some reason it was taking them FOREVER to set his iPhone up, because I picked mine up in about half an hour and left the store while he was still standing there. When I left at quarter 'til 9, there was still no line at all. One of the employees said they had "plenty" of excess phones in the back but wouldn't tell me exactly how many. But, long story short, if you want a phone it really shouldn't be hard at all to get one. At least not in my town.
6/19/2009 9:31:38 AM
i, for one, am sort of glad i'm not eligible for an upgrade until this time next year... i'm guessing that new dual-core ARM chip will be making its way into the iphone...
6/19/2009 9:32:12 AM
I just paid 600 for this and I actually feel like it was worth it. This is officially a compleletly usable web browsing device. Safari on the 3gs using wifi is as fast as a desktop browser. It's quite impressive. I am about to see how 3g compares.i just used the ipod and compared it to my old 3g, it opens instantly even with 18g of music. also, the speaker is slightly louder on this new phone. this has truly made the iphone a very enjoyable device to use for just about everything.. there is just no waiting for anything. even in 3g its very impressive.the best part is how awesome games are on it! all the games which i thought were just barely playable before...they fucking rock now! supercross xl is amazing, tiger, some terminator demo, its really just awesome.i didnt really like games on the iphone much before...but now they are really great.im about to go spend some money in the app store...i guess apple did their job[Edited on June 19, 2009 at 10:24 AM. wifi performance comparing my 3g os 3.0. (left) and 3gs (right)it also keeps many tabs in memory...ive run a bunch of games and then went back into safari to see if they were there..they were..94mb free[Edited on June 19, 2009 at 10:27 AM. Reason : z]

^ the wifi does look faster, but I believe the bigger benefit from the 3G S will be in the rendering speeds. On the 3G, I think the slow processor and Webkit couldn't keep up with a fast wi-fi connection
