The pain from my period is worse than the pain from the exploratory surgery I had to try and figure out WTF is wrong. It sucks, especially because the doc at campus health won't give me percocet but I have to take so much vicodin I'm out for at least 2 days (with the percs it's just a half day my period ruins).

I didn't get gardisil because it doubles your chances of developing rheumatoid arthritis. My mother and grandmother had RA so no way I was getting the vaccine. Doubling my chances of developing RA would mean I'm pretty much guaranteed to be crippled in a decade or two.

"I try to shop in my friends' closets.

About once a month, my friends and I hold a Clothing Swap Wine Night. We trade shoes, purses, jewelry, dresses, perfumes, sweaters ... you name it. I got a free Betsey Johnson dress one time that goes for around $400 retail.

Does anyone else do this?"

i love this idea!! i may host one locally. also, you may want to look into donating the stuff no one wants from the swap to a charity. dress for success is one that i know of that provides women in need job and resume help and also allows them to pick 5 professional outfits from their 'boutique.' not sure where they have organizations but anything similar would work. as for regular clothes, donate and get that tax deduction!

as for the gardasil vaccine, i got it a few years ago when it just came out. my insurance didnt cover it, i paid out of pocket but saved on dr visits by just going in and having the nurse do it when i was scheduled. as for birth control. i've been on the ring for a year and a half after AGES on ortho tri cyclen. i fucking love the ring, its $20 on my insurance and i only have to deal with it once a month. i converted my cousin and a few other friends to it and they love it as well.

i dont prefer them but they're a must for work and the gym if i dont want panty lines

some are more comfortable than others. i find the ones with the lace waistbands are the most comfortable

is there anyway we can make the swap on a fri/sat/sun? mon-thur are waaaaaaaay too busy for me.

maybe we can do a clothing swap and wine tasting? everyone bring items to swap and a bottle of wine to share.

I recommend posting pics of swap items in advance so people have an idea of what to expect.

Or at least summarizing the brands, items, etc. that people can expect to see.

i could probably ask the general tww (or the tww doctors) this question, but it is more common for women soooo i'll see if anyone can help

i got my labwork back from my physical and everything was good (yayyy) except that i'm pretty anemic soooo i'm going to start taking iron/b12 supplements and get rechecked in 2 months. this is good news because it explains my general fatigue. bad news because its not like i don't eat foods high in this stuff, so hmmm.

anyway i was wondering if anyone else has had to take b12/iron and what you took? i also read online that it is better to take it with vitamin c because that helps with absorption. anyone know about that?

i figured someone has to have experience with iron supplements

I, too, am anemic. Fortunately, I'm only mildly anemic and my iron levels stay in the low 30s. Thus, it's not too big of a problem and I'm working hard to get higher iron levels.

If you are consuming non-heme iron (from plants, multi-vitamins--basically things that don't bleed), then you MUST take iron with Vitamin C. Vitamin C promotes the absorption of non-heme iron.

The iron in meat (particularly beef) is much easier for your body to absorb naturally. This is a problem if you're a vegetarian/vegan.

I love the idea of a wine tasting + swap.

Iron supplements are non-heme. Heme is a root word for blood. Thus, non-heme iron refers to iron sources that aren't from an organism that bleeds. Iron from beef is heme iron. Iron from spinach and supplements is non-heme iron.

^^^^ thank you! i just wanted to make sure that was right.

so i can just go to like the regular drug store and buy vitamin c and iron supplement (b12 or whatever)?? i guess i could always ask the pharmacist too.

jeeeesus i'm going to need one of those pill container things for my daily pills. i'm too spazzy to remember to take 4 things from 4 different bottles!

^ i know when i read the list of foods with iron i was like...but i DO eat a lot of that stuff. i guess i don't eat much red meat, but i eat it. i eat fish, poultry and dark leafy green veggies (spinach, etc) i practically LIVE on. but i guess like you said the heme iron is easier for natural absorption and if i don't eat a TON of meat, that could be the problemo

Take your iron pills with a glass of orange juice to maximize the supplement's benefits. Or cook your spinach and broccoli with lemon juice. Just get Vitamin C in there somewhere.

Additionally, you may want to be cognizant of the general amount of iron in foods. Here's a helpful link for calculating your iron intake: http://www.sandiegobloodbank.org/donating_blood/iron_rich_foods.php

they do make heme iron supplements. i had a blood disorder that made me severely, bedriddenly anemic a few years ago and it came down to taking heme supplements or getting a blood transfusion. i swallowed the pills and started eating steak

Also, the iron in leafy greens is not as well absorbed if you eat it raw. So if you eat, say, spinach salad, that doesn't help all that much. I think I am going to start taking iron again too. I've been feeling kind of meh lately and I think that might be part of it.

the martini party is happening tonight! i ended up finding some really cute colorful napkins at marshalls for $2

i also got a set of placemats and napkins at bed bath and beyond for $10. 2 pink 2 green 2 blue. i am setting them around the living room for people to put their drinks on so i dont have to enforce coasters (lol)

i put my dining table in the garage and put this long, large desk i have in the dining area as the bar. my boyfriend is going to be my party bartender. this is going to be a life saver!! he's a whiz at drink mixing, can talk to anyone and will handle the alcohol prep and serving so i can focus on keep the food out and guests mixing. oh yea, and hes wearing a tux

i have the lighting planned, low light without being too dark. i'm also utilizing my back porch area where i have 5-6 places to sit. going to put out citronella candles to ward off mosquitos. my porch isn't exactly private but since i back up to a fence and the woods, it pretty much is. the sliding glass to the porch is right next to the bar so it'll be easy in and out as well as easy to get a drink from inside or out.

i originally invited about 12 people but with the added help of my boyfriend, especially on fixing drinks, i was able to invite approx 20 girls and have extended the invite for people to bring others if they want.

the best part... when you're hosting a bunch of girls, everyone wants to be helpful. i originally planned on handling all the appetizers but since it's grown, i've had at least 5 offers to bring appetizers, all were accepted. i even have 2 people coming early to help with the finishing touches of set up (and the added benefit of there being seed people already drinking and talking when everyone else starts to arrive)

music is going to be my ipod hooked up to my surround sound speakers streaming pandora so the mood can be set and mixed on its own, as well as changed at a moments notice.

now, the only thing i have to worry about is blow drying my hair & picking an outfit

still need to hit the liquor store and grocery store but spent the whole evening last night cleaning the house from top to bottom, setting up the bar and clearing out all the day to day stuff i had in the living room.

super pumped and hoping this becomes a frequent thing that different girls host on a monthly basis!

you guys should do one of your own!

i literally invited every female i've ever met in houston. i invited people i knew like 3 times removed and didn't even know how to spell their name.

drinks flowing and tons of people are all you need to make a successful party!

i think im most excited about the boy bartending in a tux, its an all girls type party but i dont think anyone will mind the eye candy no one knows about it, so its kind of a surprise

i want to do a swap and wine party like ncsugalax is hosting, that sounds fun too!

im not going to wear a cocktail dress (this time) but im def going to be spruced up a little bit. the main reason i didnt ask guests to wear cocktail dresses is because one of the girls is 7mo pregnant (and drinking virgin drinks lol) so i didnt want to leave her out. like i said if this becomes frequent, i'd love to wear dresses!

as for the martini menu, i asked all guests to bring a martini glass (bc i knew i wouldn't have enough, i only have 5) and a recipe with ingredients. i'm providing all the alcohol and a few mixers to get it started. i'm interested to see what kind of stuff people bring, i think that'll make it interesting but i'll have enough back up stuff in case its a bust. its supposed to be a martini taster type thing so you can discover new drinks

My gfs and I are doing a wine tour in Austin for Labor Day weekend if you want to join. We're taking a limo from Austin to the wine region and cruising all day on 9/5.

the party was a huge success! had tons of fun and having the boyfriend bartend was the best idea ever. it was awesome.

the bar set up

the happy guests

plenty of food with tons of variety. also ended up with a lot of extra alcohol that people brought and left, even though the invite stated i'd provide all alcohol

at the end of the day, i ended up with a mean ass stocked bar. i had to start from scratch so dropped a bit at the liquor store but now i'm ready for the next party!
