Yeah I mean, "Obama doesn't call families of fallen soldiers" isn't much of a stretch to the "Obama is a secret homosexual Kenyan Muslim" crowd.

He's trying to deflect from the fact that he didn't care about fallen soldiers, was golfing as their casket arrived, then LIED about writing a letter to their families to the entire media.

How weird would it have been if obama was obsessing about beating McCain as he was meeting with consitutents in town halls for ACA a year after the election?

Narcissism would suck if you had the ability to understand how fucked up you are.

I think it's weird he's still enjoying 37% approval for a solid 6 months despite being obviously unfit.

I wish some reporter would have thought to ask him the names of the soldiers he wrote letters for...

After the criticism Trump received for his poor handling of hurricane relief, a bunch of conservatives started passing around something from a person who had written a letter to Obama asking for help and never got a response. It blows my mind that so many people see that as equally bad.

I lean towards agreeing with you on that, though if scale is addressed I would argue that Trump is worse than most of the previous presidents, simply based on his own words.

LOL at his radio interview this morning. So many complete lies. He probably needs to be removed from office at this point and I haven’t really said that yet.. It’s beyond the pale. Not sure how anyone can take him literally or seriously.

This is going to so irreparable harm to the country at some point. Pence is awful and his policy sucks but Trump is already stacking the courts with religious freaks so it’s not like Pence could change the course of the country any worse..

Nothing in particular, just the unrelenting word salad and mistruths.

Though bringing up Kelly’s son as a political football is obviously something only a very disturbed and narcissistic man would do (and apparently both he and his wife were at a Gold Star reception in 2011 so not even true).

but most americans ARE religious freaks. How can the courts in a democracy matching the will of the people living in that democracy harm the country?

This is where liberal gymnastics fails to stick the landing. You can't admit the country isn't great in the first place.

Huh? We have an abhorrent history on civil rights, foreign policy (post-WW2), etc. Has anyone on here ever said we were perfect pre-Trump?

What the fuck are we doing on here if we cant voice displeasure about packing the courts with far right judges? I don’t care if we are 90% evangelical here. I still wouldn’t want those people being confirmed and codifying discrimination just because of a majority.

If you are Kelly, I don't see how you let this slide (unless you're an all-in Trump true believer, which I thought Kelly was more measured than that.) How could you not be at Trump's throat the minute you get some private time? Fuck duty to country this man is using your dead son as a false talking point.

The whole "Americans are inherently bad" line doesn't really work in a world where Brexit happened and far right movements are sweeping all over Europe. Americans aren't bad, people are.

It’s an irrelevant comment in any case. He knows that. His argument seems to be if the majority wants it, they should get it. He’s been going down that path for a while for some reason and it’s ridiculous for obvious reasons if you want to go down that path.

Somehow he has taken any Trump criticisms as attacks on democracy. It’s bizarre.

The article Cherokee posted SUPPORTS my claim that most Americans are religious freaks.
Quote :
"Somehow he has taken any Trump criticisms as attacks on democracy. It’s bizarre."

Its not any criticisms of trump. Its just the ones that criticize Trump for doing things he made clear he was going to do when he ran.

If you don't think Trump should be able to appoint conservative judges, then you don't support our constitution and thats fine. (I don't either, I just want you to stop the gymnastics of pretending that you do) Conservative judges are the will of the people and to an extent, that represents democracy. Expecting Trump to nominate liberal judges would be a betrayal to democracy like Garland was a betrayal to the left except thats the main thing Trump ran on. Obama was always interested in appeasing the right but Trump unapologetically ran on being the opposite way.

Quote :
"What the fuck are we doing on here if we cant voice displeasure about packing the courts with far right judges? "

You can voice displeasure thats fine. I have a problem with your implication that it is somehow "harming" the country that was built on and always maintained the very things you are complaining about.

If I didn't know any better, I'd think Trump created the right.

Huh? I’ve never argued he shouldn’t be able to. What are you talking about? I just think they are regressive and I don’t like them. See, unlike you, I believed Trump when he said he would run all of his nominees through the Heritage Foundation..

It IS harming the country. At least the way I want it to be. But I’m not saying it should be stopped. If you can’t grasp this I’ll just do what I should have done months ago and ignore you.

But is there anyone out there who thinks Trump is even the slightest bit capable of empathy and wouldn’t say this? Or even cares who dies? It’s all about getting credit for Trump.

Well you said this and the reasoning was completely absent. Can you elaborate on the "obvious reasons" since now you are saying you've never argued it (which is true), but you did say the counter was "ridiculous"

It should be obvious that is one example of what I was talking about but also the codifying of discrimatory law with regards to any class of people more generally. Ultra conservative justices have a long history of that obviously and that’s not the direction I want to see the country take. It’s wrong to me. But I’m not and I’ve never said they shouldn’t be allowed to be appointed. The right and the left have already made that decision.

I find it amusing when you show such disdain for other points of view while simultaneously exposing your own ignorance. Pot, meet kettle.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyranny_of_the_majority

The Founding Fathers were well aware of this potential hazard and implemented safeguards against it. Obviously you did not know this, but you should have.

It's what's really at the root of all the trumpsters hearts. They don't seem to understand the basic notion that they grew in a middle class white neighborhood, and just because they have never faced any discrimination, it doesn't mean that other people in the world are all like them.

"but it was the wrong thing?"

for the types of things you're talking about, right and wrong are subjective, and all sides believe they are absolutely right.

You don't get to decide what is right and what is wrong. A lot of the things you think are right, are wrong to me. At some point, in any society, its a ruling class, king, or democratic majority deciding what the country accepts as right and wrong and making that the law.

Quote :
"I find it amusing when you show such disdain for other points of view while simultaneously exposing your own ignorance. Pot, meet kettle."

I don't have any disdain for other points of view. I'm just calling out hypocrisy and "gymnastics" when I see it.
Quote :

What did I not know exactly? All you did was post a wikipedia tyranny of majority link and with the implication that I don't know about it. I've actually been the one on here saying Trump hasn't actually been able to do anything bad. If there are safeguards, then there is nothing to worry about, right? So what is everyone worried about? Do they not know about it either?

It looks like you don't know what tyranny means because it can't be tyranny unless it defies the rights afforded in the constitution. If the majority wanted to break the law by taking away the rights of the minority, they can't and it would be overturned in the courts. "but what if trump replaces all the judges?" term limits and Senate confirmation process don't give you enough time to personally configure the judicial system.

It all boils down to his judges having an interpretation of the constitution that you disagree with. Thats not tyranny, its politics.

Just because something you don't like is happening, doesn't automatically make it tyranny.
