How bad is our fucking recruiting when most of the news is about kickers and then the thread becomes TA argument/reflection time.
7/30/2010 7:16:22 AM
^ yeah bttt, we lost LB Jared Barber to West Virginia. He was a NC product and listed us a high interest. I believe we were in his top 2.Tough loss
7/30/2010 9:38:12 AM
^ (sad)^^ yea, i can't believe i read thru two pages of TA arguments with the bump in pages I thought we got a really good recruit. I saw today that our ranking is now 95th on scout. At least our recruiting rankings will now match our national rankings in major statisical categories.
7/30/2010 11:27:52 AM
I guess the good news is that the past 4 years or so, by this time of year, we've only averaged about 6-8 commits thus far for the upcoming class. So for us to be at 4 so far isn't that bad. Plus TOB already said that he's only looking to sign about 15~ish guys, so I don't think we're looking to sign a large class. Here's a breakdown of the number of commitments that our competition already has. UNC: 16Duke: 21 Wake: 8USC: 11Clemson: 16Va. Tech: 8UVA: 20Maryland: 11FSU: 14UGA: 15Ga. Tech: 9Hopefully the uncommitted recruits will see that classes are filling up and think about where they can make a difference.[Edited on July 30, 2010 at 1:18 PM. Reason : ]

^ true. we are still in it with a lot of 4 and 5* recruits. actually i don't ever remember us offering and then having that many top-flight talent naming us in their lists.
7/30/2010 6:54:42 PM
81 on scholarship this season.13 seniors.= 17 available.+ 1 for RW going to the MLB=18 available before any additional attrition.
7/31/2010 9:12:22 AM
So last night my neighbor told me there's a junior (this fall) from SE Raleigh that's gonna come to State next year. I dunno what position he plays or what his name is, tho.
7/31/2010 1:38:01 PM
^ doesn't necessarily mean a whole lot but a kid named "Dolphus Pearson" is the only player listed as a prospect on either scout or rivals.

Wake scares me with Vad. I hope he doesn't choose them.
8/2/2010 11:44:38 AM
Go to wake ... be the next Riley Skinner CJ Leak
8/2/2010 11:57:21 AM
Can't really blame him if he picks Wake. They have a lot more question marks at QB. Not to mention they have won 14 more games than us over TOB's tenure here.[Edited on August 2, 2010 at 12:04 PM. Reason : ffg]

We need athletic kids like Lee.
8/2/2010 2:12:20 PM
We need something on the recruiting front.
8/2/2010 2:28:19 PM
Pack Pride has learned that Syracuse linebacker E.J. Carter has officially enrolled at NC State. Carter was one of the top true freshmen linebackers in the country last season.

8/3/2010 9:24:24 AM
sweet, more off-field fuckups, that's what we need
8/3/2010 9:26:11 AM
got dismissed for missing meetings and stuffhe was supposed to be the starter for the orange at OLB. Seems to be a good talent just needs to get his head on straight and attend meetings and comply with team rules.
8/3/2010 9:26:28 AM
awesome pickup
8/3/2010 9:32:20 AM
Since he was dismissed does he still have to sit a year or can he play right away? I'm assuming he has 4 years to play 3.
8/3/2010 9:35:18 AM
has to sit out this year then has 3 to play 3
8/3/2010 9:36:24 AM
could care less if the kid missed meetings. wont happen w/ TOB. he'll grow up in this next year and hopefully be a solid addition.
8/3/2010 9:37:49 AM
6^ Right, because Michael Lemon was a real bust for us. And our recruiting is going so well thus far this offseason.I trust our coaching staff to keep the good seeds and weed out the bad ones. (i.e. Pete Singer)[Edited on August 3, 2010 at 9:40 AM. Reason : ]

yeah, even if a team full of 2 and 3 star players that were overlooked were to win a BCS title, it would still only be an aberration.until schools stocked with 4 and 5 star recruits win only as often as schools with more 'mediocre' recruits for a sustained period, you can't state that stars are meaningless.
8/3/2010 12:37:42 PM
Russell Wilson and Nate Irving were 2-star recruits. So was Michael Crabtree. The stars do mean something. But they should be taken with a grain of salt.
8/3/2010 12:43:14 PM
The fact that teams like Utah and Boise State can win without being chocked full of 4 and 5 star recruits does mean something, as well as the fact that some players that go to bigger schools get overrated. But that doesn't mean that the star system isn't a decent indicator for talent and ability. Those 4 and 5 star guys usually have the build and athleticism that is rarely found at their position. The scouts aren't going to go through every last game film, that's why they have their combines so that they can see these guys up close and how they fair against similar competition. The most important thing for the coaches to do though is to look at game film and keep up with the underclassmen due to word of mouth contacts or in the game statistics in the newspaper.[Edited on August 3, 2010 at 1:25 PM. There's also a bias in these systems where if a top-tier school offers a kid a scholarship, that player must be top-tier as well, which affects whatever impartiality exists. If you could set up a double-blind test for determining a player's potential, that would add some credibility to these sites' legitimacy. They don't really need legitimacy though.
8/3/2010 1:36:52 PM
they're looking at thousands of kids a year. It might diminish the system if you have 500 5-star players.
8/3/2010 1:39:45 PM
College Basketball star rankings are much more accurate. I put much more validty in those than I do football. It's a numbers game really. In basketball, you've got 100 guys that are going to be seriously evaluated in the country, and scout and rivals need only a few guys to put in the necessary time. Basketball teams get, what, 12 scholarships, football gets 85. Pretty easy to see how Scout and Rivals could overlook someone in football. They also depend a lot on offer sheets when they evaluate football players. If Bama and LSU offer a guy in his junior season, and Scout/Rivals hasn't heard of him, they will get on it after they learn about offers. Might not be scientific, but sometimes it's how it goes.Bottom line, give me all the five stars I can get, and I'll deal with any problems or guys that don't pan out later. You're probability of winning is much greater with more highly recruited guys. Yes, everyone will bring up Boise, and then you have to explain to them that the exception is not the rule. I bet on red 19 in roulette and won once too, but I wouldn't count on it.
8/3/2010 1:52:36 PM
To say that a recruiting class with an average rating of 3 stars *COULD BE* as good as a recruiting class with an average of 4.8 stars is a bit crazy ... yes, some of those 2-3 star recruits will be better than expected and some of the 4-5 star recruits will be overhyped, but as a class, you have to trust the average and expect the best classes to perform relatively close to their hype, with the assumption that the coaching is even among the two teams ... (we all know that is not always the case either) ... but for the sake of arguing the matter, you have to use that assumption.

I'd love for us to pick up Jeffrey Lark:http://baylor.scout.com/a.z?s=44&p=8&c=1&nid=4813755His favorite player is Adrian Wilson, so hopefully the staff plays up that angle
8/5/2010 5:12:27 PM
God I hope Virginia Tech beats Boise State....I'm so tired of hearing about them and how they should be in the big game and they belong blah blah blah
8/6/2010 2:31:33 AM
Pack Boozie think again bud, Boise State is going to put VT back in their rightful place. In the winless column. Cant wait to be in DC Labor day wknd for that game.
