Andy Enfield, come on down.
3/26/2013 7:42:25 PM
It just doesn't make sense. The perception, right or wrong is that Gott did a terrible job this year. That, with his huge buyout makes this seem extremely unlikely.I'd be shocked if this happened.
3/26/2013 7:44:11 PM
2nd year = Beat Duke, Beat UNC, made the dance. Sounds like a continuing success to me given our previous history. Yeah we did something special by making it to the sweet 16 last year but come on. [Edited on March 26, 2013 at 7:46 PM. Reason : .]

...or Howell, or Brown (according to Scout)
3/26/2013 7:53:33 PM
Brown got upgraded from 4* to 5* after his year at Hargraveand they mention Howell was all-conference first team, not necessarily 5*but on the flip side, Purvis was a 5* but he didn't start the last 10 games

The local perception and the perception by CBS Sports and other media members who like to troll our fanbase is that Gott did a terrible job this year. The national opinion is that Gott took a program in ruins to the Sweet 16 last year and still did as much this year at NC State as Howland did in his 10th year at UCLA after Adidas bribed the shit out of the #1 recruit to play for him.It would still be a dumb as shit move to hire him, and if their AD really wanted to bring him in I'm guessing the buyout would end that discussion but we're probably overreacting to how much anyone outside North Carolina knows about the details of our season. For instance, I had no idea Tubby was on the hot seat.[Edited on March 26, 2013 at 8:01 PM. Reason : n]
3/26/2013 7:59:52 PM
i agree with much of that, but i think the perception of Gott was a helluva lot better a year ago than it is nowsure, he took an underachieving program to the Sweet 16then he took a top-10 preseason team to 5th in the conference and a 1st "2nd" round NCAA exit
3/26/2013 8:01:55 PM
it's not that I love Gott...it's that who the hell else would State be able to hire
3/26/2013 8:35:17 PM
Gott is the coach we deserve
3/26/2013 8:39:53 PM
^^yep. I mean the man ain't perfect but he's the best thing we've had since V.Also we'd likely get a crap coach, all the players leave, and all the progress we've made over the past two years is null and void. And we go back to the deep abyss of the bottom of the ACC. [Edited on March 26, 2013 at 8:48 PM. Reason : ]

If he leaves, -$Texas credibility. UCLA wanting him (if true) should tell you dumbasses that wanted him gone all you need to know about how good he is. Also, please to god no on the flash in the pan Andy Empfield. The guy lost 10 games in his shitty ass conference and beat a perennially choking tournament team in Georgetown and a dogshit San Diego St. team. As we so perfectly showed this year, that is no large feat. Much rather have Gregggggg or Buzz Williams who have both shown excellent tourny capability year in, year out.
3/26/2013 8:58:21 PM
Buzz Williams is from Greenville.

I mean, dude was an nba shooting coach, director of player development, asst at fsu when they were good, taking a bunch of non recruited kids as far as we did.. I'm on his bandwagon[Edited on March 26, 2013 at 9:03 PM. Reason : Enfield that is]
3/26/2013 9:03:18 PM
I'm not hating on him as much as I think there are a lot of better candidates that are attainable and that have a proven track record. I love the FGCU story.
3/26/2013 9:06:10 PM
I will say that Enfield runs a very modern, pro-style offense compared to Gottfried. Pick-and-rolls galore, lots of motion to free up 3-pt shooters, great spacing & ball movement, etc. In comparison, Gott's high post offense looks awfully antiquated. And let's not even start on his defensive schemes. That said, obviously I'm happy with the job Gottfried has done recruiting. He was dealing with a lot of egos on this team. Hopefully when he gets a team full of his own guys in there, they will buy in fully and play more disciplined.

A lot of you guys just don't quite get it. Gottfried is an EXCELLENT recruiter and horrible coach but he is a a great fit for UCLA as his recruiting skills will compound with UCLA's program appeal and turn them into Kentucky west literally overnight. The one thing no one on here has realized is that Gottfried runs the classic UCLA offense which is definitely what they want to run. No other major candidate brings that to the table. Brad Stevens doesn't run a sexy program and sex is what they want at UCLA. Sex sells. You think they give a shit about defensive style drag it out and beat you up butler white boy basketball? Hell no. They want sexy dunks run the floor five star lakeshow jocks runnin wild but under control at the same time. They want to be a legal version of what the U was to football and thats Gottfrieds style. It can only work if he has much more talent than the other team and that is why he could have a lot more sucess there than he could ever have here. You guys are talking about his results at alabama and nc state as if that even applies to what he would do at ucla. LOL. This would be good for us as we could get a real basketball coach instead of a Don King type figurehead. The recent football hire has given me faith that Yow has learned the formula on how to hire a good coach.[Edited on March 26, 2013 at 9:43 PM. Reason : miami made a homerun decision. i dont know why we refused to look at midmajor coaching stars. ]
3/26/2013 9:41:40 PM
Gottfried to ucla is ridiculously improbable. Huge buyout, limited results, not a huge name, and no recent history with the school or even region. The ucla job is too big for him. They can pay to get a better candidateThough eman makes some good points. He is definitely a decent fallback option and hed certainly take the job if offered. He may even have some success. Im relatively neutral on whether we keep him. I dont see him getting it done here after the two seasons we had. I thik we COULD do better but we could certainly do a lot worse too.Bated breath time[Edited on March 26, 2013 at 9:51 PM. Reason : a]

Smart and Stevens have turned it down. I still don't see why they would pay the buyout on Gottfried, but does look like he's the main one being mentioned who would actually be interested in the job.[Edited on March 26, 2013 at 9:52 PM. Reason : link already posted]

i dunno why Smart would turn it down, its easily a top 5 coaching job...

today

Stevens is waiting for K to retire

^^ I've been scouring the internet and I can't find anywhere that says they turned down the UCLA jobenlighten me
3/26/2013 10:54:48 PM
its stuff on twitter, basically saying VCU is once again giving Smart a raise and that Stevens wants to avoid the spotlight of LA (ie, waiting for a bigger job)not saying either is true, but as far as "internet rumors", neither of them are interested
3/26/2013 11:01:35 PM

Just a few days ago there were reports that Stevens called UCLA inquiring into the job, and now various twitter posts say he doesn't like the prospects of living in LA. I'm sure the twitter reports are just Butler sports writers that don't want him to go, haha. They might go after Gottfried, but the message board posts I've read from UCLA fans seem to think that's a terrible idea and they don't support it. They want a high-profile coach, and if not then at least "new blood" instead of past UCLA guys.
