I think a few were listed...Here's what a quick google search gave me:http://blog.epicedits.com/2007/11/07/87-great-photography-blogs-and-feeds/I don't frequent photo blogs because everyone seems to have their own idea of what they consider a good photo. To each their own.

Woodfoot, that is an awesome moment you got in that last photo. I like the composition. The light kinda sucks, but there isn't much you could have done about that.Great shot.
12/10/2008 9:52:16 AM
Yeah, that Santa shot is nuts.
12/10/2008 9:55:00 AM
i could have walked around the crowd and gotten him with the sun facing himbut the crowd was crazy and my friend wasn't even watching the dancing santa, so i'm sure she wouldn't have waited for me to fight through the crowd for another couple shots...

I think this was brought up a few posts ago. HD Backup on the fly. Saw this product in my RSS feed and thought I'd pass it on.http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/10/nexto-nd-2725-video-backup-has-sean-penn-met-his-match/

^ whats special about that one? seems pretty much the same as all the rest?
12/10/2008 12:22:15 PM
Probably is just like the others, I just happened to see it and posted it. I have no experience with it, so I have no clue if it's really anything special.

I'd be up for a photowalk -- never done one before. Might want to wait until after exams though.

Just found out that there's a huge defect in the new Canon 5d mkii's. Image quality suffers from an odd black pixel formed in the highlighted spots of small light sources if you are shooting ISO200 and above. It's all over FM, POTN, and Dpreview.http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=609860http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1032&message=30222755http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=80676&page=1http://www.usa.canon.com/uploadedimages/FCK/Image/REVERIE%20Still%20Photos/Vincent_Laforet_5D_MKII_MG_0403.jpgThe fix should come in an updated firmware, but Canon hasn't said when or if there's even a fix in the works, but it's assumed.

haha canon loses!/nikon lover
12/10/2008 10:33:37 PM
damn those marketing boys at the Canon Booth at the PDN show. They were so smug, now look what happened. Jinxed themselves...I so want to switch and get a pair of D700's. mmmmmmm
12/10/2008 10:37:48 PM

12/10/2008 10:39:06 PM

Me too.

after reading a lot of the user-made threads, it seems like it is something that should be easy to fix with firmware update[Edited on December 10, 2008 at 11:58 PM. Reason : zzz]

I wonder how many people are gonna order that lens off slickdeals and then be pissed when the realize it's not going to autofocus with their D40/40x/60.
12/11/2008 7:07:17 AM
I can't really figure it out but would you be able to set up say a D40 to do time lapse shots, maybe one every 30 seconds for 6 hours?
12/11/2008 7:55:16 AM
You mean like an intervalometer?Here's one:https://www.pclix.com/pages/pclix_main.html[Edited on December 11, 2008 at 7:58 AM. Reason : ]

Camera was just delivered! Now my dumbass forgot to order a CompactFlash card online, so I need to find one retail before I get home.I can probably live with a 2GB card for the time being, how important is the MB/sec spec? I would guess it to be more important for Continous shooting mode, and not as important otherwise.[Edited on December 11, 2008 at 9:50 AM. Reason : ]

I picked up some 4GB CF cards on the last woot-off for around $13 each. Today happens to be a woot-off day, so maybe you'll get lucky if you keep your eyes on it.

My mother doesn't understand photography. She says things like 'well, just email me some high DPI pictures tonight to [something, details, blahblahblah]'Whenever I try to explain even just some basics like aperture and exposure, she stops me, tells me i'm confusing her, and to not botherShe refuses to acknowledge that there are just some situations where she can't take the pictures she wants with the camera she has.She will crop (well, used to, with her old camera) pictures from a 1.3MP camera down to a third of their original size, print them at 8x10, and bitch about how shitty the camera must be, because the pictures look like shit. She thinks she should be able to take pictures as fast as her camera is able, all the timeI'm trying to give her 'instructions' (per her request) for how to use my D50 (she's got a canon S5) in a low-light situation tonight, and she keeps saying JUST PUT IT ON AUTO AND GIVE ME DIRECTIONS. Oh, by the way, will it automatically adjust for telephoto? When things don't work how she wants them to, she gets very impatient, and frustrated, very quickly, and lashes out at anyone who tries to help her or explain.I already told her 'look, I feel like shit and I can't go tonight' before I Started thinking about this, and the more I vent about this, the happier I am that I feel so terrible. Dreadful event + bad music + unknown conditions + uppity parents + my mom being an asshole? No.[Edited on December 11, 2008 at 3:01 PM. Reason : lkjd]
12/11/2008 2:58:27 PM
parents just don't understand
12/11/2008 3:04:12 PM
Sucks -- I know my parents would do their best to sit down and understand...at least my mom.My dad, on the other hand, explained a good deal of basic photography to me. He still uses an Olympus OM2 SLR from the '80s for some of his architecture photos.
12/11/2008 3:30:26 PM
It's hard to explain anything to people who are used to P&S cameras. I think it's because they get lazy and just want to take a picture instead of doing any leg work like paying attention to focusing, lighting, background, etc. I use my P&S for vacation or just quick random pictures but if I want crisp pictures that I can print, crop, orwhatever I use my DSLR. I wish I started taking pictures with film though first. My best advice came from those that started with film. They understood patience and being meticulous in setting their shots. Unlike me who takes 100+ shots of my daughter playing in the yard.
12/11/2008 4:02:34 PM
I can't tell you how many people come in to print pictures and get shit because they're doing things their camera just cannot do and then blame it on the lab. Or people who you tell to check their crop zone because different sizes may cut off some information and they still want to know why the head was cut off of some people. It's like they expect the picture to expand into the right ratio for the size they want. And forget explaining it, most people just don't get it.

my digital reb has spit out a memory card with junked file data/folders/namesany way to restore this?the photos still display when i put the card back in the rebel, and i've put in another card and taken more photos that are working on the computeri've been looking for an excuse to update this 5-year old beast, but i'd really rather not be without a camera while i build a savings nest egg for something new...

http://shopdigitaldirect.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=64_760_1211&products_id=4162As far as I can tell the cameras seem to be about $100 to $200 less than anywhere else but any of the accessories seem to be crazy expensive.Seems like a pretty good deal for just the body+lens.

tonight is a wonderful night to take pictures of the moon - my grandfather said its the closest to the earth as it will be in 10 years - I went out with my new D40 and the 55-200 lens HOPING I could get a good picture, but I guess not - any suggestions?
12/12/2008 7:47:13 PM
tripod, wireless remote, and a little hope
12/12/2008 8:51:24 PM
tripod, remote, mirror lock up.manual mode because you're gonna want to under expose what the camera is metering for the overall scene.
12/12/2008 9:06:35 PM
mirror lock---what? how and why??
12/12/2008 9:11:41 PM
to reduce vibration
12/12/2008 9:14:23 PM
ah, will there be a lot of vibration with a tripod and remote though?
12/12/2008 9:25:07 PM

12/12/2008 9:30:21 PM
D40 doesnt have mirror lock up I don't even think a tripod would help, honestly - all I see is a big ball of light, no details whatsoever
12/12/2008 9:54:54 PM
Sounds over exposed. Want to show your example and what settings you used?
12/12/2008 10:07:39 PM
i just tried to take a few pictures of the moon, but i've never really done anything like it before. they aren't very good
