I have a buddy who is a lawyer for local government, left leaning independent. I say that not to give him credibility but to show you how people with advanced degrees still subscribe to the wildest conspiracy theories. He thinks that this was done just to give the government an excuse to vaccinate everyone and sneak some sort of extras into the vaccine for population control.

I also have a friend who is a software engineer who doesn't understand how mutations are random and thinks that the virus WILL mutate in a way that makes it deadly to all people, the government knows this and is intentionally not telling us.

Yea I've gotten into it with a number of family members and friends from back East whose heads are stuck so far up the Donald's ass they can't see the light of day. They are all upset about this over "just a cold" and how the flu is so much worse. When I showed them the stats how if the same number of people in the US got COVID-19 as did influenza (35.5 million last year) with the current mortality rate, that could mean 1.2 million people dead. One of them was a younger cousin mad about losing hours at work whose grandparents are still alive and my grand aunt and uncle. I reminded him that the mortality rate for his grandparents age bracket is 20-25% right now. He didn't respond after that.

China knows how to do it because their animal markets and traditional Chinese medicine BS repeatedly unleash these zoonotic pandemics upon the world. Then, because of their authoritative system of government, they just lock it down (after the token cover-up) and threaten to, or actually do arrest people for leaving their dwellings. Good opportunity for police to exercise their brutality. Not so easy to do in a large democratic society that expects freedom of movement. Let's not pretend that locking down city-states like Hong Kong, Macau, and Singapore is not easier than locking down the entire United States, both practically and behaviorally. Let's not also hold up China as an example of effective crisis management. They CREATED the crisis and let it fester and escape to the world before finally getting serious and then doing another PR stunt for the regime to build a hospital in world record time. How about their old hotel (completed in 2018) housing those on quarantine which collapsed without obvious cause and killed people who likely would have recovered? If we had even a slightly less inept person in the White House, response would be degrees of magnitude better. Glad you are safe and in a place that was able to manage it effectively, but you can stop armchair quarterbacking now.

Saw a Facebook post from one of somebody selling essential oils (I assume MLM). It was 5 tips to fight against the coronavirus. Apparently you gotta get the essential oil called “on guard” that kills viruses and bacteria. It’s an anti viral oil. Just rub it on your skin and it’ll be absorbed into the bloodstream and immediately start killing the bad stuff. Or use it in a diffuser and it’ll kill all germs in the air.

Also saw “coronavirus isnt going to take anyone out of the world unless it’s the Lords plan and there’s nothing you can do to stop the Lords plan”

I know this isn’t news or anything but holy shit people are dumb.
