Which tournament did we win because we got fouled on a 3-point attempt at the buzzer? Was that Old Spice?
11/24/2017 8:12:06 PM
Yeah old spice I think
11/24/2017 8:25:36 PM
+10 for making adjustments in the middle of a half that actually work
11/29/2017 9:14:57 PM
im so glad dorn fouled out
11/29/2017 9:19:15 PM
He's drawn a shitty hand personnel wise but is making the best out of it. Just avoid the NC State Shit loss to Northwestern Greenville State and we good
11/29/2017 9:33:41 PM
Yurt is 54* and Markell and Abu (who didn't play tonight) are 4*, correct? I could be wrong. But let's not act like he has zero talent.Good win. It's weird, even when we were down 11-0 tonight, and when we've been down double digits to Presbyterian and some other scrub team (VMI?) I never felt like we were out of it. We might hit a wall later in the year from all the running, but I am loving his style and no-quit attitude.[Edited on November 29, 2017 at 10:16 PM. Reason : Rowan was a 4 star recruit. and you people trust recruiting rankings]

11/29/2017 10:17:19 PM
No one expected Yurt to be this after seeing him last year. But being in an actual offense obviously helps him. He is very, very talented.
11/29/2017 10:17:32 PM
Abu has barely been available this year (and sucked when he was), plus he's always been one of those guys who looks better than he plays.Markell has talent but also has some pretty big flaws. The personnel issues I was referring to in that post arent even talented related though, they're roster related. He has a solid bigs core this season (provided Abu ever gets healthy), but they're all gone next year and we'll be playing freshmen and a guy kicked off Ohio State's team that think he's a small forward.Meanwhile this year the guard spots are all over the place and our wings are guys from NC A&T and UNC Charlotte. I'm sure at least one of the Beverly/Markell/Batts combo will end up being a good player for him but right now they're unreliable. Barring another big time offseason in the Grad Transfer market, I don't see us having a complete roster until at least year 3, maybe not until year 4. It's a bummer because I'm excited to see what Keatts could do with one
11/29/2017 10:29:52 PM
good win last night. was gonna say "welp" after being down 11-0 to start, but we hung in there, made adjustments, and KK led us to victor. can't be down 11-0 to the big boys, however, so I'm not fully convinced.credibility: +.68
11/30/2017 11:31:51 AM
Abu hurt his knee and has been on his ass the last few months. It's going to take time for him to find his groove.
11/30/2017 11:33:33 AM
FEELIN THAT NIT FEVER!(That's a good thing for year 1)
11/30/2017 2:59:26 PM
^^^^ an assessment on this year's talent and you don't mention either Freeman or Yurt, and act like Abu ain't good when healthy?Totally credible.[Edited on November 30, 2017 at 3:25 PM. Reason : And your posts were about this season, not next.]
11/30/2017 3:21:59 PM
We have issues at guard/wing this year and will have issues down low next season, and maybe still at guard. Not complicatedA Freeman (and L Freeman) are fine players, but I would say you don't have personnel problems when they're competing to be a starter, like A Freeman was at Baylor, not when they're competing to be the best player on the team
11/30/2017 6:11:15 PM
We don't really have perimeter players that can create offense in the half court. Our best bet is probably Beverly running pick and roll with Yurt. Really gonna have to lean on defense creating turnovers that lead to run-outs.
11/30/2017 6:40:47 PM
Markell can create he is just young and will turn the corner eventually. That might not be until next year though.

Lennard isnt a great talent. He's a 5th year senior who grinded his way to the top. Does all the little things to make other guys better and does very few stupid things that hurts the team. You need those guys, and I'm a big fan of em, but a team full of them is going to have a ceiling. Regardless, I hope we sneak back into the Tourney this year, because he deserves it.I dunno what to tell you about your assumption that I was talking solely about this years team in one post. Sorry that I don't write you a novel explaining every single thought going through my head?
12/1/2017 9:56:24 PM
Richard Howell II
12/1/2017 9:59:05 PM
A 5th year senior? He could barely play the last 1.5 years...Is Luke maye talented?
12/2/2017 12:00:39 AM
he was injured but there are still things where being older and more mature are beneficial for. do you think it's a coincidence he went from dwight howard on the free throw line to a guy who is almost automatic after a year off? you can still lift weights when you have a leg injury, etc.markell is a guy who would benefit from a year off. he's barely 19 and you can see it on the court eventhough he's a sophomore. lennard iirc was young for his class too^^howell came in with more raw talent although they might be equally valuable as seniors given that lennard does more defensively/with screens
12/2/2017 12:31:28 AM
can we get mambagrl to run the numbers on the ACC's Relative Basketball Talent?I'll get us started with our roster:5th YR: 4* SG (69 Overall), 3* PF (316), 0* SG (NR - Note: is our starting SG)4th YR: 4* PF (46 - Call me when he's healthy and I'll count him), 3* SG (386 - Note: is our starting Power Forward)JR: 3* SF (175)SO: 4* PG (58), 4* C (55), 3* PF (198) - Out for the yearFR: 4* PG (98), 3* PG (322 - Note: Has played the most minutes at PG since becoming eligible)That's four guys in the 300s or lower playing starter minutes, half of which (along with the fifth, who again lost his starting job at Baylor) are dudes Keatts had to scrape together himself on short notice. And none of these deep cut recruits are above average shooters for their position, which is where you see some coaches make up a gap. I'm trying to think of a less talented group we've had going back to Lowe and am coming up blank. The Javi (246)/Degand (2/3* NR)/Mays (148) mess at point guard was worse, but they were surrounded by upper end 4*s and Wood, who was a top 150 guy, not 350+ mid major talent. It's worth noting that we've been one of the biggest underachievers in basketball talent-wise the past 15ish years, so I expect this roster stacks up pretty well compared to the dregs of the conference like BC, but I don't think it's going to look all that good against the upper half of the ACC or even the Syracuse/FSU/VT tier. Maybe not even the Wake/Clemson tier when you consider that at least their coach recruited the guys they have for their system. The team we run out there is honestly not significantly different from Keatts' last roster at UNCW. Sam Hunt and Ambrose Mosley are identical players. Cacok and Yurt are not, but impact wise are probably similar. You even have the obligatory UNC Charlotte transfer. The only difference is Wilmington's wing rotation had two great drivers that also jacked up a ton of threes and made a fair number of them, whereas we have Al Freeman shooting 24% from downtown because he's trying to do the job of three people while playing the entire game on a team that full court presses. Just to be clear, it's not good that the only reason I'd take our current roster over one from the CAA is that we have two (maybe three if he ever gets healthy) good bigs instead of one.All I'm trying say is Keatts didn't walk into an easy situation. It's not a complete rebuild by any means, but compare it to the last coaching transition. Gott was handed a loaded roster where all he did was pick up a Canadian whose best skill was pump fakes to be his sixth man and he was set. I mean, he had to figure out how to get a couple headcases to play smarter, but I feel like that's an easier draw than trying to make Braxton Beverly and his T-Rex arms not get his shot blocked.

Jeez, wait until the end of January to make that call. NC State tends to have at least one lost to a mid major school the last several seasons so this game is following a trend. Hopefully this lost is a wakeup call to the staff and players as the ACC is around the corner and games will only get tougher.[Edited on December 16, 2017 at 2:26 PM. Reason : edit]

Warm Seat for Coach Keat
12/16/2017 4:12:20 PM
Agreed. If we don't at LEAST finish top half of the conference, 1 year should be a good enough sample size to FIRE THE COACH. Or maybe just simply get the RECRUITS HYPED by changing our swag to NIKE PRODUCTS.#HOOPS
12/16/2017 4:24:51 PM
It's a strange offensive gameplan. Freeman, Yurt and Abu were scoring almost at will and drawing fouls and we stop going to them. And Al Freeman..... I don't know
12/16/2017 5:22:15 PM
Al freeman is a mercenary and he plays like it. Me, me, me. Getting tape for pro leagues overseas...wins be damned
12/16/2017 8:25:26 PM
Actually, I think Keatts wants him to shoot/drive because no one else will. Well Beverly will, but he's worse.
12/16/2017 8:28:58 PM
Hopefully rumors wont get out about Coach Kreeps
12/16/2017 8:33:00 PM
Really bad in game coaching by Keatts today. Our big men are our only good players and after getting up big UNCG switched to a simple zone and we never got the ball to our big men again. Our perimter offense is terrible and we were content to jack up threes. Also, -20 credibility for being the 3rd ACC school to ever lose to UNCG.

I'm not counting this game. The random bullshit win against Duke happens under every coach to the point where more than one of us predicted it. Don't lose the next game and I'll increase the credibility.

+1 credibility
1/6/2018 11:51:11 PM
^^i get the sentiment. But the next game is against a top 25 team. Not like we’ve got scrub ass Pitt next. We might be underdogs vs Clemson. Hard to fault a coach for not winning back to back games against top 25 competition.

It can be simultaneously true that the staff and players deserve a lotta credit for this win and also true that we need to see more consistency out of the team and continue progressing forward. In all, this is still (and always was) a rebuilding year. Expectations for this year were always pretty low or non-existent. Enjoy this win for what it was. Last year’s win at Cameron was different. That team was supposed to compete at a very high level and had high expectations. The win at Duke was a sign of the team finally breaking through and playing to its potential. This team has virtually no expectations. This win, while fun and wonderful and so exciting, should not be viewed in the same context of the team finally reaching its potential. This team’s fate and expectations probably shouldn’t change much with this win. The “we’re gonna lose every game by 20” after the ND loss was an overreaction. And moving goalposts after this win would also be an overreaction imo. [Edited on January 7, 2018 at 9:57 AM. Reason : A]

^ Exactly, you don't beat a team as talented as Duke without playing hard and playing together. AND to me the goal for this year is to play consistently hard and together
1/7/2018 4:34:57 PM
I already said that elsewhere. That's why these first 2 years, anyone trying to glean anything from these big wins is wasting their time, until he's beating two meh ACC teams in a row.NIT would be a huge pleasant surprise.
