Honestly couldn't care less what people do in terms of protesting, standing, kneeling, whatever.

I'm just tired of the media/news just going on and on about it honestly. Give me highlights and game breakdowns, not the latest tweet about one side being upset at the other side. If I wanted bullshit I'd watch Fox News.

i'm surely in the minority here but my scorching hot take is that i wouldnt care if they quit playing the anthem at games altogether.

that's not out of some personal protest. it adds nothing to my sporting event experience. maybe i'm a shitty american, idk.

First, the commentators during the game do a good job of rarely talking about it...at least compared to what you're getting on news sites.

Second...get your NFL highlights from nfl.com. They're extensive and they're just the highlights. ESPN sucks for highlights. They show like two or three good plays and they only focus on the star players.

^^ that’s the best course of action and not a hot take at all, ha

there’s no reason to play it for non-international games

Sure, but can you imagine the 'MURICA! crowd's reaction if they stopped playing it? They are running a business, so that idea is a non-starter.

More in the realm of possibility, what will the NFL do if to teams keep choosing to sit the anthem out, off the field, like they did prior to 2009 when the NFL mandated their presence on the sidelines during it?

yeah it's never gonna happen. because the outrage would be incredible. but i could totally see the nfl going back to having the players in the locker room.

it’d be a classic case of short term loss for long term gain/benefit

I also think that there wouldn’t be much outrage over it. jingoism has gotten a bit out of hand.

also, only those in the stands would have a say, as all of the leagues get a vast majority of their revenue from things other than ticket sales

No.

Any team can sign a player off of another teams practice squad, but they have to be added to their active roster.

[Edited on September 26, 2017 at 9:57 PM. Reason : As in, you can't sign a player from another practice squad to your practice squad.]

They have to pay him for at minimum 3 weeks, I believe. To dissuade teams from picking up someone for one week from the team they're about to play.

Really? There's already plenty of outrage over these player protests, enough for some idiots to stop watching all together. It's already all over the news and social media. You think if the NFL reacted by completely pulling the anthem, THAT wouldn't prompt further, and worse outrage?

^^^ ratings were up this last weekend

anything to quell jingoism is a good thing, outraged idiots be damned (and there aren’t really THAT many people who are truly outraged. they’re the same people who will be OUTRAGED at the next thing that’ll make them forget
about being mad at the NFL)

Patriots aren't championship caliber this year, but I don't care, winning in that building will always be impressive as long as Belichick and Brady are there. Great showing by the offense (finally).

same people outraged about players kneeling during the anthem because they don't respect the flag are the ones upset about taking down statues of people who fought against that flag.

Butker, who Kansas City picked up since their kicker, Santos, was injured, just missed his first and only FG attempt of the season. Meanwhile, Gano is doing well.

He's not wrong, though. It is a little out-of-the-ordinary to have someone like Jourdan who actually knows her X's and O's, rather than some reporter who was hired partially because she looks pretty on TV, ask a question about route running. Maybe he was complimenting her for not being a vapid idiot.

he's very wrong and there is no excuse for it

there are plenty of men in that industry who are vapid idiots. there are also plenty of women who have been reporters for decades.

"After the news conference, Rodrigue wanted to find Newton and talk about what he said. She did catch up with him briefly. The conversation, according to Rodrigue, was not taped but went something like this:

She asked the quarterback if he really didn’t think a female could understand routes.

Newton said she wasn’t really seeing specific routes when watching the game, she was just seeing if somebody was open. She argued that he didn’t know what she saw nor how hard she had studied football, and that maybe the two of them needed to have a deeper conversation.

Newton said that maybe he should have said it was funny to hear “reporters” talk about routes and that, if she actually did know about them, then she knew more than most reporters. Then he gestured toward the locker room, still filled with her colleagues.

Rodrigue ended by asking Newton – whom she had introduced herself to on the first day of her employment with The Observer in October 2016 – if he knew her name after she had covered the team almost every day for the past year.

Newton said he did not.

“Jourdan Rodrigue, Charlotte Observer,” she said, and then walked away."

Hindsight is 50/50

Also, "reporters" have been shitting on him his entire career, much of it unfairly. It's pretty impressive how cordial he usually is with them given that.

People have hated Cam for no reason his whole career, and now he gave them a reason to.

It was a shitty thing to say, and he's going to get so much more crap from this than any other QB would for saying the exact same thing. He could have the best game of his career this week, but the quote will be all anyone will want to talk about, while the sporting world loves Ezekiel Elliot on mediocre days and is willing to ignore his far worse treatment of a woman.

him not even knowing her name gets to the heart of this story

it’s obvious that he thinks less of her because she’s a woman. that’s awful, and it’s sad that you’re attempting to defend him
