Tonight I watched last year's game to wrap up FSU week. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aP_YPOd9d8Holy shit Boone choked that one so badly, I remember the dropped pick but I didn't remember all of the circumstances.-he gave up a td on a cross the field hanging throw on the next play. both should have been picked off honestly-Francious is so awful-FSU play calling is awful (you have cook and throw back to back on first and 10. It should have been 3rd and 10 at best, two picks at worst, and they ended up scoring....nc state shit. We dominated the whole game but had 3 busted coverage plays that cost us a lot. Still impressive that we dominated two (maybe 3) of the most talented teams in the nation. That sort of consistency suggests we were actually good and not a fluke. Next week, we revisit our series with Clemson. Stay tuned...

no we were horrible, that game was never close, only wins matter; we should have disbanded the program due to an embarassment of a coachright packboozie ? President of Vince Lombardi U ]

We did not dominate Clemson. Clemson played its worst game of the season against us and still won because we have no kicker and our coach botched the end of half and the end of game management badly. Nobody talks about DD not melting the clock on our last possession of the first half to give Clemson less time which they promptly went down and scored a TD with 20 some odd seconds I believe. Watson threw the worst pass of his career and Mike Williams carelessly fumbled the ball feet shy of the goal line and Clemson also went 4 and out inside our 5 which I doubt happened to them the rest of the season. Had NCSU had a calamity of errors and nonchalant attitude that Clemson had, it would not have been close, and we did have the nonchalant attitude the next week at Lousiville and got skull dragged. Knocking Wayne Gallman out and Renfrow being in his first game did not hurt NCSU (See Renfrow vs Bama, either year). The Clemson game was the first signature win served up to DD and he pretty much sent it back. [Edited on August 7, 2017 at 4:08 PM. Reason : .]

i think you're not giving our defense enough credit for forcing turnovers and getting stops. clemson didn't play great, but it wasn't their worst game of the year either...but yeah that game's been beaten to death there's really little to gain by re-hashing it.
8/7/2017 5:20:03 PM
If Earl is just gonna sit here revisiting crushing losses, can we suspend him again?
8/7/2017 5:38:11 PM
I mean, Clemson's DL said NC State was the best OL they faced all year, including Alabama. We actually did dominate the trenches in that game, thus why it was so close. Watson looked bad because we pressured him, yeah we knocked Gallman out but honestly I thought he was extremely overrated and a product of the offense(see: Hood). We got smacked around by Louisville because most teams early in the season were getting skull-fucked by UL at home. Look at what they did to FSU last year, they beat the living shit out of them. Teams figured out how to pressure Jackson later in the season(blitz instead of playing running lanes) and that offense fell apart. This year will be interesting to see if they adjust. We had multiple opportunities to beat Clemson(2 missed kicks, 1 blocked kick on an awful low kick) and we didn't exactly play "lights out". It would be one thing if we played our best and still lost, we had multiple turnovers, missed plays/kicks, etc. Yeah we botched the chance to win, but Doeren did everything he could to put us in position to win. He can't go out there and kick the damn FG for us. Get over a crushing defeat, we finished the season strong and beat some good teams. We were 1 play from beating Clemson and FSU, so it just proves we have the talent to compete with those guys. If our secondary isn't complete trash and our running game doesn't disappear without Dayes, we should be competing with those guys again this year.[Edited on August 8, 2017 at 11:34 AM. Reason : .]

^The same Matt Dayes who had touched the ball 10 out of the last 12 plays? Dayes was gassed, did you really want us switching it up and handing Gallespy the ball? Did you want to try and give it to Samuels on an end-around against one of the best DL in football? Do you think a run up the middle against a loaded box with an exhausted RB with over 20+ touches on the game is going to be super effective? Let's not act like our OL wasn't a bit gassed too, we weren't just breaking off long run after long run. If Doeren calls a running play and we fumble the ball and lose then everyone calls for his head and calls him and idiot for not kicking the FG. If Doeren calls a passing play and we turn it over and lose then everyone points to the Seahawks SB and calls him an idiot for not kicking the FG. He took the conservative approach and plays the odds and we lost. I can live with that, because if I was a coach I'd have asked my kicker where he wanted the ball and told my QB to get the ball there(which we did), and I've have sent my kicker out there. The week before we beat ND 10-7, largely because of McClendon and Bambard. Doeren made the safe call and it backfired because his player choked. I'd say 90% of college coaches make the exact same call he did, I see NFL teams do that shit every Sunday. Hopefully with Wise this year and Dunn coming in next year that we'll be able to send our kicker out with confidence.
8/8/2017 4:00:23 PM
Up to that point, Bambard had missed one attempt during the Notre Dame game, and earlier against Clemson had a 43 yard try hit the upright, and had another attempt blocked.I don't see a problem with taking at 33-yard attempt from straight away without being in a rush when teh alternative is risking something going wrong, getting stuck over on a hashmark, or whatever else in order to attempt from five yards closer?
8/8/2017 4:23:06 PM
Bambard shouldn't have been playing in the first place, but that's not of my business. He obviously doesn't have the mental toughness required to be a kicker. It's not ever gonna happen. Dude can ball out in practice all day and will always suck a fat one come game time.
8/8/2017 5:31:22 PM
Before that kick, not counting ND, Bambard was 7/11 from 30-39, not a great percentage. Compare that to Dayes fumble rate. I wish college had good "expected points" metrics lie NFL. I would bet advanced stats would say to try to get a TD with some low risk runs. The bigger point is though, you don't beat the top teams being conservative all the fucking time. DDs seat was pretty warm last year, don't leave it to you shit kicker if you don't have too. I frankly couldn't believe that after 1.5 years of shit bambard people were excited for him to line up at the 23....
8/8/2017 5:31:27 PM
He missed the most important chip shot of his career and cost us the game against the eventual national champion

Doeren (or at least Drinkwitz) actually did try for a touchdown. The play before the field goal, we ran a play action boot that very nearly got blown up for a big loss but Finley made one guy miss and dove forward for a loss of only four. After that we ran the clock down and tried the field goal.

8/10/2017 10:29:41 AM
yeah that seems to be the prevailing thought from most State fans....we're pretty talented, veteran, and deep, but it's gonna be tough to be much better than 8-4. but...8-4 (5-3) or something like that could certainly make us a top 25 team.
8/10/2017 10:34:22 AM
We just need Lamar Jackson to get hurt. In order to have a "special" season...we need to take 2 of 3 from Clemson/FSU/Louisville.I think Louisville lost a lot from last year (or at least I think I read that somewhere)....but that dude is still probably going to roll up like 1,000 yard on us...Woody Dantzler-style.

Not really worried about our DL right now. Still think we land at least 2 more DL in this year's class. We'll lack experience next year, but not talent.

Anything new on Mike Stevens, this would be a really big loss even if for only 6 weeks. Have been searching the web but not seeing anything about it.

this season will still end well for us. foh with the pessimism.hate to see this. those 2 (brown, thompson) were made known a couple weeks ago, the reasoning is obviously news. so i guess the three suspensions are for an unnamed amount of time? like, they're still on the team? dismissal, i believe, means they are off the the team and off scholarship (maybe out of school too?).i guess if there's a silver lining, sexual assault is the type of thing we've seen other schools try to cover up or drag their feet to report/investigate/discipline, so i guess the staff/admin/whoever maybe deserve some credit for doing the right thing in an apparently timely manner.article and headlines are very misleading (WRALSportsfan is better than the CBS affiliate article i read). so i guess the 5 players were present for a party where sexual assault allegedly occurred. but none of the 5 are tied to it.this is the first article i read
8/22/2017 2:37:01 PM
I wonder what Brown and Thompson did to get dismissed compared to the other three who were only suspended.
