I like how such a reasonable criticism like:

"Critique individuals who do bad things, not an entire country/institution"

Triggers all of you SJWs so much.

I get triggered when I am not trying to trigger SJWs but they end up getting triggered anyway. Then I get triggered that I triggered them because if I really wanted to trigger them I would have triggered harder.

Apparently Kaepernick's legal team is going to try to subpeona Trump for his alleged involvement in colluding with NFL owners to keep Kaepernick out of the league.

It seems that Kaepernick has won in the sense that :
He elevated this issue
He gained the support of many
Though funemployed, he is still the face of Nikes campaign
Though being largely silent, his message is being broadcast loudly
Racists are being outed

It seems that Kaepernick has lost in the sense that:
He's being kept from the game that he loves during the prime of his career
Some of his message is being drowned out by "flag controversy" or faux patriotism

The NFL is only losing:
People on both sides of the debate are tuning out
Horrible publicity
Upset players
Division in the league
The NFL is faced with the hypocrisy of being more upset with peaceful protests than women beaters, CTE, etc...
The issue is NOT going away

while i think there is some truth to his message being drowned out by faux patriotism and "respect the troops" talk...i feel like a lotta that is redirection and/or willful ignorance on the part of a lot of folks. like...anybody who has paid an ounce of attention knows the kneeling isn't about the flag or the troops. if you've paid any attention you know that these players have voiced their concerns along with kneeling. you know that a lotta these players are contributing money and time to these causes in addition to kneeling. so all the common refrains of "respect the troops", "protest on your own time", "donate your millions instead of kneeling", etc are all easily debunked. i guess my point is...if people are still falling back on these tropes it's because they are intentionally not paying attention and were never gonna agree with Kaep no matter what. so i'm not sure his message is being drowned out...it's just being willfully and intentionally ignored in the name "patriotism".

He's being kept from the game because he fell off. His success only came from playing a read option offense, and once defenses adjusted to that he looked horrible. The 49ers had to adjust their passing game midseason to eliminate passes beyond 10 yards, because Kaepernick couldn't make them without staring down the receiver from the snap. No team was going to take on his $14.5 million a year for that kind of performance.

Kaepernick likely could have kept his mouth shut and ended up as a third string QB somewhere making less than a million a year, but he managed to pull a Nike contract that's worth several million a year instead. It was a smart business move on his part.

Your post starts with saying he isn't in the NFL bc he isn't good and ends saying he isn't in the NFL bc he can't keep his mouth shut, which is the point of the post you quoted.

do you not understand the difference between being good enough to be a starting quarterback in the NFL with a $14.5 million contract and being good enough to barely make over league minimum and ride the bench for 1-2 more years before you completely wash out of the league? If Kaepernick would have been content with third string bench money, he wouldn't have sabotaged his interview with the Ravens.

^^^the difference is irrelevant? The post said he isn't able to be in the NFL, not that he isn't able to be a superstar. He isn't a superstar bc he fell off a little, he isn't in the NFL bc he is outspoken.

If you don’t think Kaepernick is better than Nathan Peterman (an NFL starter) then I won’t be able to take anything you say about Kaepernick belonging (or not belonging) in the NFL seriously.

Explain to us dullards how Kaepernick would have any knowledge of Nike's ad offer, a couple of years ago when he started his protests.

not Nike per se, but Kaepernick was smart enough to realize that plastering his name across a social justice issue would lead to opportunities with speaking events and endorsements. I never thought it would be with a company as large as Nike, but he made it happen. Who knows; Kaepernick may have had this planned out with Nike all along, but was smart enough to know he had to slow-play it so that he came off as genuine and not just out for the money.

Yeah, I'm sure Kaepernick was in it for the money this whole time

What a sad world we live in where people refuse to believe that someone might be taking a stand for anything other than a paycheck. What if, and hear me out now, Kap thought to himself, "What I see in the news everyday is bullshit and no one ever does anything. I can't remain in a position of influence and stand idly by. I must make a statement because this issue is more important to me than football and money."

he didn't start protesting until he got benched in favor of Blaine Gabbert and was in danger of being cut. He was also coming off a season where his adjusted net yards per attempt was 32nd in the league and had been steadily declining the past 3 seasons.

https://www.sportingcharts.com/nfl/stats/player-adjusted-net-yards-per-attempt-statistics/2015/

He also ranked 35th in the league in Defense Adjusted Yards above replacement in 2015 among quarterbacks with over 200 pass attempts, and also got surpassed by 20 quarterbacks in this category with 10-199 pass attempts.

https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/qb2015

If he had started his protests a year earlier, when he was still a starter with subpar stats instead of abysmal stats, I'd be more inclined to believe this was genuine.

For the sake of the timeline...where was the BLM movement as a public idea and in mainstream topic while he was a starter? Maybe I’m mis-remembering but I don’t recall it being all that big when he was a starter. So, yeah he could have protested before BLM was a strong movement...but if his protests coincided with its rise then I think it’s BS to claim he 1) used it as an excuse for being benched/not given a chance or 2) he used it to “cash in” on BLM.

I mean I think those things are BS anyways, but if the time line doesn’t match up then they are extra BS.

those "cherrypicked" stats are considered the gold standard for evaluating quarterbacks, and both stats were trending downward steadily over the previous 3 years. His 2016 ANY/A was slightly better than 2015, yet still well below league average.

His 2016 DYAR was 29th among quarterbacks with over 200 pass attempts, and an additional 25 quarterback with only 10-199 pass attempts scored better than Kaepernick.

Also, Kaepernick had already lost his starting position to Blaine Gabbert before deciding to get surgery on his non-throwing shoulder. The injury didn't shorten his time as starter, and a non-throwing shoulder injury shouldn't have caused bottom of the barrel performance.

This whole argument is dumb and pointless bc eleusis admitted in his first post that Kaep would be in the NFL if he would "shut his mouth"

But bc I'm a glutton for punishment, Bill Barnwell makes the Kaep argument far better than any of us at the bottom of this column:

^^^ that certainly is a stat that is used to evaluate quarterbacks

there are lots of other stats to use when evaluating a quarterback. it’s very dumb to use only one stat when attempting to argue for or against a player. it’s an obvious tactic used to sound like you know what you’re talking about/trick people into thinking you’re an expert. that isn’t gonna work here.
