Where can I read up on Bernie's proposed budget for supporting all the programs he is proposing? I'm a scrub when it comes to political knowledge but I can't see how the things he is promising ($15 minimum wage, wipe of college debt, increased healthcare reform) will work.

I don't think he's proposed wiping out student debt, but perhaps I missed it.

Thanks for the link.

He isn't proposing to "wipe student debt" per my last post. From his website, he "proposed making public colleges and universities tuition-free and substantially reducing student debt, in a plan that would cost about $75 billion a year" by "imposing a tax on Wall Street speculators that would generate about $300 billion in revenue."

It's interesting to note that the $15 minimum wage isn't mentioned as a proposed plan on that website.

Because those countries are clearly a direct comparison to the US. Nope, no sir, no differences there. Let's just lift and shift.

but we won't accept the idea that the U.S. inherently can't accomplish great things that several countries have accomplished simply because we are the u.s.. In fact, we've been indoctrinated to believe just the opposite. Not only do we believe we can do the great things advanced nations are doing, we believe we can do them BETTER.

i'm not sure what role the government is supposed to play in paying for increased wages unless you are expecting the government to subsidize the increase. i'd have to google the numbers but increasing it for federal employees/contractors seems like it wouldn't be a huge expense since it would apply to a pretty small percentage of expenses

BTW, Clinton is going to come out of NH with the same number if delegates as Bernie because of super delegates. Like I said a whole back, he's going to have to win about 70-30 in a lot of places to make it interesting. I think there's a decent chance she had a hard time in SC, her appeal with the working class has never been lower, but there will be a major push from the party establishment there. I won't be surprised at stories of shenanigans by local officials

You can't really look at super delegates at this point in the race. Sure, they've declared for Hilary in the vast majority but (in theory) they'll need to switch their votes when/if Bernie really gains momentum

"For instance, among voters making less than $50,000, Sanders defeated Clinton by 33 points. By contrast, Clinton won those same voters by 15 points over Obama in ’08. Sanders’ margin was only half as big – 17 points – with voters making more than $50,000, a group that Obama actually won by 5 points. Similarly, Sanders rolled up a 36-point spread among voters without college degrees, while winning college-educated voters by only 13 points. In ’08, though, it was Clinton who won voters without college degrees by 8 points, with Obama taking college graduates by 5 points.

There’s also the geography of Sanders’ win. While he claimed almost every city and town in the New Hampshire, he didn’t fare much better than Obama in many of the state’s more upscale liberal areas. In Hanover, home of Dartmouth College, Sanders ran just 281 votes ahead of Clinton, a margin of 6.5 points. Eight years ago, Obama won that same town by 32 points, a plurality of more than 1,500 votes. In the coastal city of Portsmouth, another liberal enclave, Sanders performed only modestly better (a 12-point win) than Obama (6 points)."

I don't know man, I think she's going to have a harder time than a lot of people are anticipating in the South. She's a long way from being able to talk about her Arkansas roots. Also, if the Sanders campaign people are smart they'll really push hard to get more of the black vote. Her real advantage in the South isn't her appeal to voters its the strength of the democratic machine in many of those states.

He did shockingly well in Iowa when polls up to the day before had him as a double digit dog. The guy from Vermont doing well in New Hampshire is not a surprise, how well he is doing in demos that were thought to be safe for Hillary is a surprise.

Clinton will win SC, maybe even by a wide margin as predicted, but if it's 60-40 or closer this thing will turn nasty in a hurry.

I was listening to talk radio today and the host talked about how we tend to ignore what's going on in the other party's primary bc we have our own issues to discuss. That being said, I haven't paid much attention recently to the normal democratic sites/shows I check out - so, is there any discussion amongst the other side about Mrs. Clinton piling up delegates only to have an indictment drop before the convention and then the VP swoops in to save the day? Still seems strange to me he stayed out of this primary with so few viable candidates.

Hilary's dog whistles about personal attacks on obama should be insulting to black voters. She's essentially saying "look, he disagreed with the black president, I didn't, therefore blacks should vote for me"

The same sort of logic has backfired with women.

If Hillary16 is the same as Hillary08 (which let's face it, she hasn't changed very much other than having Benghazi and the e-mail scandal on her record), then isn't Bernie this year's Obama? Maybe not the same message or platform, but the energy, inspiration, and enthusiasm he is creating.

So why does Hillary keep trying to peg herself as the natural successor? "You like Obama? Then vote for me and get 8 more years of the same!"

Are you referring to these quote?

Quote :
"There's a huge gap right now between Congress and the American people. What presidential leadership is about is closing that gap."

And when asked if he believed President Obama had closed that gap:

Quote :
"No, I don’t. I mean, I think he has made the effort. But I think what we need, when I talk about a political revolution, is bringing millions and millions of people into the political process in a way that does not exist right now."

Why should these quotes cost him the nomination?

First Nevada Poll In Weeks Shows Sanders Tied With Clinton
http://talkingpointsmemo.com/polltracker/sanders-clinton-tied-nevada?utm_content=bufferd4b12&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer
Quote :
"A Washington Free Beacon/TargetPoint Consulting poll released Friday shows between Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Sen. Bernie Sander (I-VT) in Nevada. It's the first poll conducted in the state this year.

The poll showed support for Clinton and Sanders tied at 45 percent of respondents.

This is the first poll of Democratic voters in the state by this pollster, as well as the first conducted there since December. Most previous polling showed Clinton holding a double-digit lead in the state, indicating a collapse in her support consistent with the rapid tightening of the race following Clinton’s narrow win in Iowa and substantial loss in New Hampshire.

There has been so little polling in Nevada that there is no TPM PollTracker Average for the state.

The poll was carried out from Feb. 8-10 with a population sample of 1,236 likely Democratic voters and a margin of error of 2.9 percentage points."

Sanders is closing the gap among african americans, a net 24% swing since the beginning of the month

still a large gap but it shows that ignoring Sanders or downplaying his outreach is a mistake. Among all voters overall he has already closed the gap

Trump supporters are attacking Bernie for being poor early in his life, then defying the odds and becoming the leading presidential contender.

This is somehow worse than only being rich and famous because your daddy was rich and famous...

Trump is basically the old, male Paris Hilton.

Thats simply a misleading way or sorting data. How does Bernie do amongst evangelical voters? You would have to factor that in along with the % of blacks who are evangelical before making crazy generalizations about race.

8 years ago when x% of women wanted Hillary and y% of blacks wanted Obama I don't recall ever seeing a poll of black women. I'm sure it existed, but was not something that people were looking at in a widespread way.

Any demographic-based data is going to have overlaps with other demographics. But if the question is can Bernie win black votes, the answer is clearly yes as he is polling better and better with the African American community as time goes on.

But if you want to know, 15% of African Americans belong to evangelical protestant churches. 59% go to historically black protestant churches (for example, AME Zion), and 5% are Catholic.

I don't think that information matters in any possible way.

It matters a lot because these type of protestants align with the right and find socialism deplorable. Rights come from god and not the government.

Theres no other way these pastors wuld live in million dollar homes and drive 100,000 dollar cars to massive super churches and get away with it. Hi
