Does anybody else think Boyega looks just like a young Denzel Washington?

The biggest problem with this movie is that it was episode 7 and not 8 or 9 or 10 which essentially seals obi wan and recwnt yoda as failures. They cant go back and make a 6.5 so everything done to defeat the empire was a waste as it immediately rose back up as tge first order. Wpuldve been nice to see a movie where they dominated and the dark side rose out of nowhere to take over like episode 3. Rotj happy ending was obliterated by this movie. The more i think about it. This movie was great because of its production and directing. It was beautifully shot actors were great transitions were great but the plot was complete mush. Waste of a movie in terms of plot. The last scene was rge the only thing remotely original, new or thought provoking.[Edited on December 25, 2015 at 9:21 AM. Reason : Luke raising padowans losing kylo and going to exile shouldve been the plot][Edited on December 25, 2015 at 9:22 AM. Reason : Use episode 3 and leave 6 alone. ][Edited on December 25, 2015 at 9:23 AM. Reason : Y]

The three biggest things that people are forgetting when they're discussing the plot of the moves 1. The actors are much older, so you couldn't really just pretend to start out right after RotJ2. If they had started out with no empire, Luke training young Jedi, etc, it would have felt like a rehash of 1,2,33. They had to do a lot of world building in this one, so they didn't have time for perfect plot pointsTFA's only goal, in my opinion, was to set up the sequel and get you emotionally invested in the characters, which I think it did wonderfully.

^^ the end of RoTJ was not some immediate forming if the republic. They killed the emperor and defeated a very small portion of the imperial fleet. Before the EU was declared non canon it went very into detail about the decades of conflicts between the imperial remnants and the fledgling new republic.
12/25/2015 10:41:46 AM
The First Order is tiny compared to the Empire and is mostly out in the outer rim and unknown regions. The Republic controls the majority of the galaxy. The Rebel Alliance did not turn into the Resistance, the Rebel Alliance turned into the Republic. The Republic and First Order have been in a cold war, and the Resistance is a militia group funded under the table by the Republic. They are like the Mujaheddin for example. Um, there is no end to conflict. The names and places just change. Why would you want the nice tidy ending of ROTJ to remain? The anthology films have every right to go to the time between 6 and 7 and fill in anything they want. This movie did a really good job inserting the audience into a functioning storyline. Many things have happened leading up to the events of 7 and the audience is just like dbfidbshdbdjdjcbc. They have so many movies to flesh it out. Netflix or HBO would be amazing for starting a series following a separate group of people on the galaxy. The galactic map they have in the new picture book is pretty basic. Especially compared to GOT maps. I'm sure it will all fill in as they figure out what they want the Canon to be.Lack of info frees up directors later for figuring out the best way to handle the story arc

saw it tonight and reading through this thread finally. I wanted to touch on WHO is Rey parent(s).
12/26/2015 7:30:28 AM
I've been hearing rumors about Rey being ObiWan's daughter, but that's not likely. Why would Obi-Wan, who has failed with Anakin as a male authority and blames himself for Vader's existence, ever have a relationship or risk having children? The age difference is also so far off that he would have needed ghost sex to conceive her. No way is Obi Wan a more likely father than Luke.Jedis used to be born all the time to non-Jedis. How else could there have been so many of them if they weren't allowed to procreate? The concept the force "awakening" could mean more non-Skywalkers. People need to stop looking for the plot twist and be ok with new things.
12/26/2015 7:58:39 AM
but they made a thing in the movie. No parents, waiting for them to come back, clearly leaving the viewer to go "hmm who dis be".Here is a copy paste of reasons from reddit, and i agree:
12/26/2015 8:25:40 AM
Kenobi died almost 40 years ago, Rey is in her early 20s
12/26/2015 10:50:29 AM
Granddaughter would make more sense than daughter. Then it's the same generation of kylo and ray replacing anakin and obi wan. But several items in that list are innacurate or subjective.
12/26/2015 11:15:32 AM
Why does everyone have to be related? Maybe Finn is Lando's son and Snoke is the Emperor's son too.

http://www.buzzfeed.com/ryanhatesthis/seriously-dont-click-this-if-you-havent-seen-tfa-yet#.pm0q1jyB1This would explain why Han made that shot without looking on maz kanada's planet. It was kylo helping. The thing is the story is so loose you can do whatever you want. Including this possibility. This movie is at least a fun thing to think about. So many possibilities. Will make the sequels equally anticipated.
12/26/2015 5:27:34 PM
I don't buy it because I took the phrase "Can you help me" as him just using his conversation with Han to buy time for the Starkilller base to finish charging, and that was the help he needed.
12/26/2015 10:59:05 PM
yeah im not buying he's a double agent shit either.
12/27/2015 5:55:41 AM
Killing his father helped him complete that level of his training. Its necessary as luke needed to kill anakin to truly become dark.
12/27/2015 11:53:23 AM
"Snokes" is a dumb name

I avoided this thread until I saw the movie tonight.. I just read all the other pages and agree with some things..Questions, though:What happened when Rey touched the lightsaber? Were all those flashbacks or flash forwards? For example, Luke's hand touching R2D2 was in that scene, the one from the trailer. I forgot what else they showed, but I don't remember it happening yet? One was Kylo killing somebody? I think.... Someone refresh my memory on what all it showedAnd who was Snokes? Was he the holographic bad guy? Is he sitting somewhere alive or is that his ghost?[Edited on December 28, 2015 at 1:27 AM. Reason : yeah]
12/28/2015 1:26:56 AM
That was mostly a flashback. It showed Kylo with what is probably the rest of the Knights of Ren, right after they slaughtered the Jedi that Luke was training. It also showed her when she was being left on Jakku. Nobody knows where Snokes came from.
12/28/2015 7:31:08 AM
My working theory on Snokes is that he's Darth Plagueis, Siduious' old master. We do know from Palpatine that Plagueis was obsessed with immortality through Force manipulation, and it's not a huge leap to believe that Palpatine didn't as thoroughly kill his old master as he thought. Severely weakened, he's spent the last generations regaining strength and has stepped up to fill the power vacuum left over from the fall of his old apprentice.
12/28/2015 7:50:05 AM
I've heard that theory too, but if that is the case, this galaxy keeps shrinking. There are too many connections to characters from the previous movies. And if Finn is Lando's son or grandson....that is going to strain credulity.
12/28/2015 7:58:01 AM
What if Rey is both a Kenobi AND a Skywalker? Obi-wan could have a daughter, Luke could have bwned her.
12/28/2015 11:08:22 AM
12/28/2015 11:41:02 AM
For the rey/Skywalker column, I interpreted r2 waking up as recognizing the Skywalker force signature, or something, when Rey landed. Leia obviously has some connection to her as well.
12/28/2015 12:04:45 PM
Y'all gotta stop saying Snokes.
12/28/2015 1:02:02 PM
He's already got a pet name

^^Yes, and he turned and killed the rest of the Jedi trainees.

Yeah it was stated that Luke had started a new Jedi Academy of a sort before Kylo turned on him. After the fall of his Academy Luke went on a quest for the first Jedi Temple(s), and that's what the map R2 and BB8 had pieces of.
12/29/2015 7:04:39 AM
I wonder if we will see any of the other knights of ren? And why did they take that name anyway? And, why was Luke Skywalker just standing there at the end? Do you think he knew they were coming?
12/29/2015 10:06:41 AM
I don't see any reason to assume he didn't know they were coming, especially once they landed.
12/29/2015 12:13:00 PM
Rey is oozing force. Of course he sensed her presence.
