You sure do whine about FFP a lot while supporting a massive champion's league club that pays big wages.

Just let the folks who's clubs are actually getting screwed fight that battle.

Not really true. Just City, Chelsea and PSG. No one else.

Anyway, no Europe thread this year but Real's XI looks ridiculous. Nice treat that its on and I'm working at home this PM.

Yeah, I was just coming in here to post that. Their bench is Navas, Varane, Marcelo, Arbeloa, Di María, Isco, Illarramendi. Ridiculous.

Nice find. Booing the home team at the final whistle after a 0-0 draw where they're outplayed by a team led by a footballing genius is totally the same thing as jeering a particular player every single time he touches the ball.

The special Old Trafford fans should be above that sort of thing anyway. I mean, without them, United wouldn't be able to draw so many superstars.

They should be booing SAF for forcing United to hire a mug like Moyes who was willing to pay £27m for a shit player like Fellaini.

Super harsh on Naughton.

But it was likely going to be a goal. I hate the double jeopardy calls like that. A pen was fine.

So which was the highlight of the day?

1) Bird shitting right into Ashley Young's mouth
2) Fan taking a free kick
3) Referee spraying paint into Santi Cazorla's face

My pick is all the pundits realizing LVG can't save a shit squad without MAJOR purchases... and shit in Young's mouth.

Also, couldn't post after game but Calum Chambers, despite one horrible decision, was MotM to me. A 19 year old with that composure. He will pay back that fee in spades the next decade just like Luke Shaw will...

*** lol the Ronaldo impersonator in full kit on the corner was by far the best moment of the day lol. Dude was telling Benzema where to set up...

Liverpools back line is awful still but Moreno is good so he will help and Sakho over Skrtel as well.

Really unlucky for Southampton to not get something. Far the better team in the second half..

No it's not. Glen Johnson is awful. Lucas is awful. Gerrard is not a defensive midfielder.

[Edited on August 17, 2014 at 10:21 AM. Reason : thought Skrtel/Lovren have been very good actually]

Glen Johnson will still be first choice though, wont he?

Honestly I thought Lucas was sold. Wasn't that basically done?

No one really impressive so far but City will be looking at the team sheets.

And as much as Pool and Arsenal struggled, lol at United.

Not sure honestly. Manquillo went right into the starting lineup and as much as Moreno was pursued this summer, I'd imagine he would too. Just looked at Skrtel's stats - 9-1 in duels, 7-1 in aerial duels, 20 clearances, 2 interceptions. Not bad. Lovren signing will be huge this season for this defense.

Rodgers is going to pay for sticking with Gerrard late in games and it almost happened today.

Told somebody the other day Southampton will still finish top 10 this year. They have a lot of talented players. Obviously Liverpool was poor in the second half but I still think some of it had to do with Southampton's quality.

The same shit squad that walked the league can't be saved after 1 match in a 38 match season. Brilliant punditry!

Re: Nastasic... there was chatter a few weeks ago that Arsenal wanted him but I don't think City has any interest in selling domestically. Italy if anywhere IMO.

Fwiw he was my preferred third CB but from the players perspective why leave a reserve role at City to be third choice at Arsenal.
