It looked like the kid was sucked under the right tire which I imagine could cause the car to fish tail. I don't know though. It's so fast it is hard to see which happens first.
8/10/2014 1:13:21 PM
I don't think he swerved to hit him. It's more likely he just decided not to swerve to miss him, as is any driver's duty.Anyway, his career is done. He kept playing around with those dirt cars and it's ruined his last two seasons. Oh well, plenty more drivers waiting to take his place.
8/10/2014 1:17:49 PM
I can't imagine he'll throw himself out of his own ride.
8/10/2014 1:24:11 PM
So at no point the kid is held responsible for walking out on a dark dirt track with a black suite and approaching moving vehicles? I feel sad for him and his family and some new facts might shift some blame/change my opinion, but the reality is if he stayed in his car and got towed off or escorted off properly instead of going out after Stewart it wouldn't have happened. Need to get back to holding people accountable for actions at some point.I always figured it was only a matter of time before a nascar driver got seriously hurt doing this same thing.

in a few months he will have a ton of positive press about how this changed his life
8/10/2014 1:46:40 PM
^^I don't know...I mean I'm sure Tony Stewart doesn't want his career to end. But it may not be up to him in this case.

^Plenty of racers have been involved in fatal wrecks and didn't die and went on doing things like they always did.
8/10/2014 2:04:10 PM
That was a pretty gnarly wreck there
8/10/2014 2:46:48 PM
i posted this in the garage thread:

Same track that he caused a wreck which left a 19 year old driver with a compression fracture in her back last year.

These last few laps have been real exciting. Allmendinger and Ambrose really going at it. Fun to watch.[Edited on August 10, 2014 at 5:18 PM. Reason : as]

On that last point, I think he was referring specifically to someone walking on the track to confront another driver and being hit.
8/10/2014 6:17:24 PM
^yes that was what I was saying.^^ you can have your opinion, you don't know what Stewart did and didn't see(amazed by your certainty), and as sad as it is doesn't change that he was walking up to a moving vehicle during a race. Stewart can certainly hold blame but if the kid stayed in his car like you are suppose to it doesn't happen and that is on him.
8/10/2014 7:06:52 PM
8/10/2014 8:18:27 PM
he gets on the gas to try to turn the car left and go around him as he's walking at the car. On dirt, that doesn't work so well
8/10/2014 8:27:18 PM
and how is everyone so positive that sound is TonyThe dude filimg it is on the straight away...not in that curve. There's no telling where that sound came from.

http://www.motorsport.com/sprint/news/yes-tony-stewart-did-run-over-a-fellow-driver-who-was-killed-but-know-the-whole-story/This is a good article discussing the situation and gives a different perspective from someone who knows a lot about the sport, and those cars in general. Also I'm not sure he saw the kid. As the article says, it was a poorly lit track, dark fire suit and helmet, and poor visibility out of the car. Here is a look of the right side of the car where Tony would have been looking out of. Not a lot of visibility.
8/10/2014 10:33:34 PM
Anyone that says with certainty one thing or the other is crazy.I do think its sad that there are people out there rushing to judgement because of what they think they know about the sport or what they think they saw when they literally know nothing about the sport and haven't seen enough to make a judgement. As others have said there are a few key things that you must take into account.1. Kid shouldn't have run down the track. Obvious.2. It is very possible Tony didn't see the kid until it was too late. Dim lighting, dark track, dark firesuit/helmet, kid shouldn't have been there so Tony prolly wasn't expecting him to be there.3. Anyone that says he got on the gas because they could "hear" it is an idiot. As others have pointed out, this dude is recording with a home camera or camera phone from all the way across the track. That sound of an engine could have, and likely did, come from any car on the front stretch at that time. It just so happens to time up shortly before Tonys car comes into picture.4. Anyone that says that Tony could have missed him if he wanted to is also an idiot. You have no clue what Tony saw, how the car handles, how fast he was going to catch up with the field, etc. To say with certainty one thing or the other proves that you are dumb because you just don't know. Nobody KNOWS. Those of us that are trying to be objective about this are just throwing out the likely probabilities of what happened.

I am not a big NASCAR expert, but why was he in that crappy race to begin with? Is this like the equivalent of a pick up game or something?
8/11/2014 2:14:24 AM
shit DPÜ[Edited on August 11, 2014 at 2:16 AM. Reason : d]
Tony loves racing and dirt racing especially. He bought an old track and fixed it up and hosts the truck series Midsummer Classic at Eldora every year he loves dirt racing so much. He said in an interview that some people love to go to movies or hang out with their families...he loves to race, so that's what he does. Dude doesn't have a wife, doesn't have kids. He just races.
8/11/2014 3:53:43 AM
win to get in the chase success story yesterday. it was cool that ambrose and the dinger were racing hard for that chase spot. i was happy for AJ
8/11/2014 7:55:35 AM
That "crappy race" aka sprint car dirt racing is a lot more exciting than the shitty product that is NASCAR.

does anyone honestly think that Stewart intentionally plowed the guy over?To lighten the mood, I went to an AMA Flat Track (dirt oval motorcycles) race last Friday night as part of the MotoGP weekend in Indianapolis. The track is the Indiana State Fairgrounds, a 1-mile dirt oval. Here's the race on Youtube if you're interested. looks like Talladega for dirt bikes, haha
8/14/2014 9:29:02 PM
The main got a little strung out (25 laps so you'd expect that). In the heat races and semis there was more variation in the lines bikes ran. What surprised me was they never watered the track down once the heat races started.Marc Marquez (who so far this year in MotoGP has won 10 out of 10 races) and Nicky Hayden (former MotoGP World Champion from Owensboro, Kentucky) were in attendance and talked to by the PA announcer.I'd been wanting to go to a Flat Track race. Never been to one before Friday night.[Edited on August 14, 2014 at 10:08 PM. Reason : /]

career win 91, anyone think he could hit a hundred? (2nd all-time is David Pearson with 105 which I think is just out of reach even if Gordon races 6 more years)
8/17/2014 6:12:53 PM
Since we're talking about non-NASCAR stuff on this page, is anyone else planning on going to the Wake County speedway on Friday? They are hosting USAC Eastern Midgets, if they don't get rained out for a second time!

well, Morgan Shepherd is approvedher finish on small ovals in Indycar was either DNF due to "Handling" or straight up black flag for too slow, although there will be more cars on the track, more cautions, and stock cars are slower that will allow her to hide on the track more[Edited on August 20, 2014 at 4:57 PM. Milka duno....lol. look up her races on youtube. Wrecks someone in almost every race.In cooler news, Chase Elliott was in Raleigh at a NAPA store and my parents got to meet him
8/20/2014 6:00:33 PM
A buddy I worked for in sportscars where Duno first popped up prior to going to Indycars, actually has a higher opinion of her than most. (Drivers like Duno are incredibly normal in sportscars.) He was though in the pit area one time and Duno asked him if he could zip up her firesuit prior to a race. Said she had an awesome body. She's a little older now.First time I ever heard of her was "The Race of a Thousand Years" held in Adelaide, Australia, on December 31st, 2000. She was in a private Viper that race and the local press ate her up.[Edited on August 20, 2014 at 10:24 PM. Reason : .]
