I have a question:I've heard that furloghed employees will be getting backpay. How does that work?I've heard federal employees whine about being out of work, and now they are getting backpay for sitting on their ass at home?Surely they don't get payed 100% and use no PTO for these 16 days?
10/17/2013 5:19:37 PM
I was only furloughed 4 days until the Pay Our Military Now act was "conveniently" interpreted by DoD lawyers to send basically the entire DoD back as "essential", "coincidentally" around the same time the House unanimously passed a bill that would give furloughed employees back pay.however, for the 4 days my ass sat at home, I will be fully reimbursed for, whenever they get around to it. some people got 12 days off because their agencies weren't unfurloughed. they, too, will get full back pay. they will not have to take annual leave, etc for those days (unless they had planned to be on leave and had it approved before the furloughs). it isn't really "fair", but neither is not letting us go to work when we'd rather go and get paid than sit at home and not get paid.in other words, blame congress, not the federal employees

Blame the House for shutting down the government knowing that the money would get paid out anyway and not even benefiting from the labor that could have been used.

Feds also get a huge raise...1%...it was included as well..
10/19/2013 3:00:01 AM
1% is huge now?
10/19/2013 9:31:08 AM
considering our pay has been frozen going on 4 years...
10/19/2013 10:24:21 AM
Maybe you should consider a job in the private sector? If I was working in a job that hadn't given me a raise in 4 years, I would have found something new at least three years ago.[Edited on October 19, 2013 at 4:47 PM. Reason : ]

CREW wants to know the reasoning Obama has used to announce that the Congressional debt ceiling is actually binding on him, despite what the 14th Amendment says, and so do I: http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/329407-watchdog-demands-to-know-why-obama-renounced-debt-limit-power

ttt, BWho here will be effected by a government shutdown?
9/26/2023 7:05:11 PM
Every federal government shutdown since 1991 has been when Republicans controlled the House, and in all but one they also controlled the Senate. The party of taking your ball and going home.
9/26/2023 7:09:48 PM
I'm not even sure what this debacle is about this time. Like, had the republican- led house even passed a budget yet?

I still work on government contracts, so...Latest word is that our contract is still fully funded throughout October. After that, if a shutdown is still going on, we shall see. Previously, when an extended shutdown happened, they started to furlough people.
9/27/2023 12:50:44 PM

I have a friend who is ex-Navy that now works for a defense contractor. At one point, I was told that she makes $80k working part time! That had to be 15 years ago. She probably makes $200k now or more. She's all the time complaining about the impending government shutdown lately. I don't know if she's affected, but that would be a fat paycheck to have delayed.
