This is nothing but good. I hope Tom Cotton and the GOP doesn’t try to undermine the president again, though. Also, it’s interesting that the Democrats aren’t shitting all over this like the GOP did with Iran. That should make it a ton easier for Trump/Pompeo/Moon to make some real permanent headway if Un is serious about opening up NK.[Edited on April 27, 2018 at 9:49 AM. Reason : X]

Don't worry, there's still time for numerous parties to fuck this one up.
4/27/2018 10:19:39 AM
^^Who’s shitting on this?I haven’t seen anyone say it’s not a positive developmentIt really doesn’t look like the US was involved in this though, at least not like the Iran deal where we were leading the negotiations. [Edited on April 27, 2018 at 10:42 AM. Reason : ]

I don’t care who the most important players are tbh. If Trump wants to claim credit have at it. I care more about legitimate peace and better lives for the Korean people. He still sucks and his policies hurt more Americans then they help.[Edited on April 27, 2018 at 11:03 AM. 4/27/2018 11:11:15 AM
Lol @ Trump4NobelPeacePrizeWouldn't that chap some peoples' tails.Seriously though, whether a direct correlation to his policies or not, would he be a serious contender? I mean Obama won it on the assumption he would do great things, so I don't see this as being that much different.Come on TGL3...I know you're gonna reply. Tell me how my comment on Obama was so wrong. Based on what I've read, he was awarded the prize based on his promises to close Gitmo, end the Isreali-Palestinian conflict, and basically just willing to reach out to other countries. But still, it appeared to have been awarded based on promises, not deeds.
4/27/2018 11:15:55 AM
Obama didn't deserve it, and Trump definitely doesn't deserve it. That completely erases the work of peace activists in Korea, not to mention excusing his mass murder elsewhere in the world.
4/27/2018 11:22:51 AM
if trump signs a peace deal and reduces sanctions opening up korea he definitely deserves it[Edited on April 27, 2018 at 12:26 PM. Reason : he still hasnt done anything yet so thats a big if]
4/27/2018 12:26:29 PM
I don't care if he personally dismantles the border, he's still a fucking war criminal and it's insane for a leftist to suggest he deserves the peace prize.[Edited on April 27, 2018 at 12:39 PM. Reason : .]

I haven't been following this very much, but wasn't there some huge underground explosion that basically wiped out NK's nukes, therefore rendering its threats null?

Don’t worry, Dr. Gorka will be on the scene too.(I’m still in favor of this meeting fwiw but I have zero confidence it is a serious endeavor on NKs side)
6/6/2018 6:54:15 PM
oh me too, but can you imagine someone predicting this before the world ended in 2012?
6/6/2018 7:22:04 PM
As opposed to it being a serious endeavor on the US side? Literally the only reason Trump is doing this is to get his name in the hat for a Nobel. He'll waddle in with absurd benchmarks for N Korea to meet, which they won't, and this will all just be an over-hyped photo op.
6/7/2018 7:51:48 AM
Oh I have no confidence in Trump with anything. That was implicit. He’s an idiot with severe issues. He’s not even taking prep seriously for this. Just saying I’m not opposed to meeting with KJU. Wasn’t when Obama said it during camoaignnin 2008 and not now.

6/12/2018 7:45:11 AM
he's jealous of kim's crowd sizes
6/12/2018 7:50:21 AM
Looks like the MAGAS and far left (Tracey/Greenwald/etc) are pretty happy. But honestly I’m not sure about what. I mean we are basically taking Trumps word that Kim will de-nuke which he obviously won’t. I’m not sure I see any tangible concessions by NK or really any changes at all.Still, being further from nuclear war (which by the way Trump ratcheted up himself) is a good thing. I’d rather we don’t heap praise on the way he runs his country though.
6/12/2018 9:48:15 AM
Largely symbolic, though even the tenuous promise of denuclearization is a good thing. I think Trump maybe gave a bit more than he should have, since denuke-ing was the stated price for America to even come to the table, but good faith is good faith I suppose.All-in-all I don't think Trump did too badly here.Though the flip side is that he's set the bar so low at this point that we're almost forced to be impressed by this not being a complete shitshow. Give it a couple days and we'll be back to status-quo.
6/12/2018 10:29:51 AM
6/12/2018 10:47:31 AM
Trump heaping praise and saying the people love Kim and he loves them because of fervor they show is a pretty pathetic and useless thing to say given what we know. The people of Korea want peace, of course. And I’m glad we are further away from a hot war then we were last year. South Koreans don’t want to live in threat of a madman using nukes and invading their country. North Koreans would rather not be systematically imprisoned and/or killed for any sign of dissent or disloyalty. Was there any talk of him releasing his political prisoners? I missed it if so.Basically what happened here is Trump took us to the brink of a major calamity last year, backed off and then went over the top to reconcile. He basically lowered the bar to “no nuclear war.” A good lowering it only really ratcheted up by him in the first place.[Edited on June 12, 2018 at 10:58 AM. Reason : First paragraph answers your last question. If Trump deserves praise he should get it.]
6/12/2018 10:57:27 AM
Again, South Koreans are happy with the way things are going and it is the height of US imperialist arrogance to throw doubt on all of it.

My bar for Trump is “are we closer to a nuclear war now or when he took over.” My answer is it appears we are back to where we were on Jan 20, 2017. KJU has a nuke program and we don’t want him to. The only difference is he has been given a platform to be seen as an equal on the world stage. That’s nit inherently bad or good but it’s the only change. If Trump got actual concessions or worked with KJU on human rights or was able to get information on the depth of the NK nuclear program I’d give him credit for that. As it stands he created a shitstorm with his bellicose behavior last year and then decided he’d ratchet it down. He basically lowered the bar himself to the lowest possible place and then barely hopped over it.[Edited on June 12, 2018 at 12:14 PM. Reason : X]
