Let me change that to I want Kirby Smart

Norv Turner. Phillip Rivers has been preparing him for this gig for years.

I hear Butch Davis is available
11/26/2012 1:37:34 PM
what all former football coaches are currently employed as analysts at ESPN? Corso and Holtz are obviously too old, but who are the "Mark Gottfried's of football"

~first of all, please don't flame me for dreaming~Bill Cowher is an analyst who, like Gottfried, may prefer to get back into coaching. He lives in NC.He played for NC state. He is not too old.He attended the UVa game, and witnessed a team with no motivation: a coaching failure.Pretty sure his daughter is a freshmen here.It is not so entirely ridiculous that it hasn't been mentioned in the sports press for over a decade.Would Yow really have let go of someone like TOB before the bowl game if she didn't already have a better replacement in her sights.~also, please don't flame me for dreaming~
11/26/2012 2:04:29 PM
there it is!
11/26/2012 2:06:54 PM
Bill Cowher? Never heard of him.
11/26/2012 2:08:57 PM
it's a dream, nothing more1) We can't afford Cowher2) He has no interest in coaching college football (he's openly stated this)3) He'd be committing career suicideI'd love to see it happen but it just isn't going to happen.
11/26/2012 2:09:35 PM
Rex Ryan DC?
11/26/2012 2:09:47 PM
LOL
11/26/2012 2:10:06 PM
Fireman Ed for head coach?
11/26/2012 2:11:49 PM
Rivers for President 2012
11/26/2012 2:12:02 PM
I think a realistic option would be James Franklin currently at Vandy. He is a young, up-and -coming coach that has the Maryland connection with Yow. State could do FAR worse.
11/26/2012 2:18:25 PM
^Never heard of him
11/26/2012 2:19:37 PM
Ron Cherry for NCSU HC.
11/26/2012 2:20:49 PM
^he was offered. gave yow the business.

11/26/2012 2:24:59 PM
I've been surprised at how many people seem to be questioning the timing of this. It makes the most sense to openly start the search now.
11/26/2012 2:29:31 PM
^This is about advancing a football program; not being "nice" to mediocre football coaches.

^^^None of those makes me particularly excited.

What makes anyone think DY wants Cowher? She wants someone that can recruit. I know Cowher is a big name and can coach his ass off, but can he recruit worth a damn. And the argument of "Oh his name will bring people" or "He just has to show the Super Bowl ring" are reasonable. She wants a recruiter who is involved in the process through out, and not someone like O'Brien who comes in and closes and relies on his staff. I completely foresee that is what Cowher would do. Even if Cowher wants the job, I don't think DY would even entertain the idea.
11/26/2012 2:46:19 PM
My money is on Cowher.Make it happen Yow!
11/26/2012 2:47:19 PM
I don't even understand why I continue to look in this thread for news. You guys have literally spent nine pages talking about the same four fucking names, throwing around bullshit troll posts and putting in pictures that really have no bearing on anything.IF Cowher wanted to coach again (he doesn't), he'd go make big bucks back in the NFL. How many people have to to tell you Franklin is not interested before you stop bringing his name up?For fucks sake will some mods let one sports talk thread be serious for a change.
11/26/2012 2:52:18 PM
Either going one of two ways.Alabamas game this week sets the timeline or availability of Smart. We would want them to lose to UGA this weekend for a few reasons 1.) less time with alabama as def coac 2.) no chance of Richt takeover talk 3.) logical transition to head coach after loss.If Smart turns it down...we will go with a bevvy of solid coaches/coordinators. one decent head coach at the helm but with good OFF and DEF coordinators I.e. LA Tech, Kent State current coordinators and a spectacular recruiter.pay a up and coming big name or pay lots of good assistants. Thats the choice Yow has presented herself and the committee with.
11/26/2012 2:53:10 PM
seriosuly suggesting cowher or any sec/B1G head coaches should be a suspendable offense
11/26/2012 2:56:53 PM
Let me preface this by saying I don't think there's a chance in Hell that we'd ever get Cowher to coach here. That being said...
11/26/2012 2:58:34 PM
DY makes a point to say that TOB's recruiting was a factor to why he was "released". So let's go hire a coach who has zero recruiting experience. Yes I'm dead serious. DY would not hire Cowher if he came knocking at the door.[Edited on November 26, 2012 at 3:00 PM. Reason : ]
11/26/2012 3:00:22 PM
11/26/2012 3:01:32 PM
^if Cowher comes knocking at the door, DY better have adult entertainers there to open it.
11/26/2012 3:03:18 PM
^^^I'm going to assume you're just trolling at this point and move on.
11/26/2012 3:09:06 PM
While we're trying to lure Cowher, let's try for Saban while we're at it. The money would be about the same, since we'd be trying to keep him out of a top NFL job.
11/26/2012 3:09:10 PM

About Nick Saban, I think coaching trees are important here. Lets try hiring someone who has a history of having his staff have good head coaching tenures, so that there is continuity for future head coaches here at StateFrom Wiki
