I agree with what you're saying, but that doesn't change what's going on with child custody in regards to this amendment unfortunately.
4/27/2012 9:08:46 AM
I was under the impression that one of the biggest identifiers of a "conservative" voter was their desire to keep government as small as possible and out of their lives. christians who want to legislate morality, especially by amending the freakin' constitution, don't seem to fit the mold of a "conservative" voter.

You shouldn't need an ammendemnet to the constitution to declare custody rights. You need judges that can look at two(or more) groups of people to decide who's best fit to raise a child. Couple A: shitbag married straight couple with criminal pastCouple B: gay working class couple with a clean record and upstanding citizens. I'd much rather couple B raise the kid.

^this.I think this amendment was all about trying to get the "conservatives" to re-elect the "conservative" legislators. It has very little to due with the gay marriage issue, as that's already illegal. I think the "conservative" legislators saw this as a way to say, hey "conservative" voters, look what we're doing for you! Vote for us again! We went against teh gays because if gays get married (nevermind that they already can't) then we won't have a state or economy to worry about because this state will be lost in a world of immorality and dead babies![Edited on April 27, 2012 at 9:19 AM. ^^so it sounds like your against the amendment[Edited on April 27, 2012 at 9:19 AM. Reason : ]

One issue that I admit with my conservative classification is that many of my social beliefs are seen as "liberal" beliefs; however, to me (i.e.. IMO), they are truly conservative (less government control over private lifes), e.g. gay marriage, abortion/[Edited on April 27, 2012 at 9:23 AM. Reason : /]
4/27/2012 9:23:00 AM
and that's when many "conservatives" right-wingers become hypocrites. they' all about "don't tread on me", but then they support legislation that treads on people that are different than them.
4/27/2012 9:33:20 AM
^this.I don't follow that trend, which is typically from the christian conservatives, thus the difference in label. I truly don't want the government to interfere.

4/27/2012 4:14:15 PM
^^ don't go there. You know good and damn well that's not the same thing.
4/27/2012 4:17:49 PM
Yes, actually it's exactly the same thing. You are intertwining culture with sexual orientation, which makes you sound like an even bigger bigot. Being flamboyant and being gay are completely different things. Being an asshole and being gay are completely different things. Being obnoxious and being gay are completely different things.Yes there are flamboyant, obnoxious gay assholes. There are also flamboyant, obnoxious straight assholes. That doesn't mean they shouldn't be demanding equal rights, and shouldn't be gathering in whatever form necessary to have their voice heard.
4/27/2012 4:24:45 PM
that might be the best thing wolfpackgrrr has posted in a whileand yes apex its so the same thing
4/27/2012 4:26:32 PM
Wait. You people are comparing the "mistreatment" of gays in this country to what the blacks went through for 300+ years??? JesusgoddamnChrist. I'm out. You people are full on retards.
4/27/2012 4:31:57 PM
i'm pretty sure no one was comparing the mistreatment of gays to the mistreatment of blacks. I'm pretty sure.
4/27/2012 4:34:28 PM
4/27/2012 4:35:24 PM
The comparison isn't to the hundreds of years of slavery, it is about the unequal rights and how they were fought for in the 50s-70s.
4/27/2012 4:48:40 PM
^^yep, still pretty sure beethoven. the response "it's exactly the same thing" wasn't in response to a question "have gays historically endured the exact same mistreatment as blacks have in america for 300+ years?" so just posting that quote doesn't prove your point.i think the picture was referring to blacks standing up for their rights, and it's the exact same thing as gays standing up for theirs.aren't you a lawyer or something? you didn't interpret that one very well.[Edited on April 27, 2012 at 4:56 PM. Gotcha, i was just saying that apex's interpretation of what was said was wrong. i'm pretty sure.

I realize this thread is about Amendment 1....which I do not support. Hear me out, maybe I can offer some insight.I am in outside sales, which is currently salary+commission, but will move into straight commission starting at the beginning of July 2010. I have been in this position since July 2009. I have competition from several direct manufacturing sales reps, large distributors, and local distributors. Here are the advantages and disadvantages of each:Direct Advantages: Immediate knowledge of new technology, no middle man mark up, one shipping bill (paid by manufacturer or buyer of goods), access to larger range of non-commodity items, control inventory, have access to many distributors that can effectively sell their goods which increases market share, and set prices of commodity they manufacture.Direct disadvantages: Typically have 1-3 sales reps per region (i.e. southeast, mid-atlantic, northeast, etc.) limiting the number of accounts they can successfully manage/cold-call, lack physical customer service or physical technical service available to or affordable for smaller users or altogether, are sometimes not trustworthy because they will go in behind their distributors that sell their commodity to one account in large quantities (i.e. they missed a big account, and have found out about it through a distributor selling their particular product) which leads to the distributor not selling their product anymore, have too many distributors selling the product ultimately driving the set price down through deviations, possibly rely on distributors to actually sell the product, and competition from other direct sources.Large distributor advantages: have access to other commodities that go hand in hand with other manufacturers (poor example- grocery stores sell milk as well as cereal), get direct pricing, many locations regionally or nationally easing the shipping burden of buyers with multiple locations, personal service either customer or technical, many sales reps that are able to cover a broader territory, access to multiple manufacturers of the same commodity allowing to keep prices in check, service programs that smaller companies can't offer and direct providers can't match in price or value, and experts of many many commodities as opposed to one or a few.Large distributor disadvantages: smaller local distributors creating price wars (think Michael Scott Paper Co vs Dunder-Mifflin), direct mfg's going in behind and stealing business, limited access to all of the mfg's (you won't find Harris Teeter name brands in Food Lion and visa versa), can't truly set prices because it's based on both supply and demand, territory management, and tough growth prospects in slower economies (this is true for direct as well really)Local distributor advantages: Typically a good ol' boy setting where the seller and the buyer know each other for years (this does happen at all levels, but mostly at the local level), local folks are right down the street and can be used in emergencies, if the local guy buys at high enough volumes then there is no shipping charge to the end user, and access to both direct mfg's and large distributors.Local distributor disadvantages: easily beaten in price, array of commodities, array of technology, lack of trained staff, low cash flow, etc etc etc. This is what I have noticed in my six months, I am sure there are plenty more that need mentioning. The way I am setting myself apart as a sales person is this: I go after the big accounts right now while I am new. The big accounts, if I land them, will take care of me while I am new and building a customer base. The money made off of those allows me to focus free time on smaller accounts that get me higher margins. I build up big accounts, I would like to have 5-10 of these, then get 20-30 medium accounts. If I lose 1 or 2 big accounts, the 20-30 medium accounts keep me afloat while I go after new big accounts. I don't really waste time on small accounts simply because they basically pay for breakfast or something really small.I will say this, if you can't get a big account in the first 6-8 months (assuming you have cash flow that you can ride this long) you could be in a world of trouble. If you can get one, it will really make going after the others a lot more enjoyable and less stressful. It's simply just very exhausting wasting any time on anything other than big accounts in the very beginning. You work just as hard on the medium sized accounts and see 1/3 to 1/36 of the money in my situation. If you have any other questions, you can PM me. I hope this helps in the slightest!

according to the last presidential election, NC is a blue state!

yeah, but not when it comes to JesusThe NC black folk will turn out for Obama, but good luck getting them to vote on anything before November[Edited on April 30, 2012 at 4:16 PM. Reason : a]
4/30/2012 4:14:22 PM
^^reasons why that doesn't matter:#1) there isn't a black president to vote for, democrats won't be showing up in such high volume, this hurts the chances of passingwhich leads me to:#2) african-americans won't be voting in mass numbers, which helps this amendment get defeated.
4/30/2012 4:17:08 PM
yeah, yall right
4/30/2012 4:30:44 PM
I only know 2 black people, but I sure have pestered them to vote
4/30/2012 5:00:57 PM
I somehow lost my Vote Against shirt
4/30/2012 5:02:37 PM
I meant that for shock value, but the meaning behind it is true. Obama won NC mainly due to first-time voters wanting to elect a black president, and their second time voting will be for his re-election. They will not be at the polls May 8th.[Edited on April 30, 2012 at 5:03 PM. Reason : a]
