you're going to have to size that down dude.

Not a fan of the three wolf logo, but:
3/14/2012 12:22:11 PM
^^^i'm betting that wood will be able to authoritatively get to the rim with ease. probably have a sportcenter highlight dunk or three. the aztecs will never see it coming from a lanky indiana kid.
3/14/2012 12:35:49 PM
3/14/2012 12:36:19 PM
Good moments. He had some important threes in that game. But no, he didn't have any sportscenter dunks in that one.
3/14/2012 12:38:03 PM
IF they choose to double team leslie and leave wood open, he'll have a good game. You give him enough wide open looks and choose not to harass him and he'll drop 20pts on them. There's a reason he has bad games against unc...they have a guy in his hip pocket the whole freaking game.
3/14/2012 1:13:36 PM
He dropped 22 points against BC for that very reason. Wood and Leslie must be like ends of a teeter totter. Focus on Leslie and Wood goes off. Focus on Wood, and Leslie dominates.
3/14/2012 1:15:01 PM
and that, my friends, is how the game of basketball works.i'm glad to hear that people on here have realized that wood does not need to score 20 points per game to be effective.]
3/14/2012 1:34:15 PM
oh, there are plenty of people on here who will continue not to get it."Wood only had 6 points? He worthless! All he does is run around and spot up for threes. Bench him! Kick him off the team!!!"
3/14/2012 1:38:35 PM
You guys realize that we lose a lot of games where he's not scoring...right??And then there was the stat they kept throwing up during the ACC tournament that we're like 20-1 when he scores over 12/13 points??Fuck it, I'll look it up.In losses, these are Scott Wood's point totals: 2, 3, 3, 8, 10, 8, 11, 10, 8, 8, and 16 (Indiana). So in every game we lost, Scott Wood scored below his average except for one...which is also a game that completely blew at the end.Games that Scott Wood has played below par and we've won: 8 (UVa tourney), 8 (UNC-A, 1st game of season), 6 (Northeastern...really), 10 (GaTech the 2nd time).Really only UVa and GaTech count as decent teams that we've beat with him playing shitty. So please tell me about all the other things Scott Wood does when he's not scoring...that help us win games. I'm waiting.Bottom line: Can we win without Scott Wood hitting a couple shots and shooting a decent percentage from the field?? Yes...but it's extremely difficult and puts a lot of pressure on the rest of the team to perform well. Basically, CJL has to have a monster game if Wood doesn't hit some threes.
3/14/2012 1:48:56 PM
wait a minute. you're saying that when our players don't score as many points, we don't win as many games?.....I'm intrigued, go on.
3/14/2012 1:50:57 PM
you're right. kick him off the team.
3/14/2012 1:51:50 PM
So *if* we win, any idea what time our game on Saturday is?
3/14/2012 1:54:36 PM
Since that call from his Dad, he's been playing pretty good defense.
3/14/2012 1:54:50 PM
Yeah when you have a Zeller and Henson hanging out down low its easy to just tell Bullock to run everywhere with Wood and do nothing else. The big guys will handle the middle without any help. If you dont have those guys then you have to actually play off and help on Leslie and Brown and that leaves Wood able to get some open looks. Hopefully he will make them and all will be well with the world

3/14/2012 1:56:31 PM
3/14/2012 1:57:58 PM
Is Wood considered a 2 or a 3? It hurts me to watch him dribble more than 3 or 4 feet.
so when a team is good enough to defend us w/o having to cheat off of the perimeter... we lose?well i find this shocking.look at our fucking record. we have 12 losses, only 3 of which are to bad teams. you can put the clemson loss on wood if you want to, where he only had 3 points, but he had 10 in the gt loss and 8 at stanford, which is fine.]
3/14/2012 2:01:57 PM

Scott Wood needs to spend the offseason watching tapes of Steve Novak. When he came into the league, all he could do was shoot, and he rarely played. But he learned to be just mediocre enough defensively to stay on the floor even when he wasn't discount double checking five three's a game. He's a few inches taller than Wood, but 6'10" in the NBA is roughly equivalent to 6'7" in college. Matt Bullard, Robert Horry and others would be good studies as well.
3/14/2012 2:14:57 PM
As of late, it's been CJL that's been scoring at will. He's been an absolute monster near the basket so if SDSU has been watching recent film they are going to focus on him and Brown.I'd really like to see Wood/CJW score more, and I think they'll have to if we are going to win on Friday
3/14/2012 2:24:19 PM
3/14/2012 2:29:01 PM
^ But he started off around 45%...so recently I would say he's shooting below 40%.^^ Yeah...CJW's not hitting his shots has magnified Wood's struggles. You use to be able to count on CJW to knock down his opens threes...but definitely not lately.Would be nice to see both of those guys get back on track for the tournament. Could make us very dangerous.
3/14/2012 2:33:26 PM
Shocker, you tend to lose games when you don't score as many points as usual

3/14/2012 2:43:04 PM
14-1 when wood scores 15+ (loss was to IU)8-11 when he does not
3/14/2012 2:47:39 PM
I would say that Scott Wood is the one giving the entry pass to CJL or Richard Howell at least 50% of the time. Why might they do this you ask? The man guarding Scott Wood, whether homeboy has a good game or fucking not because he is always capable of heating up, cannot come off of him. This keeps other teams from doubling the post from up top giving either big man 1-1 coverage. Where has CJ and Richard made their keep? One on One in the paint. I agree though. Dude doesn't do shit for the offense.

listen guys, this is really what it comes down to: it is not scott wood's fault that he's the only person on this team that can shoot 3s effectively.you can't expect a kid to make 5 3's every single game. it's just not going to happen. the flaw is in the team as a whole, not in scott wood.also: i did not grow up playing basketball, and wasn't a watch-every-game type until i started undergrad. why do i feel like 3/4 of this board flat out does not understand how this game works? do you guys just look at boxscores and complain season after season? you should've learned enough just by accident to not get fuming b/c a guy that's been money for three years has an off game. it's not like he's out there just chucking up bad shots.[Edited on March 14, 2012 at 3:19 PM. ^^ The problem is that he's either putting up good shots, or he's completely shut down and doesn't do anything else of real value. He's not a particularly awesome defender. He's not good enough off the dribble to be a dribble/drive threat. The absolute best thing he can offer if he's getting shut down on offense is pulling one of their 2 or 3 position guys out on the wing, which isn't that awesome for spreading out the interior of their defense. When he's on, he's great. But when he spends the whole game shut down his minutes aren't really that helpful. That said, I love him. I don't expect him to be able to single-handedly destroy other teams. But he is awfully one dimensional.

^^ I feel like playing 5 on 5 basketball with another player on the floor who can produce in that situation is better than playing 4 on 4 basketball on offense. Especially considering that even in that case their fifth man is likely going to produce some points in the game. I know the problem is that we don't really have anyone to fill that position.
3/14/2012 3:39:08 PM
I'm pretty sure he still leads the ACC in 3-pt percentages. Arguably, that's because the beginning of the season pushed him pretty high, but he still connects on a good portion of them. He's a great player. He just needs to be able to snap himself out of a slump. If he hits the first bucket, we're golden. If he misses the first one, it gets in his head. I also think he's more dangerous before he gets his feet set, and he's got to play to that strength.[Edited on March 14, 2012 at 3:44 PM. Reason : I also think everyone here knows I <3 Scott Wood.]

The first shot is the biggest shot of the game for him. He makes it he can hit the more difficult shots later in the game. That being said CJW not hitting ANYTHING from outside can't help either.

^^^ You just act like we're blaming and hating on Scott Wood. Which we're not (at least I'm not). I'm just pointing out facts. He plays well, we win. He doesn't play well, we have a hard time winning. Done. end of discussion.Duh, it's not his fault he's the only good 3-point shooter on the team. No shit. What does that have to do with this discussion?Let's just hope he hits his open threes and becomes an NCAA tourney legend.[Edited on March 14, 2012 at 3:53 PM. Reason : .]

If he would shave the pubes that he's had the last few interviews off his face he'll be much more aerodynamic through the shooting motion.
3/14/2012 4:01:19 PM
3/14/2012 4:03:07 PM
The fortunate thing here is that most teams don't have a tall athletic wing (e.g. Reggie Bullock) that they can lend to face-guarding Wood all game. I think he'll be fine. If you look at the last few games, only the UNC game did he really have fits (0-4 3PA). Even the UVA game he was serviceable, and they play pretty damn good defense.
3/14/2012 4:06:42 PM
^The four point play at the end of the half was the difference maker. It gave us a lot of momentum going into the second half.
