This is an argument I never made. I said Phil needed "multiple" Hall of famers, which he has had the good fortune of having.

And he's also had the good fortune of having those hall of famers in their competitive primes, unlike his predecessors. I'm not about to defend Del Harris though, that guy was awful.

I don't think our opinions are too different JHC, I just think its funny that Jackson wins title after title and people say he's overrated

and Del Harris was a solid coach in Milwaukee, not that that has anything to do with anything

Rondo must feel like Maravich in high school right about now

He's making NBA level passes and guys like Jermaine O'Neal are still high school players

What does Wade have to do to get in trouble?

Pierce got thrown out of game 1 for Wade's flagrant foul.

Rondo was probably still a little banged up from getting ran over by the train (no call) and gets rock bottomed by Wade for no call.

Wade still making dirty plays on Rallen.

Not 1 technical.

just saw the end of the laker game. lakers went to odom to try to exploit peja and failed down the stretch. fisher and odom turned the ball over. fisher, bynum and gasol were complete liabilities on defense. The lack of ability to defend and help left peja and terry wide open for critical threes. Dallas ends up getting fouled and makes critical points from the foul line down the stretch. That fisher foul on terry was the worst i've seen in years. Lakers don't have the athleticism to get to the boards. Bynum is a complete waste of space if you are going up against a team with a good center. Artest was missed

I love watching Rondo play

also...........IF...the Lakers win game 4..and go back to LA...we'll have to start the discussion about one MLB team ever coming back from down 3-0 (Boston v. NYY) and a couple times in hockey, but never in the NBA

can't wait to see Mark Cuban crying when Kobe's bitch ass takes him out in 7 games

Its not Gasol's fault. Obviously bynum being their best player isn't a winning style of basketball Andrew Bynum is not dominant against teams that have a real center and therefore isn't as useful in this series and hurts the lakers actually by forcing gasol to move to the 4. Put gasol at five and let odom and artest play the forward positions and guard dirk. kobe can move to 3 if they both go out and then you can play barnes and brown behind kobe at the 2.

Basically, odom, artest, bryant need to see 40+ minutes if the lakers are going to show any sense of urgency.

you guys look at the points bynum scores early in the game and dont consider him not scoring down the stretch, not opening up the defense with jumpshooting ability and not being a versatile defender.

[Edited on May 8, 2011 at 3:34 PM. Reason : bynum clogs the paint for drivers and can only guard chandler/haywood]

[Edited on May 8, 2011 at 3:40 PM. Reason : lakers will trade bynum after this season. mark my words]

bynum has been the best Laker in the playoffs overall and in this series. to say otherwise is false and therefore silly.

You are correct that the Lakers need Odom on the floor more though

Nope, Gasol has had a horrible playoffs, no doubt there. I don't think he's done though, because he had a solid regular season. But he's been non existent in the postseason this year.

Doesn't change the fact he was the best player on a title team the past two seasons.

I think the press is overreacting a bit with the lakers blowing the team up as they do as policy but they probably do need to make some significant changes

they should prob trade one of their key guys (odom, bynum, gasol) but I'm not sure which one, gasol is really fading right now for some reason but that would mean putting their post in the hands of bynum who is injury prone, trading bynum on the other hand would be tough since he is the younger guy and playing better right now, I'm not sure I get this dwight howard talk because their problem isn't post play, it seems they need to get some quicker, better guys on the perimeter, that would prob mean getting rid of fisher who doesn't really have any business being in the nba right now

That's precisely why Dallas is such a great bet today. The data says Dallas wins today about 64% of the time. Therefore Dallas should be about -190. For some reason they are only -125, which is clearly a huge edge for betting on Dallas.

The key to successful gambling is not thinking about things that don't matter and just do exactly what the data tells you to do.

^^

Trading Bynum is pretty crazy because he's a great young player and you most likely won't get fair value for him because of the injuries.

Gasol you could probably get fair value for if you found a team trying to win immediately, but it might be tougher after this postseason.

Odom you definitely can't get fair value for because people don't recognize he's one of the best players in the league for some reason.

They obviously need an upgrade at PG. I mean Barea is one of the worst backup PG's I've ever seen get minutes in a playoff series and he almost looks adequate against the Lakers.

If they really want to get their mojo back they should trade Kobe. He'd trade for a huge premium to a team desperate for a "star" (in recognition, obviously he's not a star player anymore) and they could get significant talent upgrades for him while dumping his huge salary.

But that'll never happen because from the business side it makes no sense to trade Kobe.

haha well if they can get dwight howard then yeah you ship Bynum immediately but what do they have to trade for howard??

Bynum, odom, brown, and a first rounder for howard and a shitty contract?

I dont know if Orlando would do the deal. Maybe if the Lakers could find a way to rid Orlando of Arenas they'd do it

Yes Dallas has five ELITE shooters that cannot be left open which is an insane amount. Most teams have 1 or 2 guys like that and the lakers have zero.

With that said, the lakers still aren't playing ANY defense on the perimeter. There is no reason Terry should be wide open every time he touches the ball. Who is requiring a double team on Dallas? Nobody on LA can stop pg penetration. Thats why Paul almost beat them singlehandedly even though they had no bigs.

People want to say that Dallas is going to win it all but I think the lakers are just playing down under the mavs instead of the mavs playing at a level well above the lakers. Don't get me wrong, the mavs are a super team with an awesome roster that compares to the top teams (la, miami, boston, chicago) but I have a hard time believing any of those other teams would leave shooters wide open, let dirk go off AND struggle offensively against the mavs. I think the other teams would do 1 of those three things at the most.

It is unlikely Orlando will be a tough bargainer considering Howard will leave for nothing after one season if he really wants to go somehwere. With that said, Bynum and some bench players/picks for Howard and some unwanted player straight up

[Edited on May 8, 2011 at 4:25 PM. Reason : i doubt la would take arenas since they could still try to trade for paul]

[Edited on May 8, 2011 at 4:28 PM. Reason : la would try to 1up everyones big3 with paul+kobe+howard]

^ well don't forget the 3pointer wasnt even in the game until 1979 or so. It took awhile before anyone besides Dale Ellis was really a sharpshooter too.

I'm not even sure Dallas will be the favorite against OKC/Memphis. They might be the favorite in Vegas, but not in reality.

And I'm positive Dallas won't be the favorite against Miami if they upset OKC/Memphis

I'm not sure why people are so surprised by what is going on. They've been on cruise control all season. The Lakers look mentally spent after going down 0-3. No Panic in their voices, no leadership. Trust issues. A coach who just doesn't care anymore. Only one player who gives a damn and no help from the supporting cast. They've shown all the signs of a team that is just flat-out finished. This team is going to undergo some drastic changes during what will likely be an extra long offseason.

The Lakers and the Spurs are both going to need some major tweaking. The West might be wide open for the next couple of seasons (although I don't expect the Lakers to be down for long). It should be interesting, though.

Oh, and this game/series totally re-enforces my opinion of Phil Jackson. It shouldn't take an online degree in Eastern Philosophy to get the two-time defending champs up for such an important game. This is complete disaster of a post-season. Bye-bye Phil, looks like your luck finally ran-up. Better cash out now. Hey, who knows, maybe Miami will have a job opening after Spoelstra gets shit-canned for not making the NBA finals

Kind of ironic for bynum and odom to go out like that. They must know and be frustrated with the fact that they won't be back with the lakers next season.

Can we just cancel the game now before Artest 1ups them?

well this is still one of my favorite nba games of all time

dallas has been a little lucky I got to admit, LA def should have won game 1 but when dallas stole that, the lakers just totally collapsed, plus this 3 pt shooting is insane, I'm surprised this isn't the team record; I don't think dallas can win the title however unless butler makes a magical comeback

I think I heard there was some rumor that Gasol blamed kobe for breaking up his marriage or something, seems like there is some more serious stuff than just usual drama going on

also I'll add bynum is developing in to the dirtiest player in the nba
