It's looking like they're going to resort to spraying the reactors with concrete... or at least #4.http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapcf/03/21/japan.nuclear.reactors/index.html?hpt=T2
3/21/2011 3:27:05 AM
At least Japan has plenty on concrete laying around.
3/21/2011 7:10:51 AM
I have donated to relief effortsMy company has matched my donation

I kind of fell in love with JapanI don't give a fuck about anime and nerdy otaku shitbut the Japanese are incredible people with a rich and interesting cultureand Tokyo is like NYC but friendly and sufficiently weird
3/21/2011 7:50:39 AM
do they have reasonable hotel accommodations for people taller than 6'?
3/21/2011 8:02:15 AM
haha not exactly my Dad is 6'2" and he gets around just fine though
3/21/2011 8:03:39 AM
Yeah, I'd like an update on the reactors from some unfiltered news source.WTF is going on

3/22/2011 10:38:57 AM
I miss Japan already
3/22/2011 11:08:15 AM
Don't worry, that feeling fades the longer you live there http://www.myfoxphilly.com/dpps/news/japan-earthquake-bank-robbery-dpgapx-20110322-fc_12429687I wouldn't mind a half million dollars right now.
3/22/2011 11:19:44 AM
The entire coastline is a big mess of rubble right now, it's terrible but a looter could probably do pretty good at the moment. Just have enough water and food for a loong time.
3/22/2011 12:26:12 PM
^it's interesting how they have virtually no accounts of looting on the news.
3/25/2011 12:27:59 AM
There have been reports of roving bands of ronin beheading looters.
3/25/2011 12:28:41 AM
They have looters but unlike America they are smart enough to keep it off the news. And who cares if someone is stealing from a house that is a total loss...oh yea Americans.

I saw that on the news this morning....I couldn't even figure out how they did it.Still can't
3/25/2011 9:38:04 AM
When most of your rural employment is in the construction business it's probably easy
3/25/2011 9:55:59 AM
wow 6 days? It takes a month to fix a damn pot hole here.
3/25/2011 9:56:45 AM
America the entire WORLD can learn something from Japan's reaction to this tragic event. Good for the Japanese in picking up the broken bits and slowly getting it all back together. You know, after Egypt and Katrina and a couple other events, I have little faith in the humanity's ability to keep their their head high and approach a terrible situation with dignity. The world should take example of the Japanese. [Edited on March 25, 2011 at 10:02 AM. Reason : .]

I'll be interested to see if they bother to rebuild some of these towns. A lot of them were on the brink of becoming ghost towns in the first place.
3/25/2011 10:04:22 AM
They will eventually build around them like the castle(s) in Tokyo
3/25/2011 10:08:21 AM
i never understood how the ground just happened to tear up right along the lanes of the road

I saw a lame fundraiser for Japan on Fayetteville Street today. About 8 college aged kids in red shirts with a sign saying Donate to Japan, but none of them were actively engaging people. Couldn't even tell where to put the money if you wanted to donate. By the time I finished lunch they were gone. As someone who has coordinated fundraisers, I really hope they weren't State students because that shit was embarrassing.
3/25/2011 4:35:20 PM
Yes, because the third largest economy in the world needs the spare change of people leaving the Big Easy.
3/25/2011 4:37:45 PM
Doesn't matter who the fundraiser is for, if you're going to have one at least put effort into it
3/25/2011 4:39:12 PM
The change isn't spare ok?[Edited on March 25, 2011 at 4:40 PM. Reason : They ate at the Big Easy with the intent on paying in cash and donating the change]
3/25/2011 4:39:42 PM
The money isn't going to help anyone. They're just doing it so they can sleep well tonight and then one day brag about doing disaster relief.
3/25/2011 4:40:53 PM
Oh I'm positive that's why they were doing it. They'll probably boo hoo on their Facebook on how ungenerous people downtown are too.
3/25/2011 4:43:22 PM
I want you all to know that we, Japanese, really appreciate all the support from you. It will take years to fully recover from the devastation of earthquake and tsunami, but I'm sure we'll do so. Again, thank you for your physical and mental support!

absolutely unreal watching this town get completely wiped out in about 4 minutes.
3/28/2011 10:22:09 AM
i've always heard that before a tsunami hits the water goes out from the beach and then rushes back in as the tsunami wave. has anyone found video of this phenomenon?
3/28/2011 10:57:05 AM
there's good footage of the beaches in Indonesia before the tsunamithe beaches were HUGE because the water had gone away before rushing back in[Edited on March 28, 2011 at 11:01 AM. Reason : I could look for it but I'm lazy]

^http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-8_wEm7t8kcheck out the beginning of this video - it shows exactly what you want at the beginning. I watched some special on it where they talked about how a lot of the children that were locals died because when the water receded they were running up and grabbing the fish that were left on the sand.Chuck Norris at the 1:12 mark of the video[Edited on March 28, 2011 at 11:07 AM. I'm still amazed at the incredible energy pushing that water like it did. Incredible.I wonder if these people standing on tops of buildings ever got scared after they saw the 3rd and 4th floors of the buildings they were on get submerged.
3/28/2011 11:57:51 AM
^ i'm sure they didwould've scared the shit out of me. what is still so insane to me was that it all happened in about 4 minutes.
