So, last night I was bad bc it was my birthday, and I drank 3 glasses of wine and ate a quarter of a piece of Godiva cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory (bad idea when you're lactose intolerant). Ugh. I feel godawful. But I weighed in this morning and my weight hasn't budged,

Here's my nutrition from yesterday:

I went WAY over on protein and a little over on calories. And I'm already at 73% of my protein intake for today.

I am pretty sure that if I can do a 5x5 bench of my bodyweight, then I'll look the way I want.

My physical therapist yelled at me today for doing that spartan workout. I'm not supposed to be working my hamstring.

I guess it's upper body or bust until this heals.

I need to do yoga. My flexibility is terrible.

It's ironic, since I have a black belt in Taekwondo. I used to be able to put my feet over my head.

This is me.

SORRY LADIES, I'M TAKEN.
Age: 24
Height/Weight: 5'6"/120
I'd like to gain some muscle.
Workout routine: NONE yet. On vacation. I'll start when I get back home. Probably a lot of upper body exercises. And there is a racquetball court at my apartment complex, so I'll be doing some of that, too.
Diet: Pretty much whatever I want, I eat. I try to keep it relatively healthy, but I could probably do better. I still have the ubermetabolism of a teenager, so I figure I'd better enjoy it while it lasts.

Its ok to go over on protein as long as you adjust the rest of your calories. Thanks porcha it means a lot coming from someone that has done the same. You know how hard this shit is.

^^

You will be able to accomplish drastic results (like +20-30lbs lean) in 3 months if you have been underfed for years. squat, bench, press, deadlift and sleep.

Good luck!

I don't understand what you're saying. You're basically just saying that I shouldn't exceed my calorie limit, right?

And after lunch, I will be 50% over my protein limit. With a ceviche dinner planned.

Why is your "limit" set at ~10 percent of your calories from protein?

I'm pretty sure you could do that without even appearing very muscular at all. How close are you to getting that now?

[Edited on May 26, 2010 at 11:59 AM. Reason : i.e., a strength goal like that is a pretty tangential tie-in to aesthetics]

^^ I didn't realize I could adjust the limits. I'll look into this.

^^^

Not good ... just planks and surfing (surfing is a core workout)

And the birthday glasses of wine have been a bit detrimental to my stomach ... it was poochier this morning

I think my last "best" was like 1x140. I have pathetically weak pectorals.

------------------------

^^If you don't mind doing "mind-numbing exercises," an ab wheel or roller is a really tough workout.

Plus, they're cheap: http://www.amazon.com/Valeo-VA2413RE-Dual-Ab-Wheel/dp/B0007IS74G/

You can do the moderately difficult exercises: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3laF2XjZ0g

i'd shoot for 1g protein per 1lb lean body weight to preserve as much muscle as possible while in a deficit. I have no science evidence behind this, just going off personal experience and recommendations. IIRC, nutritionists call for even less protein for someone looking to lose weight. Really though, I find that only the total calories consumed actually determine my weight loss and the macros aren't as important. I typically eat at least 180g protein/day and the rest of my cals are a mix of fats/carbs from as healthy sources as possible.

no pooch there ladies...I look like a deflated pregnant woman when I'm on top

optimally, I'd like to get this lean again...this was about 195lbs @ 13% bf...I'm probably closer to 15-16% now and 20lbs heavier...so in 2 months...195, very doable and probably at a lower bf. The pooch gets worse the lower I go though. This was from Jan 2009...I've put on a good bit of muscle in the past 1.5 years and almost doubled my strength in that span. Going on 2 years of serious lifting and dieting now.

As far as gaining strength on the bench, I significantly increased my bench since the beginning of this year. In Jan 2009 I was at 300lbs flat, now I'm up near 335. I credit alot of it to learning a better form and really utilizing the full body for the movement, my butt doesn't touch the bench anymore on flat/decline. Incline still lags behind. I also went as heavy as possible and only did 8 working reps for the specific bench angle. 5 reps, increase weight, 3 reps, increase weight, 1 rep..done. I'd then continue at that specific angle but swap to a 5x5 weight for a fly motion. So a total of 6 exercises on a chest day, 1 press at each angle, 1 fly at each angle. Swapping from machines/dbs/bbs to keep things interesting.

when you said floor wipers I was thinking towel drag...

i<3k, that's another good one for ab work I think - you put a small towel on the ground and get in push up position (with your knees on the towel) and drag it across the floor by walking your hands forward

it's a lot harder than it sounds

How are we going to do that?

Well I guess I need to enter, my gf wants me to stop complaining about how I look since she's pregnant so time to get back into shape.

I'm 5'10", 195 last time I weighed myself.

I don't have a camera but I'm pretty flabby so the first thing I will go for is probably cardio 4 days a week and weights 3 days doing legs, chest/arms, and core.

I'll see what I can do about pictures, my goal is probably not losing the weight but losing fat/building muscle simultaneously. I may even weigh more as long as I can get rid of the beer belly.

No back=FAIL

A dedicated shoulders day is much better than ever purposefully working arms, too. Your arms will get enough of a beating by working chest, back and shoulders...but at a bare minimum, you should include just as much back work as chest work.

The point is that he is a guy who is fucking dedicated.

I mean, goddamn. Do you realize that for Terminator 3, Arnold Schwarzenegger worked out for six months, about three hours a day, before shooting started, by which time he had the exact same body weight and muscle measurements as he had 12 years previously while shooting Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991).
