but they've had fun!
8/13/2011 2:30:49 PM
Ernie you're forgetting about our back to back College World Series championships
8/13/2011 2:31:43 PM
^Was about to post that. And of course Ernie completely missed the point. Right now we are better off than SC was when they made the move.
8/13/2011 2:33:19 PM
8/13/2011 2:34:45 PM
SC basketball is a joke though, and Spurrier has a lot more to do with their recent football success than just being a member of the SECseems like your pleas of the benefits of joining the SEC are predicated on our fanbase sitting through 15 years of shittiness before we get somewhere
8/13/2011 2:35:27 PM
You think Spurrier would have taken that job if they were in the ACC and still had a 50,000 seat stadium instead of an 80,000 one?
8/13/2011 2:36:25 PM
Butch Davis took the job at UNC, so who the hell knows
8/13/2011 2:37:00 PM
So SC's (relative) football success will continue beyond the Spurrier era?
8/13/2011 2:37:08 PM
yeah i guess Ernie's talked me out of it. dammit.honestly though, i think the ACC is in more trouble than it realizes, and it is not impervious to an ugly breakup. i think there's value to taking a guaranteed future over staying in the ACC.
8/13/2011 2:38:37 PM
^^ easily could
8/13/2011 2:40:08 PM
I don't know the entirety of the ACC's financial situation, but from poking around on the site I linked to earlier, it looks like most programs are losing cash fast. State lost more than $1m last year. Moving to the SEC wouldn't solve that -- Auburn, for instance, lost nearly half a mil last year.
8/13/2011 2:40:27 PM
How about another point since you don't like that one, since we all hate UNC and Duke so much, you don't think it would be great to give them a big middle finger and leave the conference that they control? At least we would get more fair officiating in both sports.
8/13/2011 2:40:35 PM
^^ well, they did have to pay Cam and all...[Edited on August 13, 2011 at 2:41 PM. Reason : d]
8/13/2011 2:40:54 PM
I'd rather try to beat Duke and UNC than run away from them. You're teetering on the SFN lunatic fringe with the Zionist UNC conspiracy crap[Edited on August 13, 2011 at 2:43 PM. Reason : You sound like a pussy, packbrozie]
8/13/2011 2:42:31 PM
If we left the acc we would be seen as pussies tired of getting their shit pushed in by unc-ch and duke in bball.[Edited on August 13, 2011 at 2:46 PM. Reason : Can't type]
8/13/2011 2:44:03 PM
Anyway, we know NC State flirting with the SEC would go down like this
8/13/2011 2:46:20 PM
Everett Case should come back from the dead and revoke boozie's basketball season tickets
8/13/2011 2:46:29 PM
So you all like the way the ACC is run by UNC alum John Swofford? A man that shouldn't have a job, especially if the conference loses schools and doesn't gain any. [Edited on August 13, 2011 at 2:47 PM. Reason : ]
8/13/2011 2:46:54 PM
Go to packpride with that shitDo not come back
8/13/2011 2:47:16 PM
^^no, but leaving isn't the answer imo
8/13/2011 2:48:03 PM
Even Clemson and FSU bolt I doubt the ACC just sits around with a thumb up their ass. We'd probably start poaching some of the more respectable football schools out of the Big East (again).
8/13/2011 3:06:02 PM
if we lost FSU and Clemson, and brought in two basketball schools, ie UConn and some other non-football power, and put them in the Atlantic division, we'd be the preseason favorite to win the division on paper most seasons
8/13/2011 3:07:41 PM
if they brought in UConn, they wouldnt have to change their oval logo, just update the diamonds .. although they might chop off FL[Edited on August 13, 2011 at 3:09 PM. Reason : ]
8/13/2011 3:08:56 PM
if they chopped off Florida after FSU left, Miami would be like "wtf?"
8/13/2011 3:11:39 PM
see thats how much i dont care about miami

8/13/2011 3:13:51 PM
i rofl everytime he goes Im haahngry
8/13/2011 3:16:08 PM
Ahhh, as much as I despise UNC and Duke, I'd much rather play them multiple times a year than be in another conference. Even if their damn alum is the worst conference commissioner ever. I mean, I've thoroughly enjoyed whooping the heels in football the past 4 years. Would hate to lose that good times feelin'.But either way, the point was made, the SEC ain't lookin at State. We aren't gonna have the choice. Nope, we're gonna be stuck scrambling trying to poach two decent schools from other leagues. UConn wouldn't be bad. Probably be tough to get anyone out of the Big East at this point though...
8/13/2011 3:53:37 PM
8/13/2011 6:05:03 PM
Why would they take clemson? They haven't been really good in a few years.
8/13/2011 7:16:37 PM
VPISU is the obvious choice for an SEC expansion from the ACC. There will be considerable resistance to add FSU from Florida and probably Georgia just because of recruiting.
8/13/2011 7:36:49 PM
VT prez/ad/someone said they would "politely decline" an invitation from the SEC but we know that nothing anyone like that ever says is final
8/13/2011 7:39:17 PM
^^ this.VT or UMD from the ACC if the SEC wants an ACC school. It's about expanding tv contracts, no need for another florida or south carolina team.
8/13/2011 7:52:22 PM
see that's what i'm talking about, i don't think it has anything to do w/ getting into new tv markets, i think it has more to do with getting more overall fans, so that they can demand more from espn for national broadcasts, not so they can nickle and dime local network affiliates.[Edited on August 13, 2011 at 8:17 PM. Reason : i could be wrong, it's not like i've had a chat w/ anyone from the SEC]
8/13/2011 8:16:39 PM
also, i don't know why any rational NCSU fan would want to go to the SEC. we would get the absolute shit kicked out of us in football and our basketball recruiting would definitely suffer from not being in the ACC and playing against UNC/Duke.lose/lose.
8/13/2011 8:33:14 PM
8/13/2011 8:47:35 PM
Id take being in that division any day
8/13/2011 8:50:40 PM
Perhaps then we should move to CUSA or the Sun Belt
8/13/2011 8:52:33 PM
Why the hell would any NC State fan want to leave the ACC? North Carolina is the ACC. Some people like to delude themselves into thinking that we are awesome in football and that a move to the SEC would not result in a severe ass kicking. I can't imagine any team north of Clemson leaving the conference.
8/13/2011 9:00:41 PM
^don't worry, Inside carolina is making the same very dumb suggestions about UNC
8/13/2011 9:14:20 PM
Its not that we could do well in football. Its the idea that we would improve with all the sec money and lack of restrictions. Also, getting out of the duke/unc shadow would help us out A LOT in basketball.
8/13/2011 9:27:27 PM
So if we can't be as good as Duke and UNC, who are rivals since we started playing hoops, we should just pack up and move to a shittier conference? Sorry. Don't buy it.Personally, I don't want to change conferences just so we can make a little more money and admit less qualified students.
8/13/2011 9:48:10 PM
If Clemson and Missouri join the SEC they should team up with LSU and Auburn to form the Tigers division
8/13/2011 10:03:05 PM
damn forgot about that
8/13/2011 10:06:33 PM
8/13/2011 10:19:36 PM
no way in hell should we or will we move to the SEC[Edited on August 13, 2011 at 10:31 PM. Reason : Everette Case is rolling in his grave right now]
8/13/2011 10:30:47 PM
He's rolling because you misspelled his name...
8/13/2011 10:54:55 PM
State is not going to the SEC. On the other-hand, with A&M leaving and the SEC possibly wooing some more schools, the Big 12 would likely be gone. I wonder if that will lead to a feeding frenzy like last year, and if the ACC would be likely to try to expand.
8/13/2011 11:07:40 PM
No matter what happens, I hope somehow Swofford gets the boot.
