I am a smoker and i have never cared about having to change clothes mid-day because one set smells like smoke. It's not like it is some epiphanal idea that cigarettes make your clothes/hair smell like smoke. It's kinda like how i go to work and leave smelling like food. You deal with it or you go change clothes if you don't want to smell that way.I also just made up the word epiphanal, by the way. In as much as I am aware that it isn't a real word anyway.

Don't get me wrong, I've never cared enough to not go somewhere because it is smokey, but it is nice to not have to deal with it as much anymore (not that I agree with the ban or how it is being executed)

If you look up the definition of news in the dictionary, it isn't what you watch on TV.

News is something that happens that matters to you, which is not most of what we watch on television.

to be clear, I was referring to segregation in restaurants, not schools.

Without deadlines and restrictions I just tend to become preoccupied with other things.

What Christ gives us is quite explicit if his own words are interpreted according to their Aramaic meaning. The expression 'This is my Body' means this is myself.

wait, I thought that Jackpot was a private club? Or at least it was at one time (charged a one time $1 fee, and you signed into a log)
1/3/2010 5:55:32 PM
oh lawd do we have to explain this again
1/3/2010 5:56:12 PM
perhaps, I haven't really been paying much attention for obvious reasons is it because they serve food?

We might say that the state is like an addictive drug: the more of it we have, the more we 'need' it and the more we come to 'depend' on it.

Among the weeds choking out growth and good government are the hundreds of boards, commissions, and advisory committees that have sprouted over the years. They devour time, money, and energy far beyond any real contribution they make.

^I am in favor of bars not allowing smoking until say 10 or 11 pm, where most families with children would have already left after dining...of course thats way too risky for the government apparently

We only went to one restaurant when we were back in Charlotte. The second I stepped into Fox and Hound, Gina and I noticed the smell of smoke, just cause we weren't used to it. But, as it has been said already in this thread..... we quickly dismissed it because we aren't humongous vaginas.

Technically, as I understand it as a former employee, a blue law "private club" can sell food, but only a certain percentage of its sales/profits can come from that; the rest must come from booze. But that's largely irrelevant to the fact that Bev Perdue is a, ah, unpleasant woman who should be ridden out of town on a rail.
1/4/2010 2:55:23 AM
Basically, if you don't serve food you need to be a private club to get a liquor license.Beer alone is fine if you don't serve food.
1/4/2010 2:59:45 AM
If less than 30% of your total sales is food, you have to be a "private club" by the ALE standards. In order to be a "private club" according to the smoking ban, you have to be a non-profit club that is owned and run by the membership.

^^ I'm only talking about the ALE definition; the smoking law definition is pretty clear.
1/4/2010 3:04:50 AM
Well the ALE definition is that if you serve spiritous liquor, and food is not more than 30% of your total sales as an establishment, you must be a private club with a membership requirement that does not allow patrons to enter that are not members or guests of members. It's a little more complicated than "if you don't serve food you have to be a private club".

After much consideration and introspection, I would like to now side with the "government, get the fuck out of private business" side, including sanitation as well. This article was key at getting me to switch sideshttp://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/04/health/04meat.html?pagewanted=3&_r=1

Can you smoke on patios legally? like the big one at Sammys? (its not really "enclosed" due to those rolling doors)

Hey guyz, what's this emphysema stuff everyone keeps talking about? I heard it's just an urban legend that you can get it from smoking cigarettes.
1/4/2010 10:37:02 AM
obviously smoking a shitload your whole life is bad for youobviously smoking at all is taking on a riskthe funny thing is that a lot of people in this very thread are railing on and on about smokers like a bunch of self righteous pricks, not realizing that the massive amount of alcohol they stream down their gullets does a fuck load of damage to their bodies (probably much more than casual/occasional smoking)it's so funny to see all of the anger, though. people are so fucking angry about smokers that they fantasize about violence and hope the smokers die of horrible diseases. boy that sounds normal and well-adjusted!
