3/19/2010 8:39:10 AM

3/19/2010 10:48:00 AM
mgmt - congratulations is out there. only halfway through and this is A LOT different than the debut.[Edited on March 19, 2010 at 7:23 PM. Reason : and the new here we go magic is groovy.]
3/19/2010 7:07:03 PM
http://www.mediafire.com/?0akmmyxdzzdGet it before they take it down.It kinda sucks.[Edited on March 19, 2010 at 10:15 PM. Reason : link]
3/19/2010 10:14:53 PM
^ i just listened to it for the first time. there are a few stand out tracks, but right now "flash delirium" still comes across as the best, which is a little disappointing considering it was the first single, but that could change for me in time. i didn't like it as much as the first time i listened to oracular spectacular, but i enjoyed it far more than the new yeasayer...[Edited on March 19, 2010 at 11:25 PM. 3/19/2010 11:25:20 PM
my what.cd ratio is terrible and i don't really know what to do to improve it other than try and find software or top 40 shit like the second it comes out.I do have a couple random metal albums that i've downloaded [bands that i don't think are that popular] but i have a couple gigs uploaded just on those while the rest sit with 2 seeders 0 leechers for like 3 months at a timeI'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.
3/19/2010 11:37:54 PM
^ i was gonna suggest this to dannydigtl earlier but...what worked well for me initially was if you click "torrents" at the top of the page and then click a couple genres (pop, rock, country, hip hop usually work well) and then click "filter torrents." then sort the results by seeders (downwards arrow) and just download whatever the most popular stuff is. a lot of times there will be top 40 shit on there. it kinda sucks that you have to waste space on your HD with stuff you dont actually want, but it helps your ratio a ton. katy perry was so money for me when her album came out in 2008.[Edited on March 19, 2010 at 11:45 PM. Reason : .]
3/19/2010 11:44:43 PM
Yeah i was doing that for a while, but in general shit had like 1800 seeders and like 40 leechers, i know that adds up over time but i want to upload a thousand gigs over night :oI'm AstralAdvent and i approved this message.
3/19/2010 11:45:48 PM
idk what else to tell you then. it just takes time, but i'll probably never have problems with my ratio.
3/19/2010 11:49:18 PM
anyone else listen to the new here we go magic yet? this thing is good.
3/20/2010 8:57:25 AM
Rival Schools is releasing another album this year Last and only album was 2001, so im stoked.
3/20/2010 9:33:49 AM
i like the mgmt recordbut if you're looking for fun pop songs go somewhere elseit's nice and moody, a lot like the back half of oracular spectacular but not as hooky ]
3/20/2010 10:55:16 AM
I don't mind that the new MGMT record is less "fun"; in fact I thought they were trying too hard to be "fun" on their last record and as a result, only two or three of the songs left a lasting impression.I just feel like this new one is sort of directionless and stagnant. For the first four tracks, it's somewhat OK, but then I got to track 7 and still hadn't heard one memorable melody. It seemed to drag. But that's only after one listen--I'll give it another chance.
3/20/2010 11:18:28 AM
i grabbed the MGMT record when you had the link up. havent had a chance to listen yet tho, ive bought and dl so many new albums recently that im way behind hah
3/20/2010 12:38:42 PM
new MGMT record: do not like
3/20/2010 1:04:34 PM
3/20/2010 1:33:24 PM
i feel like he's gotten a little more humble, at least in my personal interactions with him. definitely has the reputation as a douche thoughthe new album will get pretty huge imo.. he played the master for me and it's really good all the way through. catchy, well balanced, great melodies, great production
3/20/2010 1:38:51 PM
3/20/2010 1:43:27 PM
Any possibility of someone resharing the MGMT album?
3/20/2010 1:46:21 PM
stu's not a bad guy, but his ego definitely gets the best of him sometimes
3/20/2010 2:50:10 PM
liking the new MGMT a lot more the second time through
3/20/2010 3:08:39 PM
Jonsi from Sigur Ros covers MGMT "Time To Pretend"http://jonsi.com/news/jonsi-covers-mgmtNot really that interesting though
3/20/2010 7:38:33 PM
Yeah it's pretty boring.
3/20/2010 7:44:46 PM
i'm not sure what to think of stu--he came up and randomly talked to me at a show last year, and he seemed kinda nice, but i don't know.
3/20/2010 11:10:04 PM
Thanks DillyDaliat. For some reason the mediafire link wouldn't let me dl it this morning. I don't know how to feel about the actual album. It certainly isn't bad music. It's worth listening to. Everything gives me a "surfer" vibe (without the guitar). Considering the front cover features surfing, I guess it makes sense.
3/21/2010 2:37:54 AM
3/21/2010 8:58:45 AM
I'd recommend Shearwater live. Dude's got the crazy eyes.
3/21/2010 10:35:33 AM
i like congratulations, but it took a few listens for some of the songs to start grabbing me.
3/21/2010 11:10:54 AM
its ok. Im not a huge fan, but Ive only listened to it 2x
3/21/2010 11:31:20 AM
the worst thing about it is the 12 minute song in the middle. doesn't fit at all with the rest of the album IMO.
3/21/2010 1:13:40 PM
^ yeah, but it's almost like several different songs, so it's not so bad if you look at it that way.
3/21/2010 1:46:17 PM
dudes in rock bands are supposed to be dicks because they are, in fact, cooler than dudes not in bands. get over it you farts.
3/21/2010 7:24:29 PM
Can somebody send me an invite to what.cd if its not too much trouble.
3/21/2010 10:30:54 PM
i used to get invites but not anymore. i think they made it so you have to upload 5 torrents now instead of just 1 like it used to be, and i've been too lazy to do it. maybe if no one else can give you one i will look into it.
3/21/2010 10:32:44 PM
i've got a few.. first people to pm me will get some
3/22/2010 2:50:32 AM
new holy fuck songhttp://pitchfork.com/forkcast/14047-latin-america/can't say im a huge fan of this band's studio entity....but their live shows are an amazing thing to behold.
3/22/2010 3:01:19 AM
New Hold Steady song on Pitchfork as well...http://pitchfork.com/news/38234-premiere-hold-steady-hurricane-j/Slightly disappointing.
3/22/2010 8:06:25 PM
i've really tried to get into the hold steadybut i can't get past the dude's voicei get infuriated almost immediately and have to turn it offprobably makes me shallow, but whatever
3/22/2010 8:22:38 PM
I didn't at first either. But I'm used to it by now; they're one of my favorite bands, easy. I came for the lyrics and I stayed for the Replacements-influenced riffs.Plus, it probably depends on which album you're listening to. His voice might be slightly more tolerable on Separation Sunday than the last two records (although I think all their records are great).[Edited on March 22, 2010 at 8:40 PM. Reason : .]
3/22/2010 8:39:09 PM
the hold steady is so bad it hurts.
3/22/2010 10:24:02 PM
Bullshit.
3/22/2010 10:34:57 PM
my bad
3/22/2010 10:36:56 PM
I used to hate The Hold Steady, then I got really into them. From about six months after that until the present, I fucking hate them.
3/22/2010 11:10:10 PM
Craig Finn is a masterful songwriter. To me, that's the thing that sets The Hold Steady apart and makes them great. Once you buy into his lyrics and the delivery of them, you can deal with and even get into the bar-rock vibe of their records. Like I said, the way they play music isn't so much different from the way The Replacements did. The Replacements probably did it better, but I think The Hold Steady do it pretty damn well. That said, I do understand why just as many people hate them as love them.
