he behaves like him?

Kanye has tried to take healthcare from millions of americans? Kanye has demonized immigrants and separated them from their families? Kanye has passed regressive economic reforms?

Has Kanye named one Trump policy he supports? Has Kanye spouted and pushed racist policies? He's had some questionable comments about black americans, but since he is black seems like thats just ignorant not racist. I'd welcome some dumb shit comments about white america from trump, for once.

aha, during an interview, Kanye was asked specifically which policies of Trump's that he supports. Surprise surprise, he wasn't able to give a concise answer. He was only able to say "I like that he won when everyone said that he couldn't." Further proof that Kanye is just a blowhard trying to get a reaction for the sake of publicity.

And yet here you typed out the words to actually say it...

It’s ironic how all you Kayne apologists can’t seem to understand what a comparison or an analogy is. Maybe you should listen to artists who write more profond lyrics than Kanye, since the one I made is so difficult for you to grasp. I think it’s kinda sad that y’all haven’t grown out of your Kanye phases yet, but I guess clinging to the nostalgia of your high school/college years helps to ease your cognitive dissonance about this whole thing.

Right. Because you are the only one who seemed to be holding them to the same standard.

This has nothing to do with being a dick riding Kanye stan. Most here don’t seem to be. I’m not. Nobody seems to be defending his comments except e man. Im just saying that it’s silly to put any stock into his political opinions. If I want insightful dialogue my first thought isn’t “what does Kanye think about this topic”. I’m not being a Kanye apologist by saying y’all shouldn’t give a fuck what he says about trump. I’m dismissing his his blathering as just that - pointless blathering for no apparent purpose other than to promote himself and make headlines...or maybe Kanye is really just that stupid. Idk.

And if you are a hardcore Kanye fan it shouldn’t be hard to separate the music from the person. We do it with problematic artists all the time.

For the most part, I'm pretty sure the artists I'm into wouldn't support Trump... and especially wouldn't be outspoken about it if they did.

So an artist's vocal opinions on politics/life doesn't affect your support/admiration of that artist? Who are some other artists you like that vocally support trump? Or are evangelicals? Or are anti-abortion? Or anti-feminist? Or are bigots?

nothing that he has said is on that level. he’s just said some super, super dumb shit. of course I’d have an issue supporting artists with those views.

most artists I’m a fan of don’t put it all out there for me to know, which is at the heart of all of this

I’ve also never said I’ve admired a musician for anything other than their music

this is a Dixie Chicks situation on steroids because 2018

hasn't kanye been widely criticized and laughed at for these tweets? of course he's got a huge platform, but i haven't really seen people rushing to agree with him (or if they were, they were of that mind before he ever said/tweeted anything). maybe i'm in a bubble...but the reaction i've seen hasn't been one of acceptance toward his comments and hasn't been him changing people's minds about trump or slavery or any other topic.

yup. if somebody wants to hold their favorite musicians/entertainers/celebrities to a certain standard for political opinions, that's fine...nobody should tell you why to like or dislike somebody. but this is nothing new. we've been differentiating between the art and the person forever in entertainment stuff. tons of shitty people have made great entertainment that we've loved. doesn't change the fact that they're shitty people. you can enjoy the art and not the person, i think.

It doesn’t have to be one or the other. You can hate what he said and think his music is good. You can hate his music and agree with what he said. You can like his music and his shitty opinions. And you can hate both. The two are entirely separate issues.

Maybe for you they're separate. For others, they're closely tied together. Personally, I try my best NOT to idolize celebrities, or really anyone for that matter, but we live in America, and plenty of people do. And when shit like this happens, it causes all sorts of problems- especially for young, vulnerable people who probably don't have great role models surrounding them.

I mean, so far the evidence I’ve seen that this is some big issue is that a buncha maga twitter people agreed with Kanye. That’s not too surprising to me. What he said was completely fucking stupid. Obviously. I don’t really see a need to give it/him any more attention than it deserves.

It wasn't just a bunch of stupid remarks. He's had a history of that for a while. It's the fact that what he said is essentially a stick in the eye to the entire African American community. He has benefited from privilege than 99.9% of the members of community will NEVER have a chance to enjoy. If people wanna hold their noses and act like his words and actions in the REAL WORLD don't matter, that's cool i guess. "I don't usually smoke, but pass the 'dro."

People love Jordan shoes. Is he considered a strong influence on today’s youth? I would say that he’s not. No doubt, Kanye is more relevant to young people than Michael Jordan. But i think y’all are overestimating this.

If MJ came out and started saying the shit Kanye is, it'd be similar. But Jordan doesn't have nearly as big a stage as Kanye currently does.

celebrities have a powerful voice +
sometimes they say stupid shit and lies +
many children, young people, and stupid people gobble up what their favorite celebs say

= terrible situation with consequences for the whole country for years and decades to come

how is that hard to understand for some people???

look at the several tens of millions who have gobbled up the literally thousands of lies trump has told as POTUS
