I actually had a laugh at the meta irony of downloading the Airwolf theme from Zune to use as my ringtone on my iPhone and actually getting the damn thing to use a ringtone without paying a 1$ stupid tax was more work then acquiring it for free in the first place.
11/13/2009 4:39:06 PM
Again, the point is that I don't need to buy the song to listen to it. With iTunes, you do.I don't need to own the song. It's not worth $0.99 to me.

do you have to be a zune subscriber to purchase songs iTunes style?
11/13/2009 4:42:02 PM
no, with the zune you don't have to have a subscription to buy individual songs (you can absolutely rock it itunes style if you want)[Edited on November 13, 2009 at 4:43 PM. Reason : .]

Renting is a misnomer. I'm not going to cancel my Zune subscription, so from my reference point I own everything I download as I have unlimited access to it.With iTunes, I'd have to cough up my lunch money when I got a 3am urge to download Japanese synth pop.
11/13/2009 4:43:06 PM
so basically both zune MP and iTunes allow you to buy music a song at a timeand zune MP gives you an option to join their club and have unlimited access to their entire catalogue for a flat rate.at this point it just seems like a natural evolution of service.

Which I love doing for movies but not when it comes to music. I don't want an additional $15/month on top of my netflix because even with netflix i'm not getting my money's worth since I've had the same 3 blu-ray discs sitting at home for 6 months. Now there is nothing wrong with other people renting their music...suits me just fine. Like i've been saying all along...what works for one person doesn't necessarily work for everyone else.[Edited on November 13, 2009 at 4:49 PM. Reason : .]

Wait up here. You have an XM Subscription? You are now paying for a subscription music service AND to download. You are paying more than just having Zune Pass, with less flexibility. AHAHAHAHAHAH.ZunePass is the equivalent of NetFlix+BestBuy. You get unlimited rentals, and at any time you can buy the content TOO. AND you get 10 free pieces of content a month regardless. Imagine if Netflix let you keep a movie permanently every month.I love how you say you're not intimidated by buying your music, but you neglect to mention that you already have a paid music subscription service.

11/13/2009 4:57:37 PM
I read the entire missed portion of the thread, dawg I actually loved XM for the content the brief period I had it (my car has no external antenna so reception sucked), but if you have it, your better off with the Zune pass in every way. If you have mobile 3G wifi, then it's not even a debate Give the model a chance, there's free trials for ZunePass all over the place, and see if you don't change your tune (no pun intended haha)
11/13/2009 5:00:40 PM
You boot your Mac into Windows 7, which I know you have.
11/13/2009 5:02:10 PM
yeah but you missed the point that I never said Zune sucks. I said purchasing music works for me regardless of who I purchase it through...and I so happen to like iTunes...been using it for years. Am I opposed to trying something else, no...I attempted to give Zune a shot back in the day but it wasn't supported so I returned it (Windows Vista). I would try again but its not supported in this OS either...and my bootcamp partition is only 40gb since I rarely use windows except for the occasional game or for testing.Plus if i did use Zune Pass I'd want to transfer the music from Zune to iTunes simply to get it on the iPhone...[Edited on November 13, 2009 at 5:05 PM. Lack of Mac support is a pretty big black eye for Zune IMO.Hope for the future!http://arstechnica.com/apple/news/2009/10/microsoft-mulling-bringing-zune-services-to-macmaybe.ars
11/13/2009 5:06:33 PM
I'll never own a Zune device unless they make a Zune phone and its better than the iPhone...but if the xbox integration is as cool as it sounds I was going to give it a shot anyway. I need to have more of a reason to use it then it will play on my PC (which it won't without parallels or bootcamp)...and having it stream to the xbox is something I'm looking forward to.
11/13/2009 5:08:32 PM
11/13/2009 5:42:04 PM
^not really, no. I would continue to use iTunes to purchase music/video. Zune Pass would primarily be a Pandora type replacement and to use on the Xbox.
11/13/2009 5:54:54 PM
DRM Free MP3's are cheaper to buy from the Zune Marketplace (98 cents), so why would you continue purchasing through iTunes? You can always Sync your mp3's to your iPhone, but it's a hell of a lot better purchasing and management experience through the Zune software.
11/13/2009 6:19:11 PM
$0.99/song u mean.and because it must work natively in Mac OS X where my library is because its what I use 99% of the time.[Edited on November 13, 2009 at 6:26 PM. Reason : .]
11/13/2009 6:24:53 PM
technically it's $.9875 per song because of the whole credits/dollars ratio. As soon as the Live and Zune marketplaces merge, it'll actually be possible to get music cheaper because they run deals on Microsoft Points pretty often.Hey, if you want to spend 33% more per song on a less capable management platform, instead of just running a VM in the background, be my guest [Edited on November 13, 2009 at 6:28 PM. ^^I enjoy your play by play commentating. Would read again A++++++So as the current Zune Marketplace stands...these HD TV shows and movies...are they streamed in 720p or is it the instant on 1080p through the desktop client? I know the 1080p is coming to xbox next week but wasn't sure if it already existed for the desktop client.

Just got a 16GB as a Christmas present. It was the last one Best Buy by Southpoint had in stock for the day. Snazzy interface. I'll give a review after I use it several times but it definitely earned cool points when I connected to the marketplace via my house wifi and started downloading albums after tying my zune to my ZunePass ID.Microsoft would be batshit insane not to put a radio transceiver on this thing and make it a cellphone.
