Man, flying the helicopters/UAV was much easier with a PS3 controller than it is with a mouse & keyboard.I think I'll connect my 360 controller to my PC just to have the thumbsticks for whenever I hop in a chopper...
3/27/2010 3:18:34 AM
i think the default controls for the pc are really messed up... i had to fiddle with them forever to get it how i wanted and now can fly really well.
3/27/2010 11:00:36 AM
I wish I could go in a private match by myself so I could fly the helicopters around. Every time I try in a match I either crash the damn thing or get shot down too quick to learn anything.
3/27/2010 12:24:49 PM
^Agreed. And the PC flight controls are wacked. I can fly a plane/helo all day long in the earlier BF games, but even with my joystick, I am currently AWFUL at flying, and need to join an empty server with helos and UAVs to practice.
3/27/2010 12:42:57 PM
I was able to fly the hell out of the a helo for the first time in BC2, just from flying them a lot in BF2. I think the controlls are really similar [PC]
3/27/2010 12:46:34 PM
the ceiling is entirely too low for helos. you basically can either have decent altitude and no forward movement or have to go low enough were every single thing on the ground can waste you in a heartbeat.if they'd just raise the ceiling to 150% of the current height, it would be much betterdid my first squad deathmatch last night and man that was a blast. it's super tense compared to ticketed rounds. they're first to 50 kills, set in small sections of existing maps, and usually have one vehicle that can be used. we wound up playing a 2v3v2v2 match that my buddy and I won handily. with him as an engineer and me in the APC, we kept that thing alive for quite a while and basically blew up all the building cover on white pass. but if there were 16 people i don't think armor would be a good idea. whenever anyone spots and enemy, all the opposing teams can see themalso, the only pin i have left to get is a squad rush victory, so I'm going to have to try that soon[Edited on March 27, 2010 at 1:15 PM. 3/27/2010 1:12:26 PM
i miss the jets / helo battles we'd have in BF2, it added a whole new dimension to the game
3/27/2010 1:14:09 PM
^^If they raised the ceiling that much, no one would ever kill a UAV ever, and a good UAV driver can run the entire game if no one is shooting them.If they managed to raise the ceiling for non-UAV helicopters, though... that could work. Personally I don't know, I never use full-size helicopters unless I squad spawn in one or need to parachute somewhere.[Edited on March 27, 2010 at 10:17 PM. Reason : .]
3/27/2010 10:17:06 PM
true...they would need a limit on the UAV
3/28/2010 12:26:08 AM
on the UAV, how does one get the 50cal machine gun? is that an alternate weapon or unlock or what? on a side note, i finally got my veteran status. so now i got the M1 Garand
3/28/2010 2:53:34 PM
there is an alt weapon specialization for vehicles you unlock. it's pretty sweet - the TOW you get on the APC's is a must have

I saw a new tactic today which has never occurred to me. Enemy team couldn't get to the last crate on the second floor of Valparaiso, so they loaded down the UAV with C4 bricks and flew it into the crate. This took the crate down to 1/2 strength, so then they used a Blackhawk in the same manner. I actually wonder now if you could coordinate this with 3 people such that 2 of them put 6 bricks each on the UAV (or Blackhawk), and the third flies it into the crate to destroy it in one fell swoop. That'd be utterly brilliant if it works.

Install BF2 demo and 2142 demo, and register accounts with each. They both will count toward your veteran status.

^I've actually done that, too... from basically the same spot. With a sniper and with an RPG (though no headshot/marksman bonus for the RPG, obviously). It's not hard at all if you're using 12x scope and the person in the far building (presumably a sniper) is standing still... though the RPG shot is basically luck from that distance.

So I discovered that playing the Medic class is a very easy way to get points. I was the high-scorer on my team for a couple games and all I was doing was throwing out MedKits and using the Defibrillator. My friend was watching me play and I made him laugh when I revived a teammate, then died myself as I croaked "Earn... this.... Earn it."
3/29/2010 10:37:48 AM
to me it seems like the medic class is the most heavily used class because of exactly that. being able to revive and throw the medkits out generates a ton of points. in one match i had picked up a dropped medical kit and while playing that all i did was revive people and just on that alone i was racking up the points bigtime. also, i think the fact that the medic class has weapons like the m60 LMG (which tears me up every damn time i go up against someone with it) is another big reason people opt for that class.
3/29/2010 10:51:00 AM
^Yea I agree. I have unlocked everything on vehicle and recon, so now I'm working through the medic class. I was kicking ass this weekend by barely killing anybody, just healing and reviving. It was a bitch to get to the defib kit though.
3/29/2010 11:01:42 AM
So if you had two medics in a squad, could they just hide in a corner somewhere and take turns reviving each other the entire game?-10 Points (Suicide)+80 Points (Revive squad member)It wouldn't help the team (and would be a douchebag move), but it could help you rank up faster. If you revive someone does it save that ticket for your team?
3/29/2010 12:05:06 PM
That would be a douchebaggery move... and yes revival replaces the ticket that was lost due to the kill
3/29/2010 12:40:34 PM
^^Haha I had never thought about doing it, though indirectly it sometimes happens, if I am working with another medic on my squad. We will heal others, shoot some, get killed, and revive each other.
3/29/2010 12:47:52 PM
Are there any custom maps/servers?I'm thinking something like the old Desert Combat mod server I'd play on, which had nothing but constantly respawning Apaches.I'd like a custom game mode, too:- Team Deathmatch.- Tanks only. Tons of em. No helicopters or UAVs. ATVs okay I guess.- Class limited to Engineer w/ RPG and no tracers.
3/29/2010 1:07:03 PM
Duncan, that's exactly what people have reported as happening in other game forums. from what i have read, for the entire match they'll be on a secluded section of the map, usually far in the rear away from all action. they will simply revive one another after a suicide and continue to do so. it's all about the points and ranking up obviously.i've also read accounts of ranking up shenanigans where the above method is taken a bit further and there are 4 people, 2 from each team basically killing each other and reviving each other to get the kill points and then revive points. the trick is with this, all 4 players need to know each other and agree to do this and not be discovered by other players cause then the whole plan goes to hell. based on this, much harder to do.
3/29/2010 1:10:45 PM
Wow, this is the gayest thing that I've heard about this game so far.
3/29/2010 1:18:02 PM
Seems like there's been quite the surge of MW2 players onto the Battlefield.
3/29/2010 1:20:37 PM
^ i think that is exactly what has happened. and unfortunately as time goes on and more people get sick of MW2, they are going to continue to flock over to BC2 bringing with them their bullshit tactics and gameplay that is not what BC2 is about, let alone any Battlefield game.
3/29/2010 1:23:04 PM
You'd think that if they wanted to do that they could just go get on an empty server. That's where I practiced flying the helicopters...
3/29/2010 1:30:20 PM
meh, people boosted like that in BF2 - it's not rampant.but the most fun thing to do in an empty server is laser tag - aka tracer dart fights as engineers. works best if you have an assault as well for ammo boxes to replenish. bonus fun is when you do tag someone, they get a 3 count head start before you start locking onto them with a carl gustav. hilarity ensues.also to note about tracer darts - there is no effect on them from gravity. you can be on the other side of a map, line up a shit with a sniper scope, switch to the dart gun and it will plant (after a long flight there).[Edited on March 29, 2010 at 1:43 PM. Reason : .]
3/29/2010 1:42:47 PM
^lol. I guess this is why my tracer's were zooming right past the tanks I was shooting at yesterday. I did manage to get lucky as hell and plant one on a Blackhawk yesterday. Got like 500 points for destroying that thing with a Carl Gustav.
3/29/2010 2:14:04 PM

I think we need to petition some changes to the games modes that will not make them get kinda stale so fast. My suggestions are for to randomized flag locations in Conquest, and randomized individual crate locations in Rush. Obviously, in Conquest all of the flag locations would stay the same once a random set has been chosen. Say if they had at least three different flag locations for EACH flag, and before the game starts the dice rolls for all three (or four) flag locations. In Rush, there should be at least three crate location PER crate, and the dice would roll for EACH at the beginning of the game, and thereafter if both crates are destroyed. This would make strategy for each map switch up so much per game that it would almost never get old to play.

bttt for this thread bc im selling my 360 game in classifieds
3/29/2010 10:28:16 PM
i like that idea of switching up the locations of the crates for Rush maps. the only problem i see with that for certain maps like Nelson Bay, there's really no where else to put the crates presently, unless you were to put them outside amongst the trees and whatnot. one server i was playing on last night no matter what the map was, there were like 6/7 Recon class all calling in mortars on the damn buildings with the crates. so once the building went down, boom there goes the crate. they continued the trend through several maps, enough i got bored and left. (24 was coming on soon anyway haha). maybe instead of the crates going boom when the structure collapses, they can switch it up so that doesnt happen?
3/30/2010 8:03:20 AM
I think the crates (and the buildings they are in) should have more health than they do now.Heck, just make it so that crate buildings don't collapse. Recon could still mortar away the roof and walls and then just mortar the crate for damage.
3/30/2010 9:40:34 AM
They opened up a cool rush map for conquest and vice versa. The desert map in conquest is awesome. No vehicles. Just ground combat. I owned all.
3/31/2010 2:44:45 PM
i <3 the pump shotgun. i got on a huge killing spree in the jungle on rush. either shotgun on the sniper class for the radar or the medic for the heals with lightweight and extended mag and lots of brush/trees FTW
3/31/2010 4:54:46 PM
the new rush map is nice as it is foliage heavy and less susceptible to sniper warspicked up my 500th headshot today - but still about 20 or so marksman headshots from 200 - most of the headshots have been with non-sniper rifles.also have about 110 knife kills left till i get platinum in that onei really wish they had implemented more unlocks for the higher levels. simple stuff like different cammo, hats, weapon skins, etc could keep people interested and have that satisfaction of unlocking stuff. i've got everything unlocked now and at level 30 (2nd LT III) the class advancement comes slower (it's 150k points from that rank to 1st LT I). maybe some horse armor dlc is in order?
3/31/2010 5:56:57 PM
I'm not sure when it's coming (it was supposed to have been the 18th of March), but the Dr. Pepper content is supposed to have new camo skins for both uniforms and guns. Not sure if it's going to actually have anything new aside from achievements and pins, though...

glad to see a few of you in game recently, i hope you had fun! (make sure you set and use your in-game voice chat though, that helps, I have separate in game and ts binds)
