3/22/2010 6:26:23 PM
you seem like it, DEBBIE
3/22/2010 6:26:37 PM
Alibi has closed because all three floors of that space have been purchased by Kings.I know pooljobs and his friends wanted me to play Dropkick Murphys (which I don't have) and were upset when I played the Pogues instead. Also, it was bingo night so that made the mix kind of weird until around 1:00.I fully admit to occasionally getting lazy and playing boring shit on Saturday nights. Sometimes you try to go in two or three directions and don't get much response to any of them and so you turn to automatic winners which are often stupid. I'd be much happier on Saturdays if I could ride through a dance party from 12:00-2:00 on Stax/Motown/Numero deep cuts, but it doesn't always take. One of the great things about JP is that the DJs are all fairly different. For instance, Miles plays a ton of electro and italodisco stuff. A lot of people love it and some avoid it. I know some people hate it when I lean on the riot grrl stuff and other people bounce up and down after every song. Eric plays a lot of reggae and hip-hop with the same response, but I think it's nice to know you're going to hear different stuff every night.I've had people tell me I'm their favorite DJ and I've also had people throw beers at me. ]
3/22/2010 6:28:32 PM
hahai agree though sometimes it is the crowd. i mean i'm not a dj so i can't really speak from experience. but eric tells me that sometimes he tries to like go a couple of different directions and no one looks like they are "feeling" anything so he's just like, fuck it whatever. and i've been there on those nights. its whatev.i like all the djs so i don't really care (well miles isn't my fav but i don't hate him - i avoid first friday anyway there cause of the crowd)[Edited on March 22, 2010 at 6:30 PM. I played two Pogues songs (a fast one earlier and a slow one when it was time to get the fuck out), and an hour-plus of Irish bands earlier.I don't have stuff I don't like, and I really don't like Dropkick Murphys. Your friends were nice enough about it, but I can't play something I don't have. *shrug*
3/22/2010 8:13:50 PM
The only Dropkick Murphys album I ever had was Do or Die, and it had some sweet songs. Noble and their version of Finnegan's Wake come to mind.
3/22/2010 8:33:55 PM
What is this that I hear about Jackpot might be closing.....need to know
3/22/2010 8:36:13 PM
there have been rumors of the jackpot closing for yearsthe newest ones relate to rezoning plans for the whole blockbut a lot of those plans going forward are dependent on what happens with the ihop and whether or not the preservation society can get something going for the green house or not
3/22/2010 8:39:41 PM
This question has probably been asked, perhaps in this very thread, but what the fuck is in that house out back?
3/22/2010 8:56:51 PM
a bunch of old furniture, bottles of orange driver, a broken pinball machine, a thin film of fire extinguisher dust, dog shitup until a couple years ago it was studio space and practice space for bands, now there are no working lights and it's essentially abandonedit was built in 1902 by fabius briggs, the owner of briggs hardware (now on atlantic avenue; the original briggs hardware building is on fayetteville and now houses the raleigh city museum)
3/22/2010 9:04:57 PM
Article bout the house with some photoshttp://goodnightraleigh.com/2009/10/the-fabius-briggs-house-a-crumbling-raleigh-relic/

Man, that shit better not close before I can get back to raleigh...[Edited on March 22, 2010 at 9:14 PM. Reason : err, fail. I grew to fast love Jackpot]

3/26/2010 1:45:55 AM
i'm so confused right now haha
3/26/2010 1:57:11 AM
so what's the deal with the dancing?
3/26/2010 1:58:35 AM
i mean what kind of dancing do you want to do? white people dancing to indie music? then yes, it is a good place to do white people dance moves haha
3/26/2010 2:00:56 AM
lol well I am white. I like dancing to house and other various forms of electronic music the most.
3/26/2010 2:06:51 AM
you will hear some electronic there but if that is what you are primarily going for then nahhhhi mean it isn't really a dancy place its more like people come, hang out, get drunk and then end up dancing (white people dance moves haha - lots of dance circles involved)
3/26/2010 2:08:12 AM
yeah i would not consider JP a dance venuenot that i haven't seen many a drunken attemptjust...no.
3/26/2010 2:09:00 AM
lololol
3/26/2010 2:10:16 AM
I just vaguely remember lots of dancing going on the last couple times I went there. I was quite drunk and the nights were kinda blurry though.[Edited on March 26, 2010 at 2:12 AM. Reason : I'm not a big dancer, but I do like to dance around and have fun if other people are doing it too]
3/26/2010 2:11:55 AM
ULTIMATE hipster dance circle tonightit was quite funny
3/26/2010 2:21:20 AM
damn who knew there were any hipsters left in raleigh with local bands/beer, the xx, joanna newsom and ben folds (if that counts)haha. maybe everyone went out late night
3/26/2010 2:22:24 AM
Lots of shows I've been to lately have been ending before 1am. That's some bullshit.
3/26/2010 2:23:40 AM
Eric showed up at 3 minutes to last call and I told him I was pumped for him to be dj'ing for my "birthday party"
3/26/2010 2:26:37 AM
is your "bday party" tom or sat night? or both haha
3/26/2010 2:29:29 AM
Saturdaythen Wednesdaythen next weekend
3/26/2010 2:33:41 AM
the hipster dance circle tonight was composed of two borough employees, a local fire dancer, a JP semi-regular who is perpetually shitfaced, and a band from chicagoit was very entertaining, though
3/26/2010 3:14:33 AM
last day at my jobthis weekend will be a jackpot weekend
3/26/2010 10:48:50 AM
Okay, yeah...So I like Jackpot, BUT...i want to see a couple changes1. New pool cues2. Put that pinball machine in a better lit area or hang a light over its current position. I fucking live for that shit, and the poor lighting induces a glare on the glass covering the board.3. Fix the guys bathroom door (it was broke as of a month ago..havent been their since)
3/26/2010 11:01:33 AM
1 and 2 maybebut 3? i hope they never fix that door. i have never had a private piss at jaxpot, and i hope i never do
