As do I.But I'd like it a lot more if it was a foot shorter.
9/27/2011 8:39:27 AM
So... about the size of your S2000... Got it
9/27/2011 11:04:49 AM
Not quite. An S2000 is 162.7 inches long. The new 991 is 178.4, a difference of 15.7 inches.I'd really just be happy if it was the same length as the 993, 167.7 inches

interesting sunroof on the 991http://video.aol.com/aolvideo/aol-autos/autoblog-short-cuts-2012-porsche-911-carrera-s/1270380727001

^^^ yep, but with all of the weight-reduction effort in place at its current super-size.When the 911 surpassed the Corvette both in dimensions and weight, I was a little shocked. Now they've gone and made it even bigger.Hopefully Chevy will make the C7 even smaller and lighter. It'll never be s2000-sized, but a little more nip & tuck would make it even better.
11/13/2011 12:05:52 PM
The new 911 Carrera (3048 lbs) is lighter than a Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (3,199 pounds), Ferrari 458 (3,274 pounds), Nissan GT-R (3,829 pounds) and the Jaguar XKR (3,865 pounds). It's also less than an inch longer than the 997 in overall length while it's height is a tad shorter.[Edited on November 13, 2011 at 2:51 PM. Reason : I agree that it's a bit too big as is, but Porsche's done an admirable job keeping the weight low.]
11/13/2011 2:49:56 PM
Agreed all the way; that's what I'm saying. It's a shame that Porsche didn't apply all that effort to weight-savings, AND make it about 993-sized.With all the new goodies and hp.That would have kicked a lot of ass.
11/13/2011 7:39:40 PM
^agreed. The 911 isn't intended to be a large coupe, so they need to STOP enlarging it every damn time. Nobody puts shit in the back seat, so stop making it bigger! I have no doubt they'll introduce a 928-esque coupe based off the Panamera. Let the large coupe fans flock to that.

^ Highly relevant to the discussion of length, and a very good overview for Porsche-philes:http://blog.caranddriver.com/porsche-911-generations-the-legend-grows/Wow, lengthwise, Gen 3 < Gen 2 < Gen 1It blew up when going from 993 to 996, growing by 6.7 inches.Gen 1 lasted 24 years...?! In those 24 years, the price increased by 700%... WTF. Yes, there was inflation, but 700%?[Edited on November 14, 2011 at 9:48 AM. Reason : ]

From the side the new 911 looks like a caricature of the older models. I'm sure the 20" wheels are really needed too
11/14/2011 10:08:50 AM
I wonder why they used a 996 TT, but the 991 and 997 are N/A...
11/15/2011 4:31:41 PM
Beats me. Also note that the 993 is a turbo model. And the 964 model is the rare lightweight RS America.
11/15/2011 4:41:47 PM
Thats okay... the 997 has the ceramic brake package...
11/15/2011 5:08:33 PM
2000 911 cabriolet 54,000 miles. 16k in great shape with full service history worth it ???
12/24/2011 2:00:52 PM
1999 996 Carrera, 77k miles, 19" rims (IIRC), Aero body kit, $17k.I'd get the coupe over the cabriolet...http://raleigh.craigslist.org/ctd/2756977017.html[Edited on December 24, 2011 at 7:12 PM. Reason : /]

I think 911 cabs are kind of ugly. It really ruins the lines of the car...not to mention, convertible sports cars (serious sports cars, anyway) suck. More weight, less rigidity, more cost (generally...used 911 cabs are cheaper, because they suck), and you can't track them in some places without a roll bar. That's a good price, though, with the factory aero kit, especially if it was a 6-speed hardtop.Ahmet might differ even after grenading his 911's engine, but I'm too scared of particularly a Mk 1 model 996. A Mk2 scares me enough even with its updates to address problems. Of course, that (and the Boxster nose) are why you can get a nice one for $17k to begin with...
12/25/2011 2:21:00 AM
^ What I posted is a coupe, but it appears that it has now been deleted.[Edited on December 25, 2011 at 2:35 AM. Reason : .]
12/25/2011 2:35:24 AM
yeah, then that's was a good deal on an aero kit car with lowish mileage, assuming it was in nice shape.

In other Porsche news....I bought an 01 Porsche Carrera 4 on December 14th. 6 speed. Black on black. Great condition inside and out. Fucking gorgeous. I drove it for a week then finally got the title signed over to me on the 21st to make it official. That night the porsche decides to congratulate me for my purchase by failing to start. Failed alarm box and DME unit due to the aftermarket radio some dude put in years ago. $Texas Luckily I bought the car for $22.5k when it KBB's near $27k. I was planning on the selling the car to make a profit. Now I'm just going to own a Porsche for a month at no cost [Edited on December 25, 2011 at 6:39 AM. Reason : Anyone looking for an 01 C4? lol. All electrical issue fixed and price is a reasonable $25.5k]
12/25/2011 6:30:07 AM
I'm interested, though I'd prefer a 2
12/25/2011 9:50:49 AM
its not for me... my bro in law's dad is selling it to him just making sure its worthashit.
12/25/2011 12:16:38 PM
^^^I'm sure anyone interested would want to know the mileage. I'm not speaking for myself though, no interest in the Carrera 4 models
12/28/2011 4:03:36 PM
it's 66k miles but I'm not sure that I want to sell it. I love it and want to get some usage out of it.
12/28/2011 4:25:50 PM
But of course you do, 911s are spectacularly good cars.
12/28/2011 10:44:22 PM
Need any last minute gift ideas for that Porsche lover?
12/29/2011 1:05:42 PM
considering that seems to be the end that dies in most porsche crashes i bet its even hard to find the sheet metal in a junk yard.

I miss mine too I had it for a week when the ECU/Immobilizer friedIt hasn't been running for 4 weeks now. Hopefully I'll get the rebuilt ECU unit back next week.

one day we will all drive automatics
2/14/2012 5:08:55 PM
2/14/2012 5:17:42 PM
^^no^unless it's got a 3rd pedal its not the same. If I want to play video games I'll turn on my PS3. If I want to fully engage myself in a car I get in my car.
2/14/2012 11:49:28 PM
i love my 3-pedal vehicles, but I do have to concede that PDK is performance-enhancing, and the really bad part of an auto-trans is the torque converter, which isn't an issue with an automated sequential manual.
2/15/2012 12:48:01 AM
you know how you were talking about not being able to get the z06 anywhere near the limit on the street. I feel the pdk falls into that category. I mean would i want it racing someone..... yes... would i enjoy it driving on the street to and from work. no... unless i get stuck in a traffic jam because my clutch is tiny and makes up for it in spring power.
2/15/2012 6:38:23 AM
2/15/2012 10:12:57 AM
i love manual transmission cars as well, but im not sure where all the torque converter hate comes from.
2/15/2012 10:20:52 AM
They're slow and are inefficient and thus rob a lot of power. They're pretty much only good for insanely high hp cars for drag racing.[Edited on February 15, 2012 at 10:29 AM. Reason : typo]
2/15/2012 10:29:19 AM
so drag racing is slow
2/15/2012 10:42:12 AM
no... drag racing engines just make so much hp & tq that the slip effect from a tq converter keeps them from breaking loose
2/15/2012 10:48:27 AM
yeah thats not how it works at all, but i dont want to derail a porsche thread, so forget i mentioned it.
2/15/2012 11:12:57 AM
Then start a new thread discussing it if you think you're the expert
2/15/2012 12:12:16 PM
nah its okay- im not.probably an appropriate discussion here at least; i havent heard the best things about porsche autos.

Are 996 engine blocks actually crap? I was reading something written buy a guy who owns a Porsche shop but could be a hack saying that they are porus and gave been known to leak fluids through the block it's self ??!This sounds like some crazy bs excuse to me but I dont know shit about them really.

Cant find the original but http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/996-turbo-forum/471350-ppi-for-porous-block-head.htmlIs it all of them or just the n/a models ? Or is it a crap excuse for a blown head gasket that only leaks when hot ?
