Interesting stats from the game....we only had 10 turnover to their 12. Unfortunately, we gave up 15 offensive rebounds and 41 total while only getting 3 offensive and 26 total

welli meanto be argumentative, i cant argue the first point that we as a team were hot from 3but i dont think 3pt heat is transitive, is it?

^ don't mess with success ! definitely a fun game to be courtside for.... the place went nuts on the last shot. I can't believe both our wins came in ridiculous OT.... we definitely have to get UNC into OT Saturday.

If Fells wants to play defense like he did tonight, and not turn the ball over, I'd be all in favor of him playing the 2. The problem is that with him playing the 2, he touches the ball a lot more and he's more likely to turn it over. But damn did he find a groove tonight. I wonder if having a smaller defender on him helped. btw, I'll say it again......Fells played some fucking great D tonight. Most of McClinton's points came when fells got switched off or before Fells could pick him up in transition.

looks like we're tied with UMD now for NINTH place!!!movin' on up..../unnecessary optimism

i missed some of the game, because my cable went out. but from what i saw, fells was playing more catch and shoot. using his quickness to get open. i didn't see him driving to the basket much, which is how he usually gets in trouble, because he can't handle the ball. that and lazy passes. but as long as he's catching and shooting, and not trying to do too much with the ball, and then playing solid D on the other end, he can stay at the 2. so is sid going to keep the same starters for the unc game or will their quickness require us to go smaller? i say keep the bigs. (even though, wow, did we still get destroyed on the boards tonight )[Edited on January 27, 2009 at 10:53 PM. Reason : ]

That's my concern. Fells seems to have the propensity to make unforced TOs off his own Adidas. That's been the trend for a while now. But if he continues to play like he did tonight, keep starting him @ the 2.[Edited on January 27, 2009 at 10:52 PM. Reason : ^^^]

match-ups are going to determine if fells plays the 2 or the 3. if we need more rebounding, you'll see that big line up that everyone drools over, but if we need a smaller line up to break the press, he should be at the 3.

^true that. never really say the bigs all in there at the same time that much, but when they were in together (at the beginning of the game) we jumped out to an early lead. i don't recall how we well we were rebounding but i imagine it wasn't as bad as the rest of the game.
1/28/2009 12:05:18 AM
hansbrough/refs would have them all fouled out by the first half, leaving Horner to play C
1/28/2009 12:07:52 AM
McCauley looked like he could have gotten to a few boards that he just straight up missed cause he reached with one hand instead of going strong to the ball. I was liking the lineup early in the game w/ the offense running through degand and McCauley, but if we're going to have that 5 on the floor, we can not have Smith catching the ball on the block trying to creat offense (like we did unsuccessfully in the 2nd half). He basically has to be the 3 on offense and try to score cutting to the basket and getting position underneath while McCauley and Costner create the offense. Smith is great at finishing if he can catch it underneath, whether he's in traffic or not. He's not great at reading the D though so he struggles trying to create for himself/others. He tries way too much when the D doubles down.
1/28/2009 12:09:16 AM
the 'big' lineup also allowed our storming back from 20 down at BC in the second half^^^^^Agree with Smith though, it is a danger, Smith's second foul was just a dumb touch foul under the basket where he tapped a guy on the arm. If Smith can play smarter and not pick up stupid little fouls the lineup will work, but it is pretty solid on offense. Was nice to see actual shooting from outside tonight too, it's amazing what you can do when you can make shots, lucky we snapped out of our patented cold streak when we did, Ferguson's bank three was so clutch, whether it was luck or not

^^^^Yeah I'll be surprised to ever see shooting like that again too, but you never knowFells was actually getting fired up toward the end, he let out a McCauley-esque roar near the end when he got that block, grabbed the ball high out of the air, and got fouled immediately, maybe it will spark him and he won't be so damned streaky all the time, but it's good to see him not afraid of taking the 3 for once, and we really need Degand and Mays to keep making those 3s when the offense is failing so badpoint guards not turning the ball over has improved, but we still need a player who can create their own offense when the shots aren't falling and there is no rhythm

i've looked at the replay over and over of the Degand foul.he gets ALL BALL. that call was totally terrible.go back any of you that have it DVRed and there is a close up camera view of it.you see Degand block the ball...its only when his hand comes down after blocking the shot that it glances off the cheek of McClinton.
