Yeap, it's sold. Taking delivery tomorrow. It's been THE best car I've ever owned, period. The second spot is so removed from this, I'll be very sad to see it go, and every time I drive another car. :'(
9/3/2009 11:25:20 PM
If I know you as well as I do...you were a car whore when I was living in NC and prob still are. You say you miss it now but as soon as you buy the turbo or GT3 this car will become another notch under your belt. If only I could think that way I wouldnt have 3 cars right nowI hope all is well for you sir...

it's time to start writing poetry, buying girl pants, and wearing eye liner. emo ahmet incoming!
9/4/2009 10:05:23 AM
I think I might be a car whore.
9/4/2009 10:08:45 AM
I don't know, I think it will have it's special place in my heart, like my favorite M3;my turbo S;or my 540i sport 6 speed; Those are the cars I miss more than others, and I've had a considerable number of cars, and so far none were more significant than the 996.
9/5/2009 1:17:56 AM
So it's gone for good. Delivered, check deposited, etc. Final, finito. Driving the Saab's just not the same. I'm having jitters about a turbo, wondering if I should, etc.
9/6/2009 3:23:29 PM
Dang it, I found a GT3 that I like! Poor house, here I come...
9/7/2009 10:10:25 PM
needs more info...
9/8/2009 9:57:35 AM
Well, details are still being worked on, but I may be buying it as early as tomorrow. It'd be the lowest mileage, most expensive, and newest car I've owned if it works out. I'll make an update. I'm pretty giddy and nervous. Logical side says don't, emotional side says do, quite the conundrum.
9/8/2009 3:09:23 PM
i have reluctantly not taken a ride in any of your cars, but if you get the GT3 I'm going to have to get a ride in that for sure!!
9/8/2009 3:28:40 PM
^^ your agenda for tomorrow:1. purchase gt32. jersey mikes for dinner3. profitnow make it so.
9/8/2009 3:53:32 PM
Taking bets on when Ahmet sells the GT3.
9/8/2009 4:04:49 PM
9/8/2009 4:22:06 PM
Well remember my primary goal is to make money doing all of this. The GT3 would be for sale almost immediately after I buy it... The real question is what I would want to get next. :oDubcaps, I'm either going to be at the beach tomorrow, or a few thousand feet in the air to pick up said GT3 (actually there's also a 600hp turbo I'm looking at).
9/8/2009 4:22:45 PM
what colors are these cars?
9/8/2009 4:30:04 PM
You'd better take the LSD out of that GT3 (If it even comes with one son ). ]
9/8/2009 5:33:05 PM

Seinfeld is an avid automobile enthusiast and collector and is rumored to own one of the largest Porsche collections in the world. He rented out a hangar at the Santa Monica Airport, in Santa Monica, California, for an extended period of time during the 1990s, for storage of some of the vehicles in the collection. After his return to New York City he was involved in an extended dispute with several neighbors over the proposed building of a $1.4 million multi-story garage to contain the cars.A current tally puts Seinfeld at 46 Porsches. Reporter Paul Bannister reports that his collection includes Porsche 911s from various years, 10 Porsche Boxsters each painted a different color and the famous 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder, the same model and pearl-grey color that actor James Dean was driving when he crashed and died in September 1955 near Cholame, California. The centerpiece is a $700,000 Porsche 959, one of only 337 ever built. To his initial despair, he was not allowed to drive it as US emission and crash tests were never performed because Porsche refused to donate four Porsche 959s for destruction tests, rendering the car "not street-legal". He imported the car "for exhibition purposes", which stipulates the car may never be driven on American roads. The car was made US street legal in 1999 under the "Show or Display" federal law. In several episodes of Seinfeld, Seinfeld drives a Saab 900 (NG) convertible, but a Porsche-themed painting, depicting a Porsche 904 GTS race car competing in the 1964 Targa Florio race in Italy, is visible on a wall in his apartment, as well as a Porsche racing poster featuring a 550 Spyder depicting the 1958 Targa Florio. In another episode, he is seen hiding behind a red Porsche 911RS parked on the street. In addition, an issue of Excellence, a Porsche-centered publication, is featured prominently on an outdoor magazine rack in one episode and on at least one occasion he is seen reading an issue of Road and Track magazine from circa 1990 with a cover article on the Porsche 964. He also wrote an article for the February 2004 issue of Automobile, reviewing the Porsche Carrera GT. For the story he was awarded Road Pest - Silver at the 2004 International Automotive Media Awards.

^quote tags + link to the article would be nice.

i thought everyone already knew that he was a porsche nut?anywayshttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Seinfeldthat's where the paragraph came from.that's a picture of his garage door in new york. his garage houses his collection on multiple floors and has a built in car elevator so that he has easy access to the street for all of them.
9/11/2009 2:56:17 PM
yea..theres a lot of subtle porsche references in Seinfeld. I've always wondered why he didn't drive one in the show. also, wasn't it Bill Gates that wanted to drive his 959 and he got the law changed so he could?10 boxsters? come on.
9/11/2009 5:37:35 PM
His first Porsche was a 944 turbo. :oThere's a Porsche related something in every single episode of Seinfeld, usually an Excellence magazine on the coffee table, or a new poster on the wall. He was also a fan of Klein mountain bikes, but that's not for the garage crowd...
9/11/2009 6:12:17 PM
Klein bikes are sweet. and i knew this
9/12/2009 11:45:42 AM
I'm a Gary Fisher man myself...
9/12/2009 4:12:28 PM
i've been riding mountain bikes for 10+ years honestly klein and gary fisher is for yuppie kids... gary fisher is even worse than klein tho bc they products they offer dont even match up with klein. it's all a/b building ur own.[Edited on September 12, 2009 at 7:59 PM. Reason : .]

if you couldn't pick out the klein bike hanging above his doorway headed towards the bathroom you're full of fail!also, that's totally for the garage imo
9/13/2009 1:36:54 PM
Ahmet, Why the 540 so much? The motor is great but it is heavy and camberless.
9/13/2009 9:18:49 PM
It was a very well rounded vehicle. If I remember correctly, it had better power to weight vs. a 350z at Roebling Road's scales. The brakes were great and fade free, very stable. It didn't hurt that it was much faster in time trials than many "sports cars". Way cool considering that during one of those time trials, I'd forgotten to bring gloves and was using the heated steering wheel (also had power tilt/telescope and memory). Also, it had an absolutely stellar stereo, 16 speaker +2 subs I think...Add to the list it was invisible to cops, very respectable looking, quite comfortable while remaining good fun to drive. Very nice, but quiet engine/exhaust tone also. Most people did expect a 40ish male to step out of the car though, but hey whatever.

Update!!
9/19/2009 3:06:57 AM
epic boring thread
10/15/2009 4:41:11 PM
^fucking stop doing that
10/15/2009 4:55:30 PM
I don't think he'll ever stop. Indeed pretty annoying...So, the 911's gone, the current owner's tracked it a couple of times, and seems to like it a lot. I meet with him occasionally (his 335i is now a garage queen, which makes no sense to me but hey he's a cool guy none the less). He's scheduled to continue tracking it, and his current mechanic is suggesting suspension upgrades -that I disagree with, but whatever.Anyway, I now have two e36 M3s, one is for immediate sale, the other will probably follow even though it's always tempting to keep a decent M3 around, for drift events or something. It's already set up with full solid bushings, x brace, fresh springs and shocks + a couple of sets of track rotors and pads, new tires, etc. so maybe I'll put it on track a few times before selling it, I don't know.OK, so I still have the spec e30 coming from California the day one of these M3s is sold. Also, continuing the search either a later model 911 or a GT3 (and less likely a Turbo). Just don't want more than 2-3 cars at a time in front of my condo.
10/15/2009 5:02:30 PM
never gonna let the man get me down
10/16/2009 2:01:39 PM
10/17/2009 5:39:50 PM
I'm working on the shipping logistics now that I'm back down to one car. I'd wanted to drive it back (which is a colossally bad idea). I'll make a thread about it when it happens.
10/17/2009 7:16:36 PM
Why? Would you prefer I drive it back and you ride shotgun? I'll be you co-driver Ahmet
10/17/2009 10:58:38 PM
I'm actually trying to work out either driving it back or having it shipped. I *should* have it shipped, do you realize how bad it would be to drive a 20 year old race car across the country? If you're actually interested, and able, by all means let me know though...
10/18/2009 12:58:05 AM
if you've never driven across the country, i totally recommend it, even if it is in a 20-year old racecar (although that definitely isn't the preferred method)although...i've done it once in a moving truck, towing my Evo on a trailer, and another time in my Ram with worn-out steering, hauling over 4 tons of stuff in the back and on a trailer. Enjoyed the hell out of both trips.[Edited on October 18, 2009 at 2:19 AM. Reason : ]
10/18/2009 2:17:50 AM
why cant a 20 year old car drive 65mph?
10/18/2009 10:12:00 AM
I've done 600-900 mile trips, I do them somewhat often actually. I've probably picked up cars from 500+ miles away 10 or 12 times. That's different than this, there's no economical reason to drive the car (gas +hotel/meals would actually be more than shipping). There's no reason the car couldn't sustain 65mph (or 125 for that matter). The problem is more it being loud, vibrating, no climate control, etc.
10/18/2009 4:38:06 PM
I believe Chicago to Asheboro straight was my longest. I've done southern Illinois to here two or three times..not too big a deal. St. Louis once, Georgia a few times, blah blah blah.Agreed..no climate control would be a bitch
10/18/2009 5:21:15 PM
^ Meh. I didn't have AC in the porsche for about 2.5 years. Had it for about 1 year, now I'm back to just hot air
10/18/2009 7:49:18 PM
i debated driving my car back from phoenix when i bought itdecided it was better just to pay for shipping.
