Yeah I, too, just rapid tap the LT while moving the reticule all over the planet systematically. If I'm itching for minerals I'll cover a planet pretty well, but recently I have so much that I just do a fast and very rough scan of a planet and only shooting probs when I get a huge spike. I spent a lot of time before depleting nearly every planet I came across but not anymore.

Is there an easy way to get a lot of credits? I'm really behind on being able to pay for upgrades; I could only get like 1 of the research bonuses on the Krogan planet . Guess I'll continue with loyalty missions until I get more cash to get all the upgrades.

Importing a "wealthy" ME1 character gives you 100,000 but as far as in-game methods, just make sure to look around on every mission for salvage credits, hack terminal credits, etc...also some mission choices give you more money...I recently did the Ilium mission where you have to solve the murder of the merchant...one choice gives you $9,000 while the other gives you like $4,200

Honestly though just do as many side missions as you can...and take advantage of using Paragon or Renegade conversation options when you think you can either shake down somebody for more money or guilt trip someone into paying you

Scanning planets beats driving the motherfucking mako

Drive for 10 minutes in one direction to discover that the anomally is a space probe that you cant even recover because of a low tech skill, so you have to put the dream team AKA Wrex and Ashley on the bench and bring the faggots AKA Tali and Alenko, drive for another 10 minutes in the motherfucking mako ONLY to discover that the contents of the space probe are not only USELESS, but not useable because you already have a full backpack of shitty useless weapons from the other 100 admiral hackett-induced motherfucking mako missions, so 20 wasted minutes = +5 omni gel!

Drive another 20 minutes in the opposite direction find a fucking cargo room, I know the map says its either a "geth outpost, scientific outpost, mercenary outpost, research lab, abandoned mine" or whatever, but we all know its just a room with fucking boxes.

Picked the Revenant as the weapon upgrade for my soldier...total waste. It's so inaccurate that it's barely usable on people more than 10 feet away.

^^^yeah regardless of the planet, and the name of the building, it was always the same lame ass building footprint with an entrance room leading to a big room with a bunch of crates, and like 2 side hallways that might yield some extra ammo

^^no, I don't think I've picked that up yet, since I hadn't mined enough iridium...

Does it make enough of a difference? My Collector's rifle had pretty good accuracy even without it.

How lame is the weapon selection?

You only change weapons maybe 3 times the entire game.

Sheesh.

^ Hahaha.

Just finished ME1 and ordered the collector's edition of ME2 this afternoon. I'll probably either play through again or work on Bioshock until it gets here. Personally, I liked Tali. I would switch between Ashley and Liara depending on how I felt. I played through as an Infiltrator wishing I had more biotic abilities but sniping people is freakin awesome. I wanted to use Garrus but I had no use for another combat/tech person.

I was a prick to Garret in the first game and rolled almost exclusively with Ashley and Rex, so I was worried he was going to hold a grudge against me when I saved him from the Blood Pack. But he either forgot or buried the hatchet, because me and him have been boys ever since.

Yea Garrus was originally part of the dreamteam with me and Wrex, but some glitch caused him to take cover behind a cargo box, pinning me down into the level so that I couldn't move, resulting in my death, resulting in me losing about 20 minutes worth of exploration and driving in the motherfucking mako because I never remember to save. So I had to put him on the bench.

Im getting glitches on the PC version where I walk to an area and then all of the sudden I am walking above the floor (invisible walls, think no clipping) and sometimes have to reload to get out of it. Any fixes for this?

Yea when the game loads you want to make sure you arent moving, or else you can walk into previously solid objects and get stuck.

I got stuck in the galaxy map, but if you are in range of a dialogue option you can start that and it will pull you out.

Yea I just started playing this the other day and the weapon and armor selections are lame

In ME1 there was an almost infinite number of weapon and armor configs and it was up to you to find or buy all the stuff, you could spend hours tweaking each character's setup if you wanted to, some people may have hated that but it was half the fun for me. Now there are like 4 or 5 armors (only one of which is even customizable if you don't count the lame upgrades), and 3 or 4 weapons and they're only given to you at predetermined times as parts of missions. Yea I get that they were probably trying to make the game a little less daunting for the casual player but they took out a lot of its depth in the process.

90% of those weapons and armors were completely useless, even compared to weapons and armor of the same level.

I mean, by the end of the game EVERYONE is using Spectre weapons and Colossus or Predator H/M/L armor.

I do miss the swappable upgrades a bit, but I do not miss the piles of useless junk weapons and retarded 10 level system at all.

If they kept the same system they have in ME2, added one more of each weapon type, another armor that lets you change the color, and gave swappable upgrades (but not in levels) then I think it would be perfect.

Do all the weapons get better based on their model number?

Specifically, is the new downloadable shotgun, the S-22b Eviscerator, better than the S-27b Scimitar Assault Shotgun? Or is the S-22b just good for people just starting the game?

New shotgun is awesome, but whether it's better than the Scimitar depends on how you play.

New shotgun does more damage per shot, does much better damage to armor, and has a tighter spread (so it's better at medium range). But it only holds 3 shots per clip and the refire rate is really slow.

Scimitar is a bit weaker per shot and is only good at close range, but fires fast and holds 8 shots per clip.

On my first ME1 playthrough I hated the inventory set up, but once you get used to it, its actually legit. I liked the leveling and the inventory system from ME1 a lot better.

Yea after a point anything under the spectre gear is obselete, but the way you could customize the weapons with attachments was cool. I wish they had added more depth instead of limited and simplified everything, but simple appeals to the wallets of casual gamers.

I never use anything other than the assault rifle unless I run out of ammo for it, I was the same in ME1 I bet I shot less than 25 shots with all the other weapons combined

The assault rifle's my staple, but I'm using much more variety in ME2 than I did in the original...the Incisor is awesome for long-range takedowns, there are occasionally close-quarters areas where the shotgun is really helpful, and heavy weapons are great for the boss fights.

And I was wrong before...the Revenant is indeed awesome once you get the accuracy upgrade.

Ok, just finished playing through it. Thoughts without spoilers:

1) Combat system has been significantly revamped. I got used to this, but, the initial levels can be confusing to adjust to it.

2) The level cap is set to 30 ... I already hit that my first playthrough. Replay value is MUCH lower for me using New Game+ (better to reimport an ME1 character). At least bump is up to whatever the max is to max out your skills on your characters.

3) Weapon upgrades ... give me the flexibility ME1 had. An improved inventory system really isn't that hard to come up with. This crap of scanning planets for minerals is tolerable the first playthrough, annoying thereafter.

4) Story ... excellent. There are several little things added into the game which expand details on the ME universe hinted at but never fully explored in ME1. Main plot itself will leave you wanting to play ME3.

5) EA, try making a profit this year. When your marketing costs exceed your development costs, you have a problem. (Yes, go read their financial statements to verify this). You really do NOT need to market the hell out of this thing like you have.

Overall, $50 was a bit much to pay for this ... fixing it to add replay value would make it worth the full price.

You couldn't max out your skills in the first one either.

ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL OF THIS POST

I, too, am skeptical as to how effective marketing for Mass Effect 2 was.

If I had no idea what Mass Effect was, saw some commercial of a bald chick with tattoos throwing blue electricity at robots, I would say "wtf thats gay shit".

I would think that the majority of Mass Effect players made their purchasing decision/became aware of ME2 based off of:

-They played KOTOR or ME1 and knew Bioware was legit
-Their friends played ME1 and spread the word that ME2 was coming
-They were just well informed nerds and saw ME2's good reviews

So I would think that ME2 will end up selling 3-4 million copies based mainly off of the above, regardless of advertising on TV.

Definetly enjoyed the game. Replaying it through on Insanity.

Only thing I don't like is that everybody can die in the game, which probobly means none of the squad will be back in ME3.

This game is worth every penny. Especially with all the loyalty missions. Though they could have thrown in some more side missions.

^They cant keep having the crews of each game coming back and creating different experiences depending on who you left alive. Otherwise you get too many combinations. I really want to play it through and have some people die at the end just to see what happens in ME3.
