what is that piped in shit they play before every kick. i hope they don't keep that up. thats some ecu type of shit. rock n roll between every play.

try looking at the last post.[Edited on September 7, 2008 at 3:27 PM. Reason : i kind of liked it.. how the hell is that specific to ECU?]

While I agree completely with not booing your team, the "you couldn't do better" argument is one of my biggest pet peeves ever; it's a cop out.
9/7/2008 3:28:00 PM
why, its the truth ... is it not? could you do better? i couldnt.[Edited on September 7, 2008 at 3:38 PM. Reason : ,,,]
9/7/2008 3:38:42 PM
could he do any worse?.......thats the question
9/7/2008 3:40:46 PM
It doesn't matter whether or not you or I could do any better. In being a member of a major college athletics team, a player is subject to the criticism of his supporters. His full ride is funded in part by my dollars, I am allowed to voice my concerns in a manner I see fit. I think it's dumb and immature to hysterically boo any player for anything, and anyone who does shouldn't be taken seriously to begin with, but if Daniel Evans is shitting the bed, I'm allowed to boo him. It isn't disrespectful, it isn't rude, it's a kick in the fucking ass; don't play quarterback like a 12 year-old girl and you won't get booed.
9/7/2008 3:45:45 PM
While I don't believe in booing college athletes, the "you couldn't do any better" is an argument that I wish would just go away. Hey I'm not a politician, but I sure as hell can criticize them when they do stupid things (i.e. the Charlotte city council not making the Bobcats pay for the off duty police directing traffic which is pretty much the norm everywhere else).

college players should never be booedwell, of course opposing players should be, but not your own
9/7/2008 4:49:29 PM
I normally say don't boo college kids and I didn't boo after the first drive, but that was some of the most inept play on offense I've ever seen. My hope was the boos would make Daniel go fetal so that we'd finally send another QB out there.
9/7/2008 5:02:30 PM
If anything...boo the coach who is playing them...I don't think Evans or any other athelete who is playing bad is doing it on purpose. The ones who deserve to be booed are the lazy ones or the ones who make stupid penalties or are sandbagging shit.
9/7/2008 5:07:23 PM
9/7/2008 6:33:10 PM
You don't get booed unless you play at or below the caliber of Daniel Evans. And if a guy sucks that badly, I'd rather him not be recruited in the first place.
9/7/2008 6:43:53 PM
You haven't got a leg to stand on when you criticize the boos. Like you could boo any better.^Really. When Evans started Saturday I thought "I'll be ecstatic if it's just and incomplete pass." Let alone a completed pass to out team. That though stayed with me for what? A grand total of 2 downs.[Edited on September 7, 2008 at 7:41 PM. Reason : =]
9/7/2008 7:35:27 PM
yeah, fans who pay good money and invest a lot of time in following their school and their athletic programs have no right to boo when they play like shit it's not just the losing that is a problem, it's the fact that it's embarrassing... and if there were recruits there, they probably knew the boos were because the team was playing like shit, not because we're a bunch of meanie fans

^^So, how does Daniel Evans not being recruited subtract from the point he was trying to make... which I think was "If you suck and don't like to be booed at, don't come to NCSU 'cause you'll be booed." [Edited on September 7, 2008 at 7:53 PM. Reason : -]
9/7/2008 7:52:24 PM
Daniel Evans was recruited. It was his brother Andrew who walked-on. Now the actual recruitment though didn't take long. We probably spent a grand total of a week truly recruiting him and then formally offering him a scholarship. I think he said in an interview he had an offer from Wake and a few smaller schools that weren't BCS schools (SMU was one of them iirc) and a few D-IAA schools.
9/7/2008 8:39:06 PM
Evans was the fall back when we didn't land Brent Schaeffer. Giving him a scholarship was kind of like striking out with the hot girl at the bar and settling for the one with a good personality.
9/7/2008 8:47:41 PM
you don't boo college players. they're not professionals. I thought everyone knew that
9/7/2008 9:12:14 PM
this game further fuels/justifies my idea that I will probably tailgate to every game, but I'll be damned if I'm spending a penny on tickets this year...
9/7/2008 9:39:02 PM
^^Maybe they were booing the coaches who kept a shell-shocked QB in the game?

wownice fucking hitoh, andhttp://forums.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=178&f=2515&t=2951393regarding the boos:"there were several family members of the 10 or so recruits at the game who said they were surprised and disappointed with the crowd Saturday. One said "there's always somebody who boos, but the whole place was giving Evan hell"."great job guys, keep it up!!![Edited on September 8, 2008 at 12:31 PM. lol, not sure why I didn't embed that video. But yeah, the idiots booing need to realize it hurts more than it helps.
9/8/2008 12:32:25 PM
i do hate the "you couldnt do any better argument" and agree 100% that we can criticize. HOWEVER, booing a college athlete when he makes a bad play is not something I am big on. I seriously doubt Evans is not trying his hardest, its not really his fault he is not 1-A material playing behind an O line that is not 1-A material. Booing from his own team can have no impact besides a negative one in his case imo.The kid is playing pretty poor, but what is booing going to do for him? and for recruits at the game? absolutely nothing positive, thats for sure.unless he is OBVIOUSLY not trying (huge difference but playing poorly) or one of our players is displaying poor sportsmanship that we should not condone, there isnt really a reason to boo our own team.
9/8/2008 12:39:03 PM
I don't think that making a big deal out of hits at the W&M game do any good. When we finally get a chance to play a good team this year we will get waxed and the injury's will keep coming.
9/8/2008 12:46:12 PM
The booing thing happens, plain and simple. When you get 60,000 passionate, mostly intoxicated fans into one place, people are going to react emotionally. Even if 1/4 of them boo, that's 15,000 people.I think a lot of the crowd was just so pissed off we couldn't get a first down against a 1AA team, the emotions came out. Everyone else just sort of adopted a "if you can't beat em, join attitude."Sucks hearing about the recruits, but can you imagine if Evans had stayed in the game and we would've lost?? They probably would've been a little more disappointed.

Someone needs to make a "when to cheer" instructional video and get it played up on the screens before a game starts. We never make noise when the other team is in their huddle, we generally wait until ~5s before they snap the ball which really doesn't do very much.
9/8/2008 3:10:42 PM
realized today i have a class with Russell Wilson. dude looks like Michael from The Wire
9/8/2008 3:15:10 PM
9/8/2008 3:17:03 PM
we have been over the "when to cheer" stuff before...During the Rivers era, they actually put up signs on the jumbotron that said "QUIET OFFENSE AT WORK" and then we were on defense it said "CHEER CHEER CHEER" NOISE NOISE NOISEand fans are going to boo when the game isn't going their way or someone isn't performing... it wasn't just 3 people booing, i'd wager it was at least half the stadium. so over 20,000 people had the same idea
9/8/2008 3:47:59 PM
I thought it was pretty nice how the dude on the speakers (in the student section) tried to get everyone to start a cheer while our offense was in the huddle. Make it even harder on an inept offense.[Edited on September 8, 2008 at 4:30 PM. Reason : clarification]
9/8/2008 4:30:00 PM
The dude on the speakers makes sitting in the 7/8 section almost unbearable

This is a Luke Decock column from today's N&O
9/9/2008 12:33:04 PM
typical, I really wouldnt expect any less from the N&OEvans has played terribly for the last two games. He had his chance to win the starting job back after Wilson got hurt, but he squandered that away. Yes, it sucks that he was such a big State fan and got booed off the field, but every single player who has ever been booed has some sort of heart-wrenching back story that could be an excuse for them to not be booed. As someone said before, if you dont want to get booed, pull up your bootstraps and start playing better[Edited on September 9, 2008 at 12:38 PM. Reason : asd]
9/9/2008 12:37:57 PM
again, disclaimer: i did not actually 'boo'it's nothing personal against evans, but he absolutely needed to be taken out of that game.
9/9/2008 12:39:10 PM
I mean, of course you feel bad for him butthe boos weren't "fuck you Daniel Evans" chantsthe boos were more than likely being expressed at the entire inept offense we put on the field -- quarterback, receivers, running backs, offensive line, and coaches all included
