I think everyone played really well. I can't think of any time when I could call out an player for playing poorly. Spain played a helluva game in the final and it still wasn't enough. The FIBA Championship in 2 years might start looking more and more like the World Cup only for basketball now that the USA actually gives a shit.

^ I feel ya on thatThe one coaching move that Coach K did that really stood out to me was:How he handled CP3 and D williamsplaying them together and not naming either one as the backup they thrived out on the court

Chris Paul was the single biggest reason no team tried to play zone against us for an extended period of time. He would have tore any zone defense to shreds.

leadership is a quality that applies to anything, you couldn't come close to convincing a jury that talking about leadership was a recruiting message. i just think that a lot of people dislike coach k and other coaches that get national notoriety. some coaches don't ever want to do tv commercials and the like, and some that do grow to be hated because they have more of a national platform. that's the nature of sports though...to make accusations of any commercial being illegal is very far fetched and reeks of bias, jealousy, or hatred, if not a combination of the three.
8/26/2008 12:01:55 PM
any ad that has a coach in it could be construed as a recruiting ad, but mostly in this case its people just hating on K]
8/26/2008 12:02:13 PM
The ONLY reason I have an AMEX is because of Coach K
8/26/2008 1:44:43 PM
^^^ with K it has a lot to do with that one NCAA tourney a few years back where literally every commercial break was him doing an ad. He was like the "This is Our Country" ads during the baseball playoffs in '06...
8/26/2008 1:46:58 PM
and? did it land him superior talent over the last couple seasons?
8/26/2008 1:48:18 PM
Who are you trying to argue with?Did I say it did?
8/26/2008 1:49:57 PM
you're the only one complaining about K being in commercials, you tell mewell you and rallytake off your connecticut blinders for a split second[Edited on August 26, 2008 at 1:52 PM. Reason : .]
8/26/2008 1:51:12 PM
Stop looking for an argument. There is nothing there.I'm complaining about him being in the commercials the same way I complain about that Mellencamp song or Mike Patrick. You were trying to initiate an argument with me like I think he has some unfair recruiting advantage that has helped him... which is absurd.

I found this simulation of the Redeem Team against the Dream Team, they said the Redeem team would win best of 7. I thinks they are full of shit. What are your thoughts?http://www.whatifsports.com/beyondtheboxscore/default.asp?article=20080821b
8/26/2008 4:42:04 PM
its impossible to compare erasi'll tell you one thing though...the 1992 Dream Team didn't play any opponents nearly as good as some of the recent Spanish and Argentinian teams...the international competition back then was a JOKE^^^sorry, i thought you were echoing rally's argument like he claimed on page 8...btw grow a little thicker skin]

Dude that ad was basically like he was sitting across from me in the living room asking me to come play for Duke. I dont think we need to get a jury involved. I noticed you bypassed the Chris Duhon scandal. It's tough to say which team is really better. I think '92 team would have an advantage being that they played with guys who were great passers like Johnson, Bird, Barkley, etc. Those guys understood ball movement and that is lethal when you have so many talented scorers. The '08 team would have a disruptive advantage in athleticism though. Pretty much every player on that team is in his prime (sans Kidd) or blossoming into their primes like LBJ, Bosh, Paul, and Howard...while the '92 team featured a few guys near the end of their career like Bird, Magic, and Mullin. It'd definitely be a good game no doubt. The '92 team's size might be the defining factor though. I can't see a raw Dwight Howard and Carlos Boozer really getting the best of D.Robinson and P.Ewing in their prime.[Edited on August 26, 2008 at 7:30 PM. Reason : a]

Why doesn't Duncan play for the US?Its not like the Virgin Islands has a basketball team.
8/26/2008 10:36:15 PM
i just saw coach k's arthritis commercialI WANT TO GO TO DUKE!!!!
8/26/2008 11:07:41 PM
^^ He did play for the US (2004)
8/27/2008 9:52:07 AM
I'm saying why doesn't he play now. He's definitely better than Boozer, and is better at most things than Bosh.
8/28/2008 12:51:53 AM
he's the best basketball player in the world.
8/28/2008 1:01:26 AM
i'm sure they asked him...maybe since he is a little older he was more worried about his NBA career...maybe he looks at it like he's already done his service to the country or whatever^best BIG MAN basketball playerits hard to compare him to a wing guy like kobe[Edited on August 28, 2008 at 1:02 AM. 8/28/2008 1:01:57 AM
They practically begged Duncan to play on the team. He hates FIBA basketball, and after playing on the 1999 Qualifying team (injury forced him out of the 2000 Olympics), and the 2004 Olympic team, he said his FIBA career was over. IIRC, he basically said he hates the rules of FIBA and hates the treatment he gets from refs, and had no interest in ever playing FIBA again. He probably hated playing with Stephon Marbury also.

first game against Serbia on July 28th. Let's go[Edited on July 12, 2024 at 1:40 AM. Reason : i wish we had Gus and Raftery calling the Olympic games]
7/12/2024 1:38:49 AM
Did Embiid not want to play for whatever country he came from?
7/12/2024 1:42:58 AM
He could've played for Cameroon, France or the US. He said he was playing for the US for his son, who was born here.
7/12/2024 2:48:11 AM
Cool. Welcome to the team I say.
