5/25/2008 10:27:07 PM
How cool is the new USS North Carolina?
5/25/2008 11:02:02 PM
What's your MOS? (Or Navy equivalent)
5/25/2008 11:14:26 PM
I was 63B for like a month.
5/26/2008 2:23:07 AM
^^I'll be 1160.^^^Very cool, I was on board her when she got christened. Can't say much. One thing I don't like is how they partially automated things. Rickover's rolling in his grave because one of his big things was humans being involved.[Edited on May 26, 2008 at 10:43 AM. Reason : .]
5/26/2008 10:41:17 AM
i start a civilian job with the navy on the 9thdoes this make me gay? or is it cool because its a civilian position?
5/26/2008 12:26:18 PM
it's cool because you're a civilian. i mean, you're not stuck with the government, but you still get the benefits of working for them
5/26/2008 2:14:33 PM
Rickover was a prick
5/26/2008 2:37:26 PM
Yea, the whole one old 4-star admiral who's at least 15 years past being a sub captain deciding your future with recommendations from guys with 4.0s in Nuke Eng who will never spend a day as a line officer system is a little fucked up.
5/26/2008 2:40:30 PM
Why don't any of our branches goosestep and wildly swing their arms in unison?
5/29/2008 7:56:09 PM
We want to look Amurican, dammit.
6/1/2008 4:53:09 PM
^^
6/1/2008 4:54:29 PM
the fly by wire stuff on the North Carolina is a little disconcerning to me, I was on an LA class and the camera on the periscope kept fucking up, and the Virginia class only uses a camera....
6/1/2008 5:31:02 PM
Does modern naval training at any point include playing Battleship?
6/15/2008 10:34:00 PM
Sadly, no. But I'm always up for a game or two.
6/17/2008 4:51:08 PM
some war games are a lot like battle ship except with real boats....you shoot flairs off to "kill" the enemy ships....I got to play in one last summer off australia, rouge sub attacking a fleet, we raped them....until a P-3 raped us....
6/17/2008 9:01:09 PM
you serious? daaaamn.
6/20/2008 10:17:25 PM
do you have any interest in becoming a SEAL or a member of The Company?
6/20/2008 10:51:36 PM
I'm not insane enough to become a SEAL.But join the Company? Well, I would certainly think about it if offered a position.
6/20/2008 10:55:31 PM
what is your specialty?
6/20/2008 10:57:59 PM
Surface warfare. I wanted submarines, but I was turned down for the nuclear program. There's no real specialization within surface warfare because throughout a career, you'll serve on various classes of ship. However, it is one of the most intense and demanding jobs in the Navy. However, after a few years of service in the surface fleet, I'd pretty much be qualified to manage anything, or go train in anything else.
6/20/2008 11:04:15 PM
^^^ i wanted to be a SEAL officer...but it's ridiculously hard to get selected by virtue of it being super competitive...there are only a tiny number of spaces available, and a bunch of people who want them. in addition to being a physical animal (which i definitely was at the time, though swimming was at least relatively not my strong suit), you had to have damn near a 4.0 GPA, which, partially because of being a mechanical engineer, I did not.they do some awesome stuff, but it's a very hard lifestyle (in terms of never being home), and they use their bodies up pretty badly. i'm glad now I ended up going USMC and going aviation.[Edited on June 20, 2008 at 11:06 PM. Reason : asfdasd]
6/20/2008 11:05:42 PM
How does the marine aviation lifestyle compare to other marine MOSs?
6/20/2008 11:15:22 PM
umm, it's a little more relaxed (on average) than the ground combat MOS's like infantry, arty, tanks, etc. still the Marine Corps, though.
6/20/2008 11:16:41 PM
are you allowed to have sex in your uniform?
6/20/2008 11:21:26 PM
PDA is frowned upon, but what happens behind closed doors is behind closed doors.
6/20/2008 11:22:58 PM
do you run marathons and or participate in tris?
6/20/2008 11:24:37 PM
i've never personally, but a few of my fellow sailors and Marines have.we usually send a group up to DC for the Marine Corps Marathon every year.
6/20/2008 11:25:53 PM

6/20/2008 11:28:40 PM
ok all insults aside...do you ever learn classified stuff? i figure i'm not allowed to ask you what the classified stuff is but if there is classified info you can at least confirm it exists
6/20/2008 11:29:13 PM
of course there is classified informationwhat do you think security clearances are for?[Edited on June 20, 2008 at 11:34 PM. Reason : most of it isn't that interesting, though. a good bit of it is technical data.]
6/20/2008 11:30:07 PM
dnl asks a stupid questionno surpriseits like expecting the sun to come up tomorrow, you know it will happen
6/20/2008 11:32:15 PM
I had a friend list me as a reference when he was trying to get his clearance for AF. The female government interviewer showed up at my house on Bagwell and asked me about his character, drinking habits, any possible drug use, etc. After she left I realized that during the interview I had been wearing the novelty "I <3 BOOBIES" t-shirt that I'd purchased in the Galapagos. I was worried that I might have hurt his chances, but he got it.
