damn. This is the most intense I've felt about an NBA game since the playoffs last year.

I'm pleased with Shaq's debut so far. I think it will work. I can't make a real decision based on one game. I dont' think he's slowed them. You can see where his presence helped protect the basket and rebounding but I'm sure marion was missed

The free throw shooting is killer. hopefully he can shoot at least 50 percent from the line.

Suns rumored to be looking at Artest. Don't know who they would give up though. Maybe a combination of Diaw and some other players.

"Every top team in the Western Conference has made a significant move this season. Every team, that is, except the one at the very top.

Well, that ended Thursday when the New Orleans Hornets made a trade of their own.

The Hornets, Houston Rockets and Memphis Grizzlies finalized a multi-player swap that sends Mike James and Bonzi Wells to New Orleans, with Bobby Jackson, Adam Haluska and a second-round draft pick going to Houston.

New Orleans officially announced the deal Thursday afternoon, an hour before the 3 p.m. ET NBA trading deadline."

I'm sure Artest doesn't end up in PHX, but he would be an even better fit than Marion. He is basically the same player as Marion except he is better at guarding larger defenders. He's a better post player. Marion is a better rebounder. Ok i'm done rambling, but the thought of that trade just had my wheels turning

Not true. He gets shooters and bolsters the interior D. They got rid of Hughes and resolved needs without having to trade Gibson.

I think this is a great trade for the Cavs...considering they really had NOTHING to offer anyone. The Sonics got nothing out of this except for getting rid of Wally's contract.

The Cavs needed a shooter, and they got one in Wally. Hughes has been a ridiculous disappointment for them (although recent 40-pt game was nice...that's about all he's done this year and last year). But Hughes was a decent ball-handler, but I think they replace that with West. So in all...that's a pretty good improvement.

It kinda sucks that they lost Gooden, but I think he's failed to become they player that they thought he would be. He kind of plateaued a couple years ago and has settled into being just a good role player. I personally think Wallace sucks, but maybe this trade will rejuvenate him and he and Varejo (when healthy) will provide a formidable interior defense and rebounding tandem. And I think Joe Smith is just as effective as Gooden is on the offensive side.

It might not be a blockbuster trade...but I definitely think the Cavs are vastly improved by this trade and should compete in the East to make it in the Finals (before this trade, I think there is no way they get by the Celtics or Pistons...this trade gives them a chance).

Yeah I'm sure he's bouncing off the fucking walls right now

A washed up undersized center, a shooter who couldn't get along with KG, and assorted spare parts

Either way, they still don't make it past the second round

No matter what the Cavs did, it was still gonna be Detroit vs Boston in the ECF

^^That too. Non-NBA fans don't understand contracts in regards to trades. It took me an hour to explain the Devon George fiasco to my roommate...as well as putting in players like Van Horn and Aaron McKie into trades. Shit was...I was a little confused myself.

Expiring contracts in the NBA are worth their weight in gold

It doesn't work in baseball because you get draft picks when someone signs your guys

and in football you can just cut a motherfucker whenever you feel like it

^^Absolutely. Im wondering if Joe Smith can do anything with LBJ getting him the ball. That would just be a bonus. I think Shannon Brown could potentially be a good player.

Hughes will fit much better in Chicago's System.

Smith looked suprisingly good the couple times I saw the Bulls play @ Charlotte this season...even in the one game where he missed probably his first 5 LAYUPS and finished with like 19 points

^they just pretty much said WE HAVE A 2 YEAR CHAMPIONSHIP WINDOW in which case they're going all out

anybody but the Cavs apparently

I think Wallace NEVER fit in with Chicago...even when they got rid of Skiles and Wallace was allowed to wear his afro without getting fined and benched...never fit in...he'll get some rebirth type shit in Cleveland

I wouldn't...and I don't think the Cavs would either. If you make that trade straight up, you've got one aging, old as shit center in Ilgauskus as your only interior scoring option (Varejo gets scrappy points). I don't think the deal would have gone through without Joe Smith. Joe Smith and Wallace combined are a lot better than Gooden. But Wallace for Gooden straight up isn't a good trade.

Wallace has sucked pretty hard this year (at least considering his contract as someone stated earlier). And they has ZERO offensive game.

this wasn't a straight up deal

This was "Take Hughes' contract for us and we'll take Wallace's for you...the rest, besides Szerbiak was just filler

wallace turned to shit when he went from detroit to chicago

i think he'll thrive in cleveland

gooden is trash wherever he plays

and i know you guys would obviously take Wallace over Gooden if contracts didnt factor in

Wallace is getting 5 and 9 right now with a block and a half

What do you think, he's gonna go 8 and 15 like he did with Detroit?

I don't see him making much of an impact other than fumbling half of Bron's lobs

[Edited on February 21, 2008 at 5:07 PM. Reason : you can't "if contracts didn't factor in"..they always do-why didn't Denver trade Kleiza for Artest?]

yeah i do...chicago hurt wallace's everything...he needs a change...the bulls are a horribly run organization

ok then...i'd rather have wallace and wally than hughes and gooden ANY day, especially when you already have lebron and gibson

dont forget, wallace's performance in detroit earned him that big free agent money...i just think chicago was never the right fit...he fucked up their chemistry and vice versa...plus imagine going to a new job where you are the man commanding big millions, and your coach is like "yeah if you wear an afro i'm going to bench and fine you"...fuck that franchise and how its run...even withi Skiles gone...Paxson is batshit

I'm not arguing it makes Cleveland better...but marginally so, because they won't advance any further in the playoffs

So what does it really accomplish?

Wallace will thrive in Cleveland like he did in Detroit

you heard it here first, except for the other NBA analysts who are echoing my sentiments

i dunno, they figure they have to do something to compete with Detroit and Boston

I'm surprised the Spurs made the move for Kurt Thomas...I figured they would be content with where they were at if anybody would

We're on the same page with Wallace...but I think the trade overall improves Cleveland. Before the trade I saw them getting out of the first round, then falling to either Boston or Detroit...whoever they met first.

I really think this puts them on a competitive level with those two teams. I wouldn't put money on them right now to represent the East...I'd like to see them play with the new guys first...but it definitely gives them the opportunity, which I don't think they had before the trade.

Wally will hit open threes all day, which Lebron will give him when he keeps driving and drawing defenders. Before, Lebron would drive and dish it to Marshall and Hughes, who would brick at least half of their open threes. Now he has Gibson and Wally...much improved.

And Smith has been having a solid year for Chicago. I think the combo of he and Wallace will be an improvement over Gooden. And West can relieve some ball-handling pressure.

It's not a blockbuster trade...but it does improve Cleveland.

And back to the Wallace thing....I don't even know if you throw out the contracts...that I still wouldn't take Gooden. Wallace gives you nothing....I mean nothing on the offensive end...except maybe a couple offensive boards a game. You are essentially playing 4 on 5 on the offensive side when he's in the game. He's not chopped liver on the defensive side...but he's lost a half a step and a little athleticism since his prime days in Detroit.

i agree wallace gives you nothing on the offensive end, i just think gooden is one of the worst starters in the nba

gooden gives you 11 ppg at 44% fg shooting, which while better than wallace, is not good for a PF...he's got 35 steals and 30 blocks this year to wallace's 69 steals and 80 blocks...dont act like wallace didnt get defensive POY just a couple years ago...i personally think Chicago was the exception and not the rule...but i think what cleveland is trying to do is somehow make up for losing boozer 2 years ago which its obviously too late to make up for

[Edited on February 21, 2008 at 6:04 PM. Reason : they're both averaging about 30-32 minutes per game]
