GoPack.com is doing interviews with all of the freshmen. They have videos at the top that everyone can watch. Some of them seem nervous, which I can't blame them. They go from little known high school star to being interviewed often. Also you factor in that this is how a lot of State fans will first hear them, and you know that they would like to impress. A lot of pressure comes with being a D-I athlete, especially at a big basketball school like NC State. They come out as follows: * Monday – Johnny Thomas * Tuesday – Javi Gonzalez, Clayton Beard * Wednesday – Tracy Smith * Thursday – J.J. HicksonJohnny Thomashttp://www.gopack.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=9200&ATCLID=1258782Javi Gonzalez and Clayton Beardhttp://www.gopack.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=41959&SPID=3731&DB_OEM_ID=9200&ATCLID=1264612

The freshmen will get more comfortable in talking to the media in the coming years. Besides a lot of them will lose any shyness during their time in college. It's good to hear from them all that the veteran players have helped them when they are in need, and have helped them get oriented to everything. I've heard that the team is like a big family and that the guys routinely hang out together.[Edited on October 9, 2007 at 11:13 PM. Reason : ]

Bookmakers don't think NC State has that great of a chance to win it all. What does everyone think about this? I can't see UCLA NOT winning it all this year.... LOL I just noticed the 2nd to last team, hehehe North Carolina 5.50 UCLA 9.00 Louisville 9.00 Memphis 11.00 Georgetown 14.00 Duke 16.00 Kansas 19.00 Kentucky 21.00 Baylor 21.00 Syracuse 21.00 USC 21.00 Arizona 23.00 Indiana 26.00 Michigan State 26.00 Stanford 26.00 Notre Dame 31.00 Tennessee 31.00 Oregon 31.00 U Connecticut 31.00 Washington State 31.00 Boston College 34.00 Pittsburgh 34.00 Arkansas 36.00 Alabama 41.00 Marquette 41.00 Georgia Tech 41.00 Mississippi State 41.00 Villanova 41.00 Washington 41.00 Gonzaga 46.00 Illinois 51.00 Maryland 51.00 Depaul 51.00 West Virginia 51.00 Ohio State 51.00 North Carolina State 51.00 Texas 51.00 Virginia Tech 61.00 Kansas State 61.00 LSU 61.00 Wisconsin 67.00 Texas A&M 76.00 Texas Tech 76.00 Florida 76.00 Clemson 81.00 Florida State 81.00 Virginia Commonwealth U 81.00 Virginia 81.00 Oklahoma 81.00 Oklahoma State 81.00 Iowa 101.00 Georgia 101.00 Michigan 101.00 BYU 126.00 Miami Florida 131.00 Arizona State 151.00 Air Force 251.00[Edited on October 10, 2007 at 11:47 AM. ^ Depaul, Georgia Tech, Duke at 16.00 !! just to name a few worth pointing out as total crapThe guys who came up with this list don't know their asses from a hole in the ground. I mean we beat the team at the top of the list once and almost beat them a second time. And that was w/ mucho less depth and a point guard at 75% health. How do we somehow get worse by gaining players and experience? Atsur was good for us, but not that good.
10/10/2007 11:54:41 AM
10/10/2007 11:57:58 AM
^ You're probably right, but Duke at 16.00? I mean come on. Their one true big man is Zoubek. And their gaurds are just ok imo. Do the makers of the list really think Kyle Singler alone somehow makes them a contender all of a sudden? If they do, I stand by my original statement.
10/10/2007 12:00:23 PM
I am sure they take a shitload of information into consideration, not just new players, etc.Just one of many possible examples.... Say, hypothetically, Duke and State have identical ACC records, and split wins at home. Hypothetically, they are the "same" teams. When it comes time for selection-honestly, who do you think gets the better seed(and easier first couple of games)-Duke or State? All that matters is the tourney and who has the best shot to do well in March.
10/10/2007 12:07:31 PM
^ Yeah, but their tourney performance last year, when they still had McRoberts, doesn't instill a lot of confidence in someone betting on this group of Duke players to win the tournament. At least not if the better was me. I'd put more stock in State's ACC tourney performance last year. The kids we have now know how to get it done in crunch time.[Edited on October 10, 2007 at 12:10 PM. Reason : it not in]
10/10/2007 12:10:09 PM
Now that I've thought about it more, I am pretty sure the most plausible explanation to these odds is this.....The bookmakers are catering to the betting public. If someone was to compile a real list with the actual, probable odds of winning the NC, State would very likely be much lower. UCLA would most def. be lower as well, but the bookmakers are banking on the public taking the lower odds on the more popular teams that really shouldn't have such low odds.
10/10/2007 12:20:38 PM
and that's how bookies work.

http://www.miamiherald.com/sports/story/266044.html Determined to boost men's basketball attendance, UM is about to unveil some of the most creative ideas we have ever seen from a local team. Besides dropping most season-ticket prices by about 50 percent, UM will add a hot tub, a sandbox and lifeguard tower in the student seating section -- students will be encouraged to attend in beach attire -- and elsewhere in the arena, in-game shoe-shines, massages, haircuts and a computer work-station will be offered.
10/11/2007 5:25:50 PM
hahaha wtf?"Also, to get more students to the game, a ferry system consisting of homemade rafts and an old sailboat will begin departures to the arena two hours prior to gametime."
10/11/2007 5:31:10 PM
WOAH ESPN YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING MEthey actually talked about basketball and the midnight madness stuff without mentioning UNC.. unless it was during a different part of the showthat's amazing
10/13/2007 1:21:30 AM
^ If they had mentioned UNC, they would have also had to mention that Stuart Scott was hosting the event, and then people other than State fans might start to catch on to the biased reporting. And I'm only half kidding.
10/13/2007 1:25:25 AM
coach k is proven to work magic in march. plus they have lots of freshmen coming and and nobody knows how good they might be. being duke alone makes duke a popular pick every tournament just like unc. Maryland lost almost everything and is 51.00 because of gary williams. Uconn isn't good at all and they are 31.00 because with their coach they could have some amazing player come out of nowhere and get hot in march. this is not a who is the best team line. if you don't agree with the lines bet on them and make moeny or shutup because i took 5 dollars on ncstate to win it all. They probably won't but its a steal for those odds.

http://www.wral.com/sports/blogpost/1924039/NC State Media DayBy Jeff GravleyPosted: Oct. 12, 2007The ring is back on Sidney Lowe's right hand. It's the National Championship ring that Lowe earned as the Pack's point guard in 1983. He didn't wear it last year and people kept asking why. "Now it's time, " said NC State's second year coach. The Wolfpack was one win away from an ACC championship ring last year....highly unexpected but things are different going into this season. NC State has gone from hoping to have a good season to expecting to. As long as they find a point guard, the Pack should be in the upper echelon of the ACC.Sidney Lowe said right now he plans to have an 8-10 man rotation. "But I don't determine that. They do." The Pack's depth will especially be felt in the post. "I like our bigs," said Lowe. No longer will Ben McCauley have to beat and bang himself to a pulp and wear down at the end of games.Brandon Costner can lend a hand. So can freshmen Tracy Smith and JJ Hickson. Lowe said one of the things that has stood out about Hickson since he arrived on campus is his work ethic. State has had NCAA allowed workouts at 3:30 in the afternoon. That was Hickson's second workout of the day. He had already been in the gym at 6 that morning. "Coach gave me a key," Hickson quipped.Gavin Grant thinks this will be the best State team he's been a part of. So much so that the senior told Hickson he doesn't want to lose any more than 4 games this year. That's just what Pack fans would love to experience. This is a Sweet 16 team as long as they work as hard as they did a year ago.

Best teams of all time discussion.1973/1974 NC State (lost only one game in two years)1982 North Carolina (Perkins, Worthy, Doherty, Jimmy Black, and a guy known as Mike Jordan until a late jumper that turned him into Michael Jordan)1999 Duke1999 UCONN2005 UNC2005 Illinois1983 Houston2001 Duke2006/2007 Florida (nowhere near the most talented, but quite possibly the best "team" ever that knew when to clock in and get to work)1991/1992 Duke1990/1991 UNLV1982/1984/1985 Georgetown (3 Final Fours in 4 years with all resulting in them getting to the National Championship game, and winning it once in 1984, wow is all that can be said)1996/1997/1998 Kentucky (nearly won three championships in a row, a feat that has only been done by John Wooden's teams)1960 tOSU (John Havilcek and Jerry Lucas nuff said)1968 UCLA (Besides Alcindor, they had Lucius Allen, Mike Warren, Jr., Lynn Shackleford, and Mike Lynn that also averaged in double figures for the season)1972 UCLA (The Walton Gang swept through the regular season without a challenge, winning by an average margin of 32 points per game. Besides Walton, the young team also featured future first-round draft picks Keith Wilkes and Swen Nater, and Henry Bibby)1976 Indiana Hoosiers (the last team to go undefeated and win it all)1957 UNC1957 Kansas1955/1956 San Francisco1945/1946 Oklahoma State (formerly Oklahoma A&M)There are definitely some others that could be in the discussion, but these are just a few to start it off.

http://www.gopack.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=41959&SPID=3731&DB_OEM_ID=9200&ATCLID=1281045Raleigh, N.C. – NC State was in a unique situation last season, having three players on the squad that could practice but were not allowed to play due to NCAA transfer rules. Over the next few weeks, GoPack.com will catch up with all three players and give the Wolfpack fans a chance to get to know each one a bit more before the 2007-08 regular season starts. This week’s player is sophomore guard Marques Johnson. Johnson had his eye on NC State during the recruiting period coming out of high school, but decided to go and play at Tennessee instead. After playing in four games during the fall semester last season, Johnson decided he needed a changed and reconsidered NC State.Johnson enrolled at NC State for the spring semester, as was able to practice with the Pack the second half of last season. Now Johnson will be one of the players asked to fill the void in the backcourt by the graduation of four-year starter at the point, Engin Atsür. He will have to miss the fall semester games, but will be able to suit up in mid-December.GoPack: Why did you leave Tennessee last season?Johnson: Tennessee really just was not the right fit for me. NC State opened up a lot of opportunities for me, and I thought this is the place where I should be playing.GoPack: You were recruited by NC State out of high school right?Johnson: When I was coming out of high school, NC State at that time was in my final four at the end of recruiting. I really liked the program back then, and obviously I like it now.GoPack: What was different about NC State this time around?Johnson: I would say mostly the opportunity to play right now. I’ve always had a bond with Coach (Larry) Harris and seeing the opportunity at my position right now was a big part of it.GoPack: Was it hard to leave Tennessee after one semester?Johnson: It was a hard choice to leave. I made a lot of friends down there, and it was hard to leave all those new relationships I made.GoPack: What did you work on the most over the summer?Johnson: I would say really my all-around game, but in particular my shooting.GoPack: What is your role on this team?Johnson: Right now I think my style is a good fit. I’ll be playing pretty much both at point and shooting guard. There is a chance to get playing time this season, but I’ll just play wherever the coaches need me to that particular game.GoPack: What do you prefer to play?Johnson: I’d probably rather be out there as the point guard.GoPack: Do you think of it as a positive that you are at NC State now?Johnson: Getting to know all the guys and the coaching staff for this season, I couldn’t be in a better situation. I really feel myself growing as a player, and I’m just excited to get out on the court.
