been listening to cd2 all day and still haven't listened to the cd quality rip of ir. for those that have, does it sound any better?
12/3/2007 10:42:00 PM
bangers & mash sounds very -ish
12/4/2007 2:10:35 AM
haha, exactly the first thing that i thought after hearing the song for the first time
12/4/2007 2:21:57 AM
That is one of their big influences...Their name comes from the title of a Talking Heads song, afterall.
12/4/2007 2:54:37 PM
they (overall as a band) sound nothing like the Heads though, so I find that influence odd. Perhaps a lyrical influence, but definitely not in the music.!!! sounds a lot like Talking Heads if you want to hear a modern take on it.
12/4/2007 3:04:16 PM
as awesome as all of these bonus disc songs are, i am shocked by how many sloppy moments there are and obvious clipping on some tracks. radiohead has always prided themselves on flawless recordings and intricate playing no matter how many takes. as much time as they spent on these i'm just very surprised....
12/4/2007 8:47:20 PM
so i was listening to brian eno's another green world this morning and realized hunting bears is a complete rip off of zawinul/lavamore relevantly, bangers & mash is maybe my favorite song from either of the in rainbows discs -- probably because of the aping of talking heads[Edited on December 7, 2007 at 10:57 AM. numbwall, just wondering what you thought about the go slowly intro? it sounds really sloppy to me but every other radiohead fan seems to love it....don't know why i'm so picky. what do you think?
12/7/2007 9:10:38 PM
I didn't really like this album when I first heard it. But now I think it's fucking amazing. To everybody who said that the album bores them now, the complete opposite happened to me. I rate it head and shoulders above HTTT, and possibly even Amnesiac and Kid A.
12/8/2007 3:34:25 AM
^^ I like it, but I also think it is sorta sloppy, particularly from the 25 second mark to the 45 second mark. I don't like the long intro to 4 minute warning at all.

anyone get their discbox yet?
12/10/2007 9:27:14 AM
I wouldn't expect it in until later this week at the earliest.
12/10/2007 11:39:54 AM
does anyone know how it is being sent-- i.e., Fed-Ex or USPS?
12/10/2007 12:26:41 PM
12/10/2007 12:30:25 PM
listen to crosseyed and painless then listen to bangers and mash
12/10/2007 12:51:25 PM
i still don't see it. Radiohead isn't a thing like Talking Heads, not a thing. But just my take on it. I'm a much bigger TH fan than Radiohead, and have all of their albums...been a fan of theirs for years and years. But anyway, back to topic - the 2nd disc is pretty good....it is still definitely '2nd disc' material. I'm so glad they didnt try to make In Rainbows a straight up double album.
12/10/2007 12:55:48 PM
listen to crosseyed and painless (but don't watch the video)^ i think the idea behind the second disc is that it serves the same purpose as the other EPs (drill, how am i drving, com lag, etc), just without the release of singles to which these songs would be b-sides[Edited on December 10, 2007 at 1:07 PM. I just got home and I had the discbox waiting for me at the door! Really exciting. I'll give it a listen on vinyl tomorrow night.
12/11/2007 5:46:57 PM
just got mine, too
12/11/2007 6:27:56 PM
Just finally got back after a long day of work + basketball and found mine waiting for me.Awesome.
12/11/2007 9:35:01 PM
i guess i'm gonna have to wrestle up some sleeves to have these in the car/at worki ain't gonna haul the box around...ahaoh and the material the record is made out of is great...like the hard stuff you find in older records from way back[Edited on December 11, 2007 at 9:58 PM. Reason : +]

Finally listened to the vinyl today and I really liked it all over again. I hope I don't drop this boxset on my foot. I could easily see it breaking my toes!

I wish I stilled lived in Raleigh. I haven't received my discbox down here in Columbia, SC
12/13/2007 6:07:23 PM
Look at the packaging for the In Rainbows CD according to PF:http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/page/news/47596-radiohead-reveal-cool-iin-rainbowsi-cd-packaging
12/14/2007 8:38:49 AM
after a good number of listens... 4 minute warning, up on the ladder, bangers & mash and ditnu are pretty amazing. last flowers and go slowly are beautiful but just sloppy and flawed which i'm not used to with radiohead.
12/16/2007 8:42:36 PM
the whole 'do it yourself' cd thing seemed a bit odd and just a neat gimmick, until the environmentally-friendly aspect was mentioned.
12/16/2007 10:58:16 PM
Hahaha, the readme on Disc 2 is great.
12/21/2007 2:44:54 PM
For my money, this is the best Radiohead albums since Kid A by leaps and fucking bounds
12/23/2007 10:32:17 PM
yeah this has grown on me the more I listen to it.Favorite things:15 StepNudeAll I Need(when the extra percussion comes in at 2:56 i splooge)VideotapeReckonerJigsaw...and pretty much the entire CD
12/26/2007 5:17:07 AM
I finally got to listen to the second disc and I was very impressed on my first listen. It would have been great if they would have put a little more time into it but considering the group of songs are kinda seen as throwaways I'm glad that we got decent versions of them at all. 4 Minute Warning and Down Is The New Up (love the strings on this one) are my favs. Also:

I am looking forward to this more than I am looking forward to having sex sometime in the next year.

anyone know of stores that might have radiohead albums discounted with the physical release of in rainbows?
1/1/2008 3:10:08 PM
I'm watching the concert right now. Who wouldn't want to play on all their equipment in that studio? I do wish they would have done the full out rock version of Videotape though. Phil didn't have anything to do.

so i read today that In Rainbows has only sold 9k copies since its release in physical form...
1/3/2008 2:34:10 PM
That is by far one of the most vague posts I have ever read. The actual quote "In the US ‘In Rainbows’ debuts prematurely due to street date violations at No. 157, with 9,000 copies sold, according to Billboard, which was released a day later (January 1)."
1/3/2008 2:50:06 PM
yea, that.

well i dont think they are saying its their best...it's hard for me not to fall back on "The Bends" which was such a crucial album in its time
1/5/2008 12:46:29 PM
It's weird that he says that, because if anything is there "Revolver" or "Hunky Dory" or "Transformer" it is OK Computer in a lot of different senses, regardless of what their 'best' album is.
1/5/2008 12:50:55 PM
Can "The Bends" be "Abbey Road" then?
