That is one of their big influences...

Their name comes from the title of a Talking Heads song, afterall.

they (overall as a band) sound nothing like the Heads though, so I find that influence odd. Perhaps a lyrical influence, but definitely not in the music.

!!! sounds a lot like Talking Heads if you want to hear a modern take on it.

as awesome as all of these bonus disc songs are, i am shocked by how many sloppy moments there are and obvious clipping on some tracks. radiohead has always prided themselves on flawless recordings and intricate playing no matter how many takes. as much time as they spent on these i'm just very surprised....

so i was listening to brian eno's another green world this morning and realized hunting bears is a complete rip off of zawinul/lava

more relevantly, bangers & mash is maybe my favorite song from either of the in rainbows discs -- probably because of the aping of talking heads

numbwall, just wondering what you thought about the go slowly intro? it sounds really sloppy to me but every other radiohead fan seems to love it....don't know why i'm so picky. what do you think?

I didn't really like this album when I first heard it. But now I think it's fucking amazing. To everybody who said that the album bores them now, the complete opposite happened to me. I rate it head and shoulders above HTTT, and possibly even Amnesiac and Kid A.

^^ I like it, but I also think it is sorta sloppy, particularly from the 25 second mark to the 45 second mark. I don't like the long intro to 4 minute warning at all.

i dont get this. i just heard bangers and mash and although a good song, not really seeing the talking heads connection. Are you a big heads fan? If so, I'm curious why you think it's alike. Lyrics aren't similar, lyrical pattern isn't similar, rhythm isn't similar, musical progression is slightly similar.

i still don't see it. Radiohead isn't a thing like Talking Heads, not a thing.

But just my take on it. I'm a much bigger TH fan than Radiohead, and have all of their albums...been a fan of theirs for years and years.

But anyway, back to topic - the 2nd disc is pretty good....it is still definitely '2nd disc' material. I'm so glad they didnt try to make In Rainbows a straight up double album.

listen to crosseyed and painless (but don't watch the video)

^ i think the idea behind the second disc is that it serves the same purpose as the other EPs (drill, how am i drving, com lag, etc), just without the release of singles to which these songs would be b-sides

after a good number of listens... 4 minute warning, up on the ladder, bangers & mash and ditnu are pretty amazing. last flowers and go slowly are beautiful but just sloppy and flawed which i'm not used to with radiohead.

the whole 'do it yourself' cd thing seemed a bit odd and just a neat gimmick, until the environmentally-friendly aspect was mentioned.

I finally got to listen to the second disc and I was very impressed on my first listen. It would have been great if they would have put a little more time into it but considering the group of songs are kinda seen as throwaways I'm glad that we got decent versions of them at all. 4 Minute Warning and Down Is The New Up (love the strings on this one) are my favs.

Also:
Quote :
"A special performance by Radiohead will be aired exclusively in the USA by Current TV on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. The band will be performing all of the tracks from its newest album, In Rainbows.

The broadcast is a taped, private, hour-long performance, which will run commercial-free on Current TV and on http://www.current.com simultaneously. Radiohead previously mentioned another webcast after their recent ‘Thumb’s Down’ webcast. Ed O’Brien said that they will be doing some more cover songs. One of them is most likely a track by Siouxsie and the Banshees. In the past week several webcast pictures were already posted over at Dead Air Space. “We are pleased to partner with Current for its innovative spirit” said Phil Costello, head of TBD Records, Radiohead’s US record label.

Broadcast times:
Current TV* (see below for distribution channels):
* December 31, 2007:
o 9 p.m. PST / 12 a.m. EST
o 10 p.m. PST / 1 a.m. EST
* January 1, 2008:
o 5 a.m. PST / 8 a.m. EST
o 6 p.m. PST / 9 p.m. EST"

I just set my DVR for the midnight showing! Thank goodness TWC gets Current.

I'm watching the concert right now. Who wouldn't want to play on all their equipment in that studio? I do wish they would have done the full out rock version of Videotape though. Phil didn't have anything to do.

That is by far one of the most vague posts I have ever read.

The actual quote "In the US ‘In Rainbows’ debuts prematurely due to street date violations at No. 157, with 9,000 copies sold, according to Billboard, which was released a day later (January 1)."

Quote :
"Radiohead: 'In Rainbows’ is our classic album'

Thom Yorke compares new album to Beatles and Bowie

Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has explained that the band believe new LP ’In Rainbows’ is their classic album.

The singer explained the band deliberately aimed to make the record around 45 minutes long, reflecting the length of some legendary LPs.

“I believe in the rock album as an artistic form of expression,” Yorke told The Independent. “’In Rainbows’ is a conscious return to this form of 45-minute statement.

“Of course it was possible to make it shorter, but our aim was to describe in 45 minutes, as coherently and conclusively as possible, what moves us.”

He explained that in doing this Radiohead set themselves some very high targets to live up to.

“’In Rainbows’ is, at least in our opinion, our classic album," he declared. “Our (Lou Reed’s) ’Transformer’, our “The Beatles’) ’Revolver’, our (David Bowie’s) ’Hunky Dory’.”

it's hard for me not to fall back on "The Bends" which was such a crucial album in its time

It's weird that he says that, because if anything is there "Revolver" or "Hunky Dory" or "Transformer" it is OK Computer in a lot of different senses, regardless of what their 'best' album is.
