if we get those 2 though that is an INSANE start to our class with 10 commitments. IF we win 6 games or so and go to a bowl game i could easily see a top 20, top 15 recruiting class. Guys like Marcus Udell and Dwayne Allen wanna see a winner before they go here.

While true, being the best football program in NC isn't saying much on a regional and obviously national scale, and we aren't there yet either until we beat UNC 2 out of 3

nah. I've been to VT, WFU, BC, and CU. I've wanted to go to UNC to see just how pathetic it is. I've been in that stadium a couple of times though, and yeah the seats and concourses really do suck there. Of course an empty Kenan on a weekday probably isn't much different than Kenan on gameday. :beatup Plus there is no parking around the stadium. There's one small parking lot to one corner near the bell tower, then there's a road on one side that has parking on only one side of the road. You'd think they'd try to maximize parking by putting parking on both sides of the road like we do on Cates and other roads around campus. VT's public lots are pretty big and they charge $5 to park (which isn't bad) and it is paved, but the public lot is all the way across campus from the stadium. So while it's great to take a walk through the campus, it's a fucking long ass walk. While the tailgating at VT and CU was pretty great in terms of number of people actually tailgating, the lots are all spread out. I like how our lots are huge and all in one little area. It's great to just look straight down an aisle of the Fairgrounds lot and see all the number of students tailgating. It makes me almost feel pity for UNC and VT underclassmen that just get drunk in the dorms, then stumble to the stadium. I know b/c I walked through one of VT's dorms and they were all just in there not really doing anything. I definitely want to hit up FSU though. Kind of makes me sad that I didn't try to go last time, since we won and all.
7/15/2007 9:35:33 PM
yeah i'm trying to make it up to the FSU game this year too but i know i am going to the BC game this year. I went there 2 years ago (the one where they said they watered down the field) and it was the coldest fucking day of my life, and nobody wears anything to do with BC and they all got on Patriots and Red Sox clothes and hats on
7/15/2007 10:35:16 PM
Well that's not completely true. The students were pretty good at all wearing their gold "Superfan" t-shirts with the eagle on it. It wasn't that cold. It was 38 degrees that night. We've gotten way worse down here in NC during our winters. The bratwurst I had at a stand in the stadium, during halftime were awesome, despite being typically overpriced like most concession food. I hated how BC's band though played that stupid cadence all the damn time, even after the opposing team broke the huddle. They just kept playing. There's a rule in college football that the band has to stop playing once either team broke the huddle. The stupid cadence has this simplistic one to two note part for the trumpets. It is so fucking annoying.
7/15/2007 10:55:27 PM
UNC football games are pretty fun at their stadium. Yeah no tailgating, but their fans are giant pussies. Last year there was a group of about 50 of us in the endzone seats talking shit to the rest of the UNC fans. They call us names about ag farming and made fun of camo, we called them every name possible about homosexuality and made fun of their golf hats. By the way, not one of them had a goof reason as to why almost every male student was wearing a golf hat to a football game. By golf hat I just mean a baseball cap that says Titleist or U.S. Open.

tryin to see what part of a unc football game is fun...

^^your crazy i thought it would have had to been colder than that. Maybe its b/c i hate cold weather. We sat right beside that Doug Flutie jersey thing in the wolfpack section
7/16/2007 9:20:58 AM
I kills me how apathetic they are. Every year I've been to Franklin St (2) we have gotten a Wolfpack chant going on the p2p bus. With this being said, I'm going to need you all to provide me with some real info soon. I get excited every time this thread moves to the top.
7/16/2007 9:27:04 AM
its quiet right now but they predicted a huge week coming up soon. Manning and WHitley MAY announce on the same day a week from today though.Nick Becton picked up some new offers from Alabama and VT so i looks like his recruitment is going to drag out a lot instead of him deciding in the summer.Dwayne Allen said in an article recently that he's not commited to Georgia. THat may sound like good news which it is but it seems like UNC is a player in his recruitment as well. He said UNC was recruting him the hardest but maybe CJ and TM can pull him away from the dark side.Hopefully things will pick up soon so recruiting can "entertain" us some this week
7/16/2007 9:56:23 AM
Whats up the Georgia? They have had a few de-commits. I think Allen is kind of a long shot since we already got a verbal from Carter. Hopefully i'm wrong though. ]

Missouri was a pretty big shock to me in the Big 12. Apparently I've been living under the ACC rock.
7/17/2007 9:02:56 AM
Yeah that's BS no NC State players are predicted ALL-ACC, but as far as the ranking prediction, I say GOOD! Let them have low expectations, I mean we do have a lot of question marks right now, coming off of a 3 win season, and we have a new coach and system. Screw the preseason predictions, they're worthless, and that just means that when we exceed those expectations, they'll be suckin' off TOB and NC State.
7/17/2007 9:05:46 AM
^ Forgot about Blackman?
7/17/2007 9:18:58 AM
Pressley is the only guy who should have been on the list from our team. I like Brown and Baker as much as the next fan, but it's hard to argue with Choice and Ore
7/17/2007 9:28:28 AM
Is it likely Barnes will redshirt? I want to see Jamelle Eugene get a chance to carry the ball at some point in his career. Dude looked nasty in the spring game. Providing he gets his fumbling issues straight.
7/17/2007 9:39:26 AM
Wasn't Blackman All-ACC last year as a kick returner? Also I imagine we will always have at least 2 backs getting carries with O'Brien/Bible. Barnes redshirting will probably have more to do with what Baker and Brown do than Eugene.[Edited on July 17, 2007 at 9:44 AM. Reason : .]
7/17/2007 9:39:52 AM
Barnes will not be a 25 carry per game back. So whatever other RB's we have on the roster will still get plenty of carries. Look at the way USC used Reggie Bush......that is Brandon Barnes. 15 carries a game, punt returns, 5+ catches a game, etc.
7/17/2007 2:01:23 PM
Curtis Underwood has the coaches excited. He will redshirt this year and could be the everydown back to pair with Barnes.
7/17/2007 2:03:24 PM
^agreed, unless we add a RB like Ryan Williams this year. Underwood is already 6'0 215-220....good size to play everydown and be the powerback, ala lendale white.
7/17/2007 2:04:30 PM
anyone with rivals know what the ryan williams article is about?
7/17/2007 2:16:24 PM
^nothing at all...........basically says he is wide open and is going to decide after his season
7/17/2007 3:40:55 PM
Are we recruiting Barnes as a RB? For some reason I want to say we wanted him as a defensive back or slot-type guy?
7/17/2007 5:18:05 PM
I thought he said we had told him we wanted him at RB and he even claimed if one of our backs goes this year we could see him in the backfield as early as next year.I feel like next year he'll start as a KR and play some out of the backfield and out of the slot. I don't imagine we'll redshirt him.
7/17/2007 5:20:13 PM
^ I disagree with you on the redshirt. We're likely to have at least 3 quality running backs coming back next year, one or all of whom are capable of carrying out of the backfield and returning a kick-off or two. Not to mention guys like Levin Neal, Lamarcus Bond, and other speedy cb's/wr's who are more than capable of returning kicks. Remember, Barnes isn't known for his breakaway speed, and this is pretty important to be a good return man. This would leave bringing him in for short passes out into the flat, and I wouldn't think the negligible gains of such plays would be a good enough reason to burn a year of eligibility.
7/17/2007 5:43:37 PM
I had read too that Barnes was projected at playing at receiver and perhaps DB, but apparently our pitch to him that locked him up for us was the promise of using him as a RB/multipurpose athlete. So yeah, like the others have said, Barnes may be used in a Reggie Bush type manner. Hopefully Barnes bulks up a bit...anyone know what his 40 time is?
7/17/2007 5:45:07 PM
He was recruited as an all-purpose back. He idolizes two of the best all-purpose backs ever with his biggest idol being Reggie Bush and his next biggest being LaDanian Tomlinson (maybe Rivers can introduce Brandon to him). Hopefully he can accomplish what Bush did at USC here at State. I expect to see him get some playing time as a KR in his first year, if he doesn't redshirt. Once Toney and Andre have moved on to the NFL, it will mainly be Curtis Underwood, Brandon Barnes, and Jamelle Eugene (well for one year since he redshirted) becoming the main ball carriers. I imagine we will be really impressed by what Jamelle can do in his senior year. By then he'll have some great coaching that will correct his ball security problems. I say give him "The Program" treatment; I could see TOB saying this to one of the RBs:
7/17/2007 6:10:03 PM
I just can't imagine a 5-Star ATH that's being compared to Reggie Bush is going to be red-shirted. I'm sure he was told that he'd see immediate playing time with us.I mean I'd love to see him red-shirt, but I just see a changing of the guard after this year unless we come out and shock a lot of people. I'd love to see Glennon and Barnes red-shirt, but I have a feeling we're likely to see both on the field next year.I wish they'd red shirt Jay Smith this year so he'd have potentially 4 years with the new guys coming in next year.
7/17/2007 6:58:55 PM
^ yeah, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Glennon start as a true freshman.one of our other qbs may be better, but I could see TOB trying to build for the future and get Glennon experience now.[Edited on July 17, 2007 at 7:04 PM. Reason : .]
7/17/2007 7:04:21 PM
Well freshmen in football don't usually have the impact that they can have in basketball. Besides a lot of the most successful programs convince their 4 and 5 star athletes to redshirt (also they are usually behind other 4 and 5 star players that have experience on their side). In our case, unless Barnes is going to play significant time as a kick returner in his freshman year, then it'd be best for him to redshirt. We have one of the best two headed running back attack in the nation, and they are only juniors. There are pluses to him getting some time at KR. He'll get some early in-game experience at the college level, which is very valuable.
7/17/2007 7:07:04 PM
Looking at those predictions and seeing us and Clemson at the bottom shows how even the Atlantic could be. Any of the 6 teams could come up and win the division like Wake did.[Edited on July 18, 2007 at 1:00 AM. Reason : Ant Hill is the best TE in the ACC]
7/18/2007 12:59:36 AM
^^ "Besides a lot of the most successful programs convince their 4 and 5 star athletes to redshirt" ....... I think this will change. Look at Urban Meyer's pitch to recruits at Florida. His thought is that the best players will exit early to the NFL, so why not get them into the mix right away. He promises PT right away and delivered last year with some true FR contributors to their National Championship. Several of his recruits in '07 #1 Class claimed they chose the Gators because they could play right away. I think with a superstar like Barnes, you let them play early and often.
