I just got back from Buxton doing some surf fishing. I caught my first old drum right near the lighthouse. It was a monster at 32" I know there a bunch bigger than that but it was the biggest drum I've ever caught. The blues are still biting and saw a couple nice speckled trout being caught.
11/14/2007 4:57:25 PM
i just cant do surf fishing.i love to fish.but i just have never caught anything from the surf. well i hooked a fish on his fin once. thats about it.i need a boat, or a pier, or a dock.
11/14/2007 5:01:40 PM
hey restricted, lets go whack some tuna!
11/14/2007 6:23:11 PM
Headin down to Beaufort this weekend...the weather is supposed to be kinda crappy I think, but is there anything biting?
11/26/2007 11:08:29 AM
red fish and trout should be pretty goodmight snag some flounder offshore BIG kings are biting now, and the bluefin tuna have made their way to the beachI'll be down in AB this weekend, more for drinking and partying, not fishing thoughthey've been killing the huge kings at hatteras over the last weekhttp://www.hatterasguide.com/odens-dock/odensdock.htmhttp://www.hatterasharbor.com/reports.php[Edited on November 26, 2007 at 1:44 PM. The Tuna bite has been decent, if you can get out of the inlet. We have aborted the last 3 trips due to weather concerns.
11/26/2007 2:25:24 PM
I can imagineI wouldn't mind just getting out and doing some bottom fishing and partying one day
11/26/2007 2:38:35 PM
1 lil bluefish, and 1 bushels of some awesome oysters over the weekend. The oysters were far easier to catch than the bluefish. I swear the only way to eat oysters is to pull them out of the water and cook them in the same afternoon.
11/26/2007 2:43:08 PM
anybody fishing inshore at MHC or AB this weekend?
11/27/2007 4:27:19 PM

Went on a Charter yesterday....My roommates family goes Tuna fishing every fall/winter. We only caught one Yellowfin but we had our limit of Bluefins. Kept two and released a whole bunch...made some great sushi this afternoon.[Edited on December 8, 2007 at 1:56 PM. Reason : ftfh]
12/8/2007 1:53:44 PM
Caught three YFT's yesterday on an impromptu trip with some old salts that I hadn't fished with in a couple of years. Fun day but we had to work to get'em.
12/11/2007 6:53:43 PM
coolsounds tasty looks like we're headed out this weekendsome marks have been producing some monster kings over the last couple weeks so we're gonna hit em up
12/11/2007 6:57:00 PM
Weather might be interesting this weekend. Could be a full blown nor'easter coming
12/11/2007 7:03:29 PM
yeah, thats what I was readingwe've got our new boat figured out and our new sponsor package for next year though... which is pretty cool
12/11/2007 7:05:13 PM
apparently 105in bluefin caught, have yet to see anything official other than hearsay
12/11/2007 7:39:44 PM
hadn't checked the bluefin reports yeah, looks like we may be rough this weekend
12/11/2007 10:25:28 PM
so my 11 at bond park were the only ones i caught this year
12/11/2007 10:27:51 PM
I caught 0 freshwater fish this year well, I cast netted a bunch of bream in my creek for catfishing, but threw them back in cause I didn't go
12/11/2007 10:28:44 PM
that new rule that started jan 2007 really fucked me over
12/11/2007 10:29:35 PM
I can only think of one decent fish I've caught this year. It was a ~8-10 lb blue catfish that I caught on a Rat-L-Trap clone a month and a half ago. My fishing has sucked!
12/11/2007 10:30:19 PM
what rule?
12/11/2007 10:30:29 PM
remember the rule about fishing with live bait in the county you reside in and not having to have a fishing license?
12/11/2007 10:32:03 PM
thats been a rule forever[Edited on December 11, 2007 at 10:32 PM. Reason : more like... suggestion ]
12/11/2007 10:32:29 PM
yeah they changed that bomb ass rule jan 07....thats why i wanted to go to silchairsms pond so bad...wouldnt have had to get a license
12/11/2007 10:33:58 PM
not illegal til you get caught
12/11/2007 10:34:38 PM
lol i def. dont have the guts to go fishing by myself on that golf course....bond park was my only easily accessable pond and not had to worry about people really coming
12/11/2007 10:35:43 PM
live bait should be fine though...it's artificials that are the issue iirchell I dunnothey added that saltwater license this year too
12/11/2007 10:37:30 PM
heres a nice one that's never happened to me before now...just a week ago, i try to fish in the fishing ponds we have around where i work, which from what ive heard arent worth fishing unless freshly stocked.so i throw on a rapala, and catch more leaves with each cast. then, i miss a big fish right off the bank. rips the rapala off. i think to myself "shit, i miss the only fish out here, and it takes my shit!"so after a few feeble attempts to get the same fish with another lure, i take to a new spot. theres a lone stump sticking out that is just at the extent of how far i can cast. about 30 min after aforementioned experience, i get another hit. finally, a nice bass is jumping out of the water. i get it all the way in, and to my surprise, theres my lost rapala!bonus when you catch a decent 3 lb bass and it returns what it took from you.
12/11/2007 10:40:37 PM
damn if that happened to me i would tell every fisherman i met that story...maybe even multiple times
12/11/2007 10:42:01 PM
haha yeah thats badassyou know what sucks...fishing a tournament, reeling a nice king in... only to have a damn barracuda come and slash it in half as you get it to the boat
12/11/2007 10:43:26 PM
that bass must have been blond. ^haha. I've had that shit happen a lot with cuda and sharks. And it's even worse when you see them coming in for the kill and there isn't shit you can do about it. [Edited on December 11, 2007 at 10:45 PM. Reason : ]
12/11/2007 10:43:27 PM
Word. I've had king middle sections come in....no head and no tail.I also caught a big cuda on a small bailer dolphin one time by accident...haha.I've had a bass do that only once in my life....and it was on a lizard. Damn fish broke me off and I retied and fishing down the river a little bit and then BAM...caught him...and damn if my lizard and hook wasn't still in his mouth.Silly fishes.
12/12/2007 12:06:47 PM
catching half-kings happens all too often to us on the pier. a guy i was fishing with this summer caught one that came in missing about 1/3 (from the tail) and still weighed over 20 lbs
12/12/2007 12:10:51 PM
Oh. In other news, on Monday I had almost lost the gaff twice. The first time, I went to gaff a tuna and right before I stick it I just here a snap...so I'm like of shit the crimp failed or the line snapped...well the angler is like 'damn it' but I'm got the fish so I'm like its ok....I look over and the rod is in pieces.... it just shattered! This was a double header so my old man is fighting the other fish and its coming up and everyone is like gaff it, come on...but I'm like it looks a little green but I'm like fuck it...I sink the gaff and that fish wasn't happy because it took off away from the boat when I hit it and I just did like a lacrosse throw over my head in an attempt to get it in the boat. It was a sight to see a YFT 4 feet over my head on a gaff
12/12/2007 3:09:59 PM
hahaha damnwe lost a brand new cast net the other day on our first throwwe were under the AB bridge catching blues to troll with and one of our guys threw it and it got snagged on the piling... and GONE$200... in the drink on the first throw[Edited on December 14, 2007 at 4:43 PM. Reason : n]

Wednesday I am going to take my uncle and dad out. Depending on weather it will be inshore or the Kawiah near shore reef. Neither one wants to run out to the shelf. Pussies... I hope it is nice out, the trout have been going crazy lately. I would like to hook one of them up on a big red.
12/24/2007 11:18:24 AM

12/24/2007 11:38:14 AM
That was my last offshore trip of the season. We got skunked again, but worked some really pretty water. Did manage a monster little tunny . Now its time to get the reels serviced, tackle repaired, rigs made and update the electronics on the boats. Call me in March when there is warm weather, and big mahis. Unless there is a really hot tuna bite.
