Man, it looks like Tekken DR got delayed AGAIN. That's the one thing that is getting me is the delays on games like this. its been out in Japan for months and its really the exact same game, so I don't know why they keep delaying it.

I think that's all the news I have right now.

^Yeah I am pretty disappointed about that too since I was looking forward to it being released. The only place that has been posted so far is IGN though, so it could still show up although it is unlikely. So far they have made a pattern of updating the store about 4-5 EST so I guess we will know for sure soon.

The hype has already started building for the PS3 news that will be released at the Game Developers Conference next week. I am certainly interested to hear what they will be announcing.

Gundam Musou PS3 Interview
Quote :
"Gundam games are extremely popular in Japan, but this one is special; it matches the Dynasty Warriors gameplay (which is also quite popular there) with the Gundam universe. It's guaranteed to sell a lot of units (Namco Bandai states it expects to sell over a million copies of the game), and certainly push hardware sales for Sony."

TEHSCLUSIVE: An interview with the F-ING MAN himself, David Jaffe!
Quote :
"What I think is revolutionary about downloadable games is that from a design standpoint, we’re able to make the game as it needs to be rather than make filler bulletpoints for the back of the retail box.

Pretty much everything is destructible. Obviously there are strategic targets that you don’t want to destroy because we want players to have more than just a big hulking field they’re driving around. But I’d say anywhere from 60 to 90% of the level is destructible."

I am so pumped about Calling All Cars coming out. In my opinion God of War and Twisted Metal: Black were two of the best PS2 games ever so I have a lot of faith in his ability to make a mesmerizing gameplay experience. I am looking forward to having a game that will not only be multiplayer online but will be up to four players offline since there are not a lot of LAN games out right now for the PS3.

Actually, looks like Tekken DR is coming out today after all.

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6166600.html?action=convert&om_clk=latestnews&tag=latestnews;title;1

Calling All Cars really does look like its going to be a lot of fun. Its definitely looking pretty original and I think it will be a refreshing game to come out on this generation. I love a fun online experience, and this one should be pretty good.

^ awesome! Between Tekken 5 DR, Virtua Fighter 5, and Mortal Combat 2 that should be enough fighting action for everyone for awhile. http://www.gamevideos.com/video/id/8248 There are some good Tekken DR videos on that site I have been watching today.

Exclusive Interview - Phil Harrison on Backwards Compatibility

"“The situation is changing every day, but on March 23, we expect the list to include over 1,000 PS2 titles.”"

As with a lot of the PS3 negative publicity in the US right now things are getting blown out of proportion. It will not be nearly as bad as people think. The change to software emulation looks even better when you consider the rumor that was recently posted:

http://www.rumorreporter.com/?p=202
Rumor: Sony To Release PS3 Emulator/Firmware For ‘Software Playback’; PS3’s Built-In HD Scaler To Eventually Upscale Existing PS2/PSOne Games To 1080i/720p

People have been talking about this on the forums for some time including the possibility that the PS3 development kit already supports some of this functionality. I expect that Phil Harrison will address this in his talk at the GDC next week. Should be interesting.

First MLB 07 the Show PS3 Screenshots. Doesnt look as good as MLB 2K7, but the gameplay is typically better, and if you stand back a few feet, it looks good.

http://spong.com/feature/10109526
Interviews// Phil Harrison: President, Sony Worldwide Studios
Quote :
"When pressed for more information about which PS2 games will be playable on the PS3 at launch, Harrison is cagey but, unsurprisingly, maintains that Sony is concentrating on the big guns: “We can’t give any information about individual titles, but clearly, that would be our policy.”

So, let’s give Harrison the last word: “It’s important to put it into context – there will still be thousands of titles for the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 playable on the PS3 at launch. It’s very easy to over-react.”"

Also there is apparently some interesting information in the latest Develop magazine:
Quote :
"“Sony need not worry about any potential battles it may face with the PS3… the format holder is assured a top-of-the-pile placing in the global games market thanks to the company’s investment in internal development.”

Based on data from Screen Digest, the report places Sony as the third most resourced games software publisher in the world, stating that “Sony Computer Entertainment Studios employs some 2,200 developers across 14 different studios… it has more programmers, artists, audio technicians and designers than Microsoft and Nintendo combined.”

Ubisoft, with a ‘technical workforce’ of 2,400 sits in second place, while Electronic Arts with 5,500 comes in first.

Develop Also quotes the Screen Digest report author, Ed Barton, as saying, "When we were looking at how nex-gen publishing was shaping up, we were surprised to see that in comparison to what was going on during the end of the PSOne era, Sony has doubled its investment in worldwide studios.

"Sony has ensured that it can create the momentum PS3 needs"."

Rumble coming back?
Quote :
"Sony Computer Entertainment said it and Immersion Corp. (IMMR.O: Quote, Profile, Research) agreed to end a patent litigation and entered into an agreement to explore the inclusion of Immersion's technology in Sony's PlayStation format products.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the federal circuit ordered for Immersion, a video gaming technology company, to receive damages, pre-judgment interest, costs, and interest, the game unit of Sony Corp. (6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research) said in a statement."

http://kotaku.com/gaming/sony/rumor-sony-to-unveil-playstation-home-240746.php
Rumor: Sony To Unveil PlayStation Home
Quote :
"Basically, you get to make an avatar for your console (like a Mii) and this avatar has a room. As you play games and accomplish certain tasks, you will receive items with which to adorn the room that are specific to the game (achievements). The kicker is that this is going to be a new requirement for every PS3 game..."

which then leads to:

http://kotaku.com/gaming/top/sony-blackballs-kotaku-240860.php
Sony Blackballs Kotaku

This certainly could be the big news that Sony was planning on dropping at the GDC. It is hard to interpret whether Sony didn't want to run this story because it was not true or because it was and they didn't want it leaked. It would certainly be nice if it is true because the Mii (Wii) / Achievement (360) systems have been a major part of the online capability of the other systems that people have been attacking Sony about.

March certainly seems to be ready to live up to the month of PS3 that PS3 owners had been hoping for.

Until they can match the quality and quantity that Nintendo has as a developer, you cannot compare them. My guess is that EA is number 1, and I haven't given a shit about anything they have developed in years . . . come to think of it, I don't know if I ever have.

So its Mii + M$ Achievements + Pokemon Gold/Silver? The good old Sony cloning strategy. Who saw this coming? Three birds with one stone.

That being said, I completely side with Sony (and I have a strong detestment for them). There is a certain level of trust between developers and writers. If you are exposed to privilaged information, sometimes they will expect you to sit on it for a while. The developers want to make a big announcement . . THEIR announcement. Kotaku wanted to steal the spot light and now they pay.

Really, its almost like that guy who exposed the Dreamcast. Sega made the people sign all sorts of confidentiality agreements yet this guy still wrote an article about it. His excuse? He was low on material and "forgot" about all those papers he signed. Bullshit.

^ You are right about #1 being EA Games. I found the graph for that.

http://www.gamasutra.com/newspics/screen%20digest_graph_1_big.jpg

There is a "leaked" outline for Phil Harrison's GDC Keynote that everyone is talking about right now. There is absolutely no credibility to it at this point though since it is a random forum user so I am not going to post it but if it turns out to be true then March is going to be a great month.

Possibly more evidence this update coming is true. This is a recent trademark filed by Sony:

"freakyguy666: Has anyone else heard the rumors of a major Sony Online upgrade? Apparently the update will make the Xbox LIVE interface look antiquated in comparison. Apparently the interface is set up like a Virtual Town where each user has their own virtual apartment. Within your apartment you store your collection of acheivements and virtual trophies to show off to any "visitors" (i.e. people on your Friends list). Your friends could visit you if you are "home" (i.e. online)and once inside they could "walk around" your apartment and view how you've decorated your place. But more importantly, they could listen to any music or watch videos that you've got in your place (i.e. content you've stored on your PS3). Furthermore, your friends could join you for a game of cards or other simple games while listening to your music or even running a movie on your virtual TV (again using data on your PS3 HD). Once outside of your apartment you could visit the virtual Movie Theater to download--what else?--video content, visit the virtual Arcade, and other more exciting areas that I'm not at liberty to discuss yet...

The bottomline is that the interface is going to get a major overhaul and it's supposed to be very slick and user friendly. It will make apparent the advantages of the PS3 hardware and--dare I say--the new Sony Online Network.

If this has already been posted I apologise in advance! Otherwise, you heard it here....FIRST!"

This was posted back in early February. The guy was mocked and everyone claimed there was no way it could be true.

As a point of comparison, Sony Online Entertainment’s Station Exchange was mentioned. Such a feature (and it would actually be quite an imposing feature to implement) was not currently on SCEI’s radar, but it appears that further discussion on possible implementations will occur. Two unannounced titles were mentioned that are expected to require such a system. An unconfirmed rumor has it that Phil Harrison’s keynote next Thursday will announce and discuss one of these titles."

I found this really interesting. Besides the quote I added they also talk about a global EULA and accessing parts of PSN from within games.

I'm definitely geeked about the keynote today. The NYT backed up the PlayStation Home rumors first reported on Kotaku (and the hilarity that ensued) saying it will be implemented in the fall, so that may take a little edge off the keynote.

Looking forward to Motorstorm - think I'll use some of my BB Reward Zone certificates to pick it up for free.99

Phil Harrison just killed it at GDC, with some awesome announcements.

Home and LittleBigPlanet or whatever it's called both look awesome.

details:

video clip of Playstation Home:

So here's basically what happened at GDC:

Here's the official trailer for PS3 Home:
http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=17548&type=wmv

Little Big World:
http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=17548&type=wmv&pl=game

Phil and some other were playing this game, I think the same level during the keynote. Looks really interesting. The basis of it is that its a game where the user creates his own content/game, etc. Seems pretty cool.

Also go and take a look at the preview of Warhawk over on IGN. This pretty much spells it all out here:
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/770/770561p1.html

The game is now multiplayer only, but it looks pretty interesting. Kindof like a Warhawk style of Battlefield.

Man get a life freaking Capn. I mean its all well and good that you despise an electronics company (?) but as far as I'm concerned, just about everything is influenced from something. Sometimes those things become better and can influence future products themselves. That's what its all about.

If its not as good or better than where its influence came from, then maybe it will fail and you can be happy, Capn. Or maybe you can just enjoy whatever console (or whatever) you prefer and quit being such a whiney bitch.

Don't really recall whining. Simply fixed a quote.

The reason I hate Sony is that they are so detached from the world it isn't funny. They are still trying to bank off of their early success, opting for complicated design that has enormous potential but ghastly over head, especially for developers. Their commercials are a disaster, their launch was a disaster, but they don't seem to care. They haven't developed an original idea . . . perhaps ever.

Nintendo gets hell for opting to be secretive and not advertising everything that they are currently working on. Seeing how so many companies tend to copy good ideas (not just Sony), its not hard to see why. Therefore, I will give those xerox companies hell for acting like that. And don't go for a euphemism and call it "influence". Influence infers time. How long did it take for Sony to copy the Wiimote idea? Miis became popular then Sony opted to gank that also.

And really, if you are going to make such an ignorant quote as "and home destroys nintendo's mii concept", you should be prepared for people call you on it. It was a retarded fanboy jab. We all get it. And really, your quote is incorrect. A "concept" is the base of an idea. These "concepts" are the same. Sony stole that, no sugar coating required. The "implementation" is different and really nothing alike. So, you look even more foolish if you were trying to compare the two implementations because there is no point.

Really, I want the PS3 to be their wake up call. Their gravy train has ended, and they can't just depend on their past success and other people's ideas to keep them alive. Time to contribute something.

yeah - the PSP is such a huge failure...they sell about 100k units a week in japan, and Monster Hunter 2 sold over 700k units in the first week of release

seriously, if you're going to view success solely on what happens in America, you need to get a fucking clue

and if you want, go check patents on motion technology from Sony and Nintendo - Sony filed theirs before Nintendo did

Sony was toying with the idea of implementing the motion sensor in the PSP (one of the launch games, Mercury, was designed around this premise). Motion sensitivity was removed before the PSP went into production (and the controls for Mercury were revised).

I don't need to tell you this, but the PSP came out before the announcement for Wii was even made.

As far as Home goes, I don't think you can even compare it to Nintendo's Mii. There is no "online community" on Nintendo's system, unless you count sharing characters. That is the extent of what can be done with the Wii.

So basically what you're claiming is that Sony stole Nintendo's idea of a digital representation of yourself. Which Nintendo did not come up with themselves, so....

and finally, I love my PSP. Threw a custom firmware on there, I can play whatever I want whenever I want. It's great, and pretty soon it'll also play nice w/my PS3.

Man this is getting silly. Just because the DS is selling more doesn't mean that the PSP is not going over well. I really don't see the obsession with one system doing better than the other. I hope they all do well, competition is great for everyone.

Anyway enough of all this petty shit. Motorstorm is freaking INCREDIBLE! I have not had this much fun with a video game in a long, long time. Single player has some great AI and all that, but multiplayer is just flat out sweet. nothing like driving around and seeing someone just explode right in front of you as you drive around their carriage and parts. Just amazing gameplay. I hope you guys all picked it up.

I'll be picking it up later today, I've been psyched about it for a while now.

I'm also getting NBA Street Homecourt, good multiplayer game.

I'm extremely dissapointed that they didn't include split screen multiplayer with Motorstorm. What were they thinking? Really dumb move in my book, but I'll be picking it up anyway.

I'm picking it up this weekend - looking forward to some fun!

what do you want? should i go buy a console that has a retarded failure rate and less features? or how about one that has one decent game - in amazing 420p? or i can get a handheld that WON'T play movies, music, surf the net, emulate games on just about every console up to and including PSOne?

Jesus, people have different wants and needs. Me? I am more than willing to spend extra money to get a system, console or hand-held, that has tremendous upside beyond just games. Ergo, a Wii or DS isn't going to cut it for me. And I'm sure as shit not going to spend $400 on a console that seems to fail at alarming rates

^^ They were saying that it would be too hard to process all that data twice (two screens) but I think they defintely could have come up with a way to accomplish this. it is dissapointing but who knows, maybe they will patch it.

Luckily the online multiplayer is freaking amazing though. I think there are a few things that were rushed or not done that well in this game, but most importantly the game play is amazing. Anyone that has a PS3 needs to purchase this game.

So in other news, I'm hoping some of the stuff that got rumored to be added to the PSN will get added today (MKII baby!), but haven't really heard anything. Honestly if nothing comes out I've got plenty already to waste time on.
