What is this trade in deal that EB is doing?[Edited on September 16, 2006 at 3:19 PM. Reason : ]

Assuming you need to put at least 50 bucks downand they won't be accepting cash...so you need to do trade in
9/16/2006 3:57:50 PM
while im sure wii will do fine, the whole "ps3 wont be there so parents will buy a wii instead" seems flawed.they are NOT substitutes and uneducated buyers might think twice before trying to substitute a 250 dollar "inferior" machine with a pricey gadget their kid wants (assuming they can afford both).

i dont think paying 15 bucks for 10 old games is assuming THAT much risk, considering they only have to sell about 2-3 to make their money back. they've already got a large inventory system so it isnt like they have to do THAT much extra to get the used games to sell.
9/16/2006 7:15:25 PM
i dont think HaLo knows that the amount they pay for used games is calculated based on how much they will resell the game for, and how well it will sell.its not like the dole out the same constant amount, they use a fucking algorithm from their corperate HQ.
9/16/2006 7:21:07 PM
does anyone have proof of the trade in for wii preorder thing?
9/16/2006 7:21:45 PM
unless you are selling sports games, then they just laugh at you and point to the "give a penny, take a penny."
9/16/2006 7:22:03 PM
well no shit sherlock of course they use an algorithm, and obviously that algorithm is why you're getting assraped on games, they have to take into account that they will recieve potentially no return from each purchase
9/16/2006 7:22:27 PM
9/16/2006 7:25:26 PM
i bet some of their better business is the 5-10 they make on reselling games that are returned within a week of purchase.
9/16/2006 7:27:43 PM
you fucking dumbass, you're proving my point yet you don't even know it, after the football game i'll lay it out for you.btw, they need to take into account that potential loss of $17 for every game they buy from the customer. obviously some have lower risk (current games, popular games) but others are high, high risk for them, sports, low interest[Edited on September 16, 2006 at 7:30 PM. 9/16/2006 7:29:06 PM
YOU DONT HAVE A POINT. You dont make any sense. Youre an idiot.
9/16/2006 7:29:56 PM
my point dumbass is that not anyone can mass market resell video games.^which is also why you get "assraped" on others[Edited on September 16, 2006 at 7:33 PM. Reason : .]
9/16/2006 7:32:26 PM
Look I dont think anyone here knows what the fuck youre talking about. The EB/Gamstop policy of buying and selling used games keeps money away from nintendo, which is a bad thing.
9/16/2006 7:35:33 PM
so this is your point, which is also stupid but whatever.
9/16/2006 7:37:33 PM
also stupid? meaning you admit your own point is stupid. i wont disagree there.funny, i didnt find anyone that disagreed with me.anyway....why dont write a thesis on why
9/16/2006 7:42:11 PM
so you're saying that running a large amount of stores is cheap? cause i'm pretty sure utilities, employees, are pretty expensive. i'm done with your bullshit, come back when you aren't stupid.
9/16/2006 7:51:21 PM
9/16/2006 7:56:11 PM
so seriosuly..does anyone have proof of the trade in thing?
9/16/2006 8:10:24 PM
no its a rumor.
9/16/2006 8:10:41 PM
9/16/2006 9:34:27 PM
its still a rumor. nobody has verified anything. photoshopping that would take nothing. but if i had to GUESS i would say its legit.[Edited on September 16, 2006 at 9:39 PM. Reason : 43]
9/16/2006 9:39:03 PM
yeah...no idea if that is real or not...but id guess yes. The one week thing makes sense because of the problem they had with the 360...I mean Id guess they'd do something like this1 Week of "you give us 50 dollars of trade ins we'll definitly get you a Wii"1 Week of "you give us a under 50 dollars of trades in..you'll get a wii..if theres any left"and then just doing wait list
9/16/2006 9:47:26 PM
what sucks is i would have to purchase one of their games and then fucking sell it back to them for less. i dont think i have quite 50 dollars worth.
9/16/2006 9:55:25 PM
I'm trading my PS2, about 20 PS2 Games, and couple DS games
9/16/2006 10:07:40 PM
yea i think they will probably pay about 30cents for a gamecube.
9/16/2006 10:08:59 PM
damn that backwards compatibility!
9/16/2006 10:15:10 PM
9/16/2006 10:17:36 PM
heh, should be interesting. you gotta get 50 bucks in used games. im sure itll be no surprise that trade in values magically dropped in the past week and shall remain so until january.
9/16/2006 10:18:31 PM
wtf...haWaII?
9/16/2006 10:20:13 PM
seems like bullshit
9/16/2006 10:22:52 PM
This goes right along w/ those "bundles" they sold the Xbox 360's with that cost $1,000 or more.Nothing exactly "illegal," but 100% sketch
9/16/2006 10:29:50 PM
9/16/2006 10:30:07 PM
i can only assume that nintendo doesnt know how many units it will ship, so they dont know how many orders to tell EB/gamestop to take.
9/16/2006 10:33:27 PM
which is why the one week thing makes sense
9/16/2006 10:44:47 PM
i dont understand why some people have to have the system the day of launchwhy sell ebgames 50 bucks worth of games and lose 20-30 bucks in this deal just to pre-order a systemim just gonna wait until the system drops to 100 bucks like the gamecube did
9/16/2006 11:17:13 PM
but then you'll have to wait like 2 years
9/16/2006 11:33:23 PM
which really sux if you are into online multiplayer. sure there'll be a few games that have a big following, but then you've got a huge learning curve and it is unlikely many of ur friends are down (or even if they are they might be getting tired of it themselves).
9/16/2006 11:37:14 PM
yeah, that trade-in thing is completely bogus...it might actually be a little while before we take reserves on the system itself
9/16/2006 11:42:07 PM
If you are into online multiplayer then it doesn't matter... no game at launch has online capablities. If I'm not mistaken it will be spring, at the earliest, before even 1 single 3rd party game can even be online.
9/16/2006 11:45:13 PM
you are wrong. first party games WILL be online at the launch.
9/16/2006 11:47:07 PM
9/17/2006 12:56:37 AM
^ all i can say is that http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&q=wii%20online&btnG=Google+Search&sa=N&tab=wnive got 10 sources here that say Wii connect24 will be at launch. i dont see online cant work if they are boasting that you can download the virtual console games.
9/17/2006 1:06:30 AM
Yeah, its a bit confusing, but I can completely see how they could have a Marketplace environment where you can download data and such yet not have any online multiplayer functionality. Its sort of like the difference between a message board and a chat room... both are online but only one has interaction between multiple connections. Think about it... if the 3rd party developers aren't even getting the development packages until "early 2007" then I don't see Nintendo just sitting on them for no reason. THey must just not have the net code honed done just yet.No online for COD, Madden, Red Steel, Tony Hawk, etc... not cool, IMHO. If what I have read is correct and the online multiplayer aspect is significantly delayed then the general public could sour very quickly on the Wii.Apparently Pokemon Battle (the first online multiplayer title) is supposed to be released in the Japan launch window but not launch day... expect a mid to late December or even early '07... So it seems Wii is following every other previous console, except the 360, and releasing online multiplayer capabilities after the initial launch.[Edited on September 17, 2006 at 1:25 AM. Reason : .]
9/17/2006 1:17:09 AM
The Wii24 service will be availiable at launch but there will bo no Online capable multiplayer gmaes till pokemon next year
9/17/2006 1:29:13 AM
nintendo was never a huge fan of MMO type games. but they are pitching the system as the ultimate in connectivity, they've said it will always be in communication with the Wii's of your friends, with content being frequently updated ect ect.
9/17/2006 2:00:06 AM
Well what about online gaming on the virtual console or from the GCN... say like SSBM, it would be super nice if that was available to play online via the Wii at launch.
