If I did more Windows development for work I'd probably try to go, though honestly I'd be most interested in the WP7 development.

yeah, if WP7 is your thing then MiX was the conference you really wanted to be at .I'll be updating this thread next week with TechEd announcements though . And if anyone is there, drop by thne Microsoft Visual Studio Ultimate or Team Foundation Server booths and say Hi!

Well the cat is finally out of the bag, at least a little bit. If anyone was watching Jason Zanders part of the keynote, then you pretty much saw what I've been working on for a year and a half. I actually created the vision and design for most of the ALM story for visual studio vNext . Feels awesome to finally be able to talk about it

I just got through installing .Net Framework 4 on an older laptop. Here's to hoping that for Framework 5 they can come up with an installer that doesn't do the following:1) Copy a file2) Sleep(100000)3) Repeat until doneI downloaded the redistributable and the install still took 40 minutes.
7/1/2011 2:16:53 PM
Its frustrating for sure, but its not just sleep+copy. It's cray cray how much is going on behind the scenes. I install the .NET framework about 4x a week now and it's a lot, lot faster for me (on a P4 desktop no less)

i don't care what the price is, if the tv integration works a fraction as well as they showed I'm buying two
5/21/2013 1:42:47 PM
fuck, google tv has been able to do that tv part foreveri'm interested to see if they just passthrough and overlay from an external tv box, or if it becomes your tv box, and what providers it'll support
5/21/2013 1:57:04 PM
google TV can not do what they just showed
5/21/2013 2:03:05 PM
5/21/2013 2:12:04 PM
which TV parts you talking about?[Edited on May 21, 2013 at 4:20 PM. Reason : those 7 people who bought surfaces are stoked about this]
5/21/2013 4:20:15 PM
what does this have to do with surface?
5/21/2013 4:38:32 PM
smartglass
5/21/2013 5:13:04 PM
Except smartglass is available for Windows 8, Windows Phone 8, Android and iOS.So what does surface have to do with Xbox?
5/21/2013 5:52:01 PM
I'd have assumed that it would have better/more features on its native OS
5/21/2013 6:22:39 PM
^Not much http://www.xbox.com/en-US/smartglass/feature-comparison
5/21/2013 6:47:42 PM
Well the "native OS" isn't limited to surface, its every Windows 8 machine

on a related note, skydrive on Windows 8.1 is perfect, it absolutely blows any other cloud service out of the water.
8/2/2013 7:27:03 AM
^No it isn't. Can't change the folder location, and it still destroyed my machine for ~5 hours after installating 8.1 while it builds its db cache.I do love the file virtualization, and service level integration. But there's still a lot of room for improvement
8/3/2013 3:21:39 AM
You can change the folder location in the RTM build of 8.1, even to an SD card.
8/15/2013 2:16:23 PM
What the FUCK Microsoft? I just got a copy of Office 2013 for my personal machine and they took out the option to install it on anything other than the C drive. I don't have 5GB free (SSD system drive) on my C drive so I can't install Office 2013? Grrr.
8/22/2013 12:45:55 AM
I've really been enjoying Office 365. So far it's met my needs.
8/22/2013 1:11:57 AM
Ok so I tracked down an .MSI install where I was able to customize a secondary drive for installation and it still gives me a "not enough space" error because I have less than the install size on the C drive. This is stupid.

The Poisonous Employee-Ranking System That Helps Explain Microsoft’s Declinehttp://www.slate.com/blogs/future_tense/2013/08/23/stack_ranking_steve_ballmer_s_employee_evaluation_system_and_microsoft_s.html

To be clear, we're defining 'decline' as multi-billion dollar profits and year over year growth.
